Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of Arabic vocabulary learning using the digital media Educaplay Word Search Puzzle at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Semarang City and analyze the activities and responses of students during the learning process. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the research subjects of an Arabic teacher and grade VII students who are directly involved in learning activities. Data collection techniques include observation of the learning process, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation as supporting data. Data analysis is carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the use of Educaplay Word Search Puzzle media can create an interactive, collaborative, and participatory learning atmosphere. Students are actively involved in recognizing vocabulary, paying attention to Arabic letter patterns, and applying the mufradat found in the preparation of simple sentences. Digital game-based learning also encourages increased learning motivation, group cooperation, and the creation of a more meaningful vocabulary learning process. Thus, Educaplay Word Search Puzzle can be a relevant alternative digital media in supporting Arabic vocabulary learning at the madrasah level.

Abstract

Research on code-switching in Arabic media has largely focused on linguistic forms and educational background. In contrast, the role of high-prestige language varieties in constructing social hierarchy among adolescents in global digital media remains underexplored. This study addresses this gap by examining code-switching practices in the first season of the Netflix series Al Rawabi School for Girls. The study aims to analyze how Arabic-English code-switching functions as a socio-pragmatic resource for identity negotiation, power expression, and group differentiation among teenage girls. This research employs Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA) supported by Dell Hymes' SPEAKING framework and Tajfel and Turner's Social Identity Theory. A total of 83 instances of code-switching were identified and analyzed to examine the relationship between linguistic choices and social positioning. The findings reveal that code-switching is not merely an indicator of bilingual proficiency but primarily a symbolic strategy for constructing in-group solidarity and reinforcing out-group exclusion. English is associated with power, modernity, and social dominance, while Arabic serves as a marker of relational positioning and contextual identity negotiation. Among the observed data, patterns of linguistic behavior consistently reflect identity construction shaped by peer-group dynamics and media representation. This study contributes to sociolinguistic theory by demonstrating how linguistic globalization in digital media contexts facilitates the emergence of language-based social stratification and identity performance among Arab adolescents.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in higher education still faces challenges, particularly in students’ speaking fluency and vocabulary mastery. Studies on the implementation of the Four Strands model in Arabic fuṣḥā learning remain limited, especially in higher education contexts. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Four Strands model proposed by Paul Nation in the Al-Lughah Al-‘Arabiyyah Al-Fuṣḥā course at STAI Masjid Syuhada Yogyakarta. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles dan Huberman model. The results indicate that the four components of the Four Strands were integrated into the learning process, with an increase in the average score from 67.6 to 75.1. The uniqueness of this study lies in the comprehensive implementation of the Four Strands model in the context of Arabic fuṣḥā learning. This study contributes to the development of more communicative Arabic language learning in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Reciprocal Teaching strategy on improving students’ reading skills in modern Arabic texts. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental class and a control class. The sample consisted of 72 students selected through cluster random sampling. Data was collected through reading comprehension tests (pretest and posttest) and classroom observation, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent sample t-test. The results indicate that the mean posttest score of the experimental class (84.31) was significantly higher than that of the control class (72.58). The t-test analysis showed a significant value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. In addition, the percentage of improvement in the experimental class reached 37.1%, while the control class showed an improvement of only 17.0%. These findings demonstrate that the Reciprocal Teaching strategy has a significant effect on enhancing students’ reading skills in modern Arabic texts. Therefore, this strategy is effective as an alternative approach to qirā’ah instruction that promotes active participation and deeper reading comprehension.
