Abstract

This study explores religious moderation on social media, which has become the main platform for disseminating information and building interactions between individuals. However, in the context of religious plurality, using social media often poses challenges to religious moderation. This study will explore the use of social media in religious moderation, whether as a bridge or as a wall in providing space for interfaith dialog. Through a qualitative approach by analyzing controversial phenomena, user perceptions, and the role of algorithms. This research aims to identify critical points that affect the success or failure of religious moderation in creating an inclusive and productive dialog space. The researcher found that the narratives on social media have become conservative, allowing the free transmission of religious views without a filter. This research suggests that moderates should be more active in filling the spiritual space of the people so that social media can be a positive bridge to promote religious moderation. The research provides practical implications by detailing findings related to positive dialog, the role of opinion leaders, and the challenge of hoaxes. This can help design better strategies and policies to promote religious moderation on social media.

Abstract

Religious extremism has become one of the most serious challenges in contemporary society. When individuals or groups adopt radical and fanatical views of their religion, the consequences can have a negative impact on peace, tolerance, and social stability. In this article, the authors identify several factors that play a role in the rise of religious extremism. These factors include, but are not limited to, socio-economic inequality, lack of education, inter-religious tensions, political manipulation, and the influence of social media. Apart from that, this article also reviews how a wrong understanding of religion and narrow interpretation can lead to extremism. Understanding religion, accompanied by a dialogical approach regarding respect for differences in beliefs, will be emphasized as a way to overcome religious extremism. To find the root of the problem, further research is needed regarding the prevention efforts that have been carried out by the government, civil society, and religious organizations. The focus is on education, interfaith dialogue, and social development programs that seek to address the roots of problems and prevent radicalization. This article concludes by emphasizing the importance of collective awareness and global cooperation in confronting religious extremism. By addressing the root of the problem and trying to prevent the process of radicalization, society can achieve peace, harmony, and better interfaith understanding.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country rich in cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity, faces challenges in maintaining harmony and tolerance in its society. The importance of tolerance education from an early age, especially at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), is a primary focus. Indonesian language learning at MI plays a strategic role in teaching students the values of diversity and religious tolerance. Recent data shows significant challenges in fostering tolerant attitudes, particularly among the younger generation. Learning Indonesian at MI aims not only to improve students' language skills but also to introduce them to the concepts of tolerance and respect for differences. Integrating values of diversity into the curriculum allows students to appreciate differences and understand diverse perspectives in society. Consequently, the young generation emerging from MI is more open, accepting, and capable of maintaining harmony amidst Indonesia's diversity. Thus, learning Indonesian at MI is not only a means of communication but also a stage for character formation rooted in the values of diversity, which are essential to the Indonesian national identity.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to discuss the manifestation of religious moderation as a middle way to deal with left-wing (liberalism) and right-wing (radicalism) extremism within the scope of the State Islamic Religious University (PTKIN). This study emphasizes a qualitative approach with analytical-descriptive studies. The results and discussion of this study show that the concept of religious moderation requires religious people to be more inclusive (open) and not exclusive (closed). Religious moderation is not only an effort to mediate groups that are radical or extreme right, but also our efforts to mediate those who are liberal or extreme left. PTKIN as a forum for Islamic education under the auspices of the Ministry of Religion has an important role in giving birth to a moderate and tolerant young generation with a complex understanding of multiculturalism. Therefore, the manifestation of moderation in religion within the scope of PTKIN in the form of Religious Moderation Houses, religious courses, and the real role (realization) of religious moderation for each individual can lead us to the middle path to face left-right extremism within the scope of PTKIN as well as strengthen the concept of religious moderation that has been built. These aspects can channel us to harmony and harmony in the midst of diversity and diversity within the scope of PTKIN, even wider than that. The existence of this research is expected to be able to make academics and research to develop more widely related to the manifestation of religious moderation in all its forms and efforts, so as to give rise to new innovations to strengthen religious moderation in Indonesia.

Abstract

The diversity of educational backgrounds, socio-cultural situations, and so on has caused the positioning of religion as a normative reference to produce disparities, both at the levels of cognition, perception, and interpretation as well as at the level of diversity of self-expression. As a result, there are individuals who think about and follow a different understanding of religion than the general public. The purpose of this research is to discover the origins of religious schools of thought in Islam. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with data collection techniques through literature studies and interviews. The findings show that ignorance of adherents of Islam and its various aspects, rapid socio-economic changes, globalization that causes disorientation, psychological dislocation within certain circles of society, and fragmentation of authority over the interpretation of the holy texts (the Qur'an) have implications for a shift in religious authority that will become a driving factor for the birth of the principles of Islamic teachings.

Abstract

Religious moderation, defined as a balanced approach in practicing religion by avoiding extremism in the form of radicalism or liberalism, is crucial for maintaining social harmony in diverse societies. The family, as the first educational institution, holds a strategic role in instilling the values of religious moderation in children from an early age. This study aims to examine the influence of the family's role in managing religious moderation education for children in West Sipatana. A quantitative method with a simple regression analysis approach was employed to measure the extent of the family's impact on religious moderation education. Field findings reveal that the family contributes 75% to shaping children's attitudes toward religious moderation. These findings indicate that active family involvement in children's religious education, such as teaching respect for differing beliefs and fostering constructive dialogue, significantly influences the development of tolerant and inclusive moderate attitudes in children. This research underscores the vital role of families as primary actors in supporting religious moderation education in society.

Abstract

The relationship between religion and culture has become a complex topic in a variety of social and religious contexts. In the perspective of religious moderation, this relationship is seen as a balanced, respectful, and complementary interaction, where religious values do not have to conflict with cultural practices, and vice versa. Religious moderation prioritizes a middle ground attitude that emphasizes the principles of tolerance, peace, and respect for diversity. In this context, religion is not understood as a divisive force, but as a source of value that enriches the cultural life of the community. On the other hand, culture is also not interpreted as something that threatens the integrity of religious teachings, but as an expression of the social and spiritual identity of the people. This article aims to explore the understanding of how religious moderation can be a bridge in harmonizing religion with culture, as well as how religious moderation can strengthen social cohesion, enrich cultural heritage, and build harmony in a pluralistic society.
