Abstract

This study examines the comparative advantages of agricultural products from highland and lowland areas in South Sumatra Province using the Location Quotient (LQ) method. The research aims to identify specific commodities that dominate each region and evaluate their potential for regional economic development. Data were collected from agricultural production reports, regional economic statistics, and field surveys. The LQ analysis reveals the agricultural specialization in both highland and lowland regions. Highland areas primarily focus on plantation crops such as coffee and tea, while lowland areas excel in rice production and horticulture. The results indicate that highland commodities have a high LQ value, reflecting their contribution to the regional economy and export potential. Conversely, lowland commodities showcompetitive advantages in meeting local demand and supporting food security. This comparative analysis highlights the importance of tailoring agricultural policies to the unique characteristics of each region. Strategies such as infrastructure development, market access improvement, and sustainable farming practices can enhance productivity and competitiveness. The findings also emphasize the need for diversification and value-added processing to increase income and reduce economic vulnerability in both highland and lowland areas.

Abstract

The low productivity of tidal rice fields causes the rice fields to always be inundated. One way to increase the productivity and income of rice farmers in tidal land is to implement the rice-fish system. The objectives of this study are: (1) To analyze the income and cost structure of tidal rice farming and rice-fish farming in Dusun III Talang Andong, Banyuasin Regency; (2) To describe the obstacles for tidal rice farmers switching to rice-fish farming in Dusun III Talang Andong, Banyuasin Regency. The location selection was carried out intentionally (purposive). The sampling method was a simple random sampling method for rice farmers and a census method for rice-fish farmers. The cost structure was analyzed using the percentage proportion of each cost component to the total cost. The percentage proportion of fixed costs for rice farming was 30.84% and rice-fish farming was 14.13%. While the percentage proportion of variable costs for rice farming was 69.16% and rice-fish farming was 85.87%. The income of mina padi farming is higher, which is Rp45,733,333/Ha/MT, while the income of rice farming is only Rp6,508,942/Ha/MT. With the obstacles faced by rice farmers to switch to the mina padi system, namely the high cost of building the mina padi system and production costs, in addition, most rice farmers in Dusun III Talang Andong still rent the rice fields they work on and the cost structure of rice farming is still dominated by labor wages and land rent so that there is a lack of allocation for purchasing production inputs.

Abstract

The plan for community silkworm cultivation activities, especially wild silkworms (Attacus atlas) in the East OKU region in partnership with the Central Lembur Cultural Village must be carried out by manipulating the room in terms of shape, walls, and roof so that it can meet the standards for silkworm habitats with a maximum temperature of 28-30 0C. The availability of silkworm feed can be done by utilizing yard land so that land utilization occurs. Farmers should also have skills in weaving so that they can sell finished products in the form of cloth to increase income. This study examines the rules of the game and the method of cocoon production agreed upon and implemented by farmers in the Central Lembur Cultural Village, Sukabumi Regency and calculates the income level of partner silkworm farmers in the Central Lembur Cultural Village. With a qualitative approach, this study discusses the organization, cooperation patterns, project preparation, project mechanisms and cooperation agreements. The results show that a partnership is established that supports and complements each other both in terms of management and technical implementation of silkworm cultivation. The prospect of developing silkworms (Attacus atlas) in Beliatng can be implemented by looking at the potential for existing feed and utilizing the local community's yard land.

Abstract

Land ownership inequality has become a significant issue in Indonesia, particularly in South Sumatra, where large-scale corporations dominate vast agricultural areas while smallholder farmers struggle to secure their land rights. This study examines the marginalization of farmers within the framework of sociological theories, including structural inequality and power relations, to understand how corporate dominance over land impacts rural communities. Using a qualitative approach, this research analyzes the socio-economic conditions of smallholder farmers, their challenges in accessing land, and the resulting conflicts with corporate entities and the state. The findings reveal that land tenure insecurity forces many farmers into exploitative labor conditions, limiting their economic independence and reinforcing social stratification. Additionally, the government's agrarian policies often favor large-scale agribusinesses, further deepening rural inequality. To address these issues, policy recommendations include agrarian reform, legal land protection for small farmers, and strengthening farmer cooperatives as a means of economic empowerment. This study contributes to the discourse on land justice and sustainable rural development in Indonesia.
