Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe Gus Dur's pluralism thinking and the resolution of conflicts between religions by Gus Dur. Therefore, it is essential to know how Gus Dur's pluralism thinking developed in Indonesia and its implications for the lives of religious people. The approach taken in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis, which is used because this research provides a clear and detailed explanation. The type of research is library research. Data collection comes from books and journal articles relevant to the theme. Data processing is done by analyzing the sources and sorting them, then choosing the source that is closest to the discussion in this study. The results of this study indicate that Gus Dur's pluralistic thought is slightly different. Gus Dur does not generalize all religions but recognizes that each religious adherent has its aspects of true belief. Gus Dur's thought of pluralism was realized with the revocation of the Presidential Instruction, the defense of the Ahmadiyah, and the rejection of establishing an Islamic state.

Abstract

The concept of religious tolerance is not new. Clear evidence that religious tolerance has been implemented since ancient times can be seen in the policies implemented by the Mughal Dynasty. This research aims to explore the practice of religious tolerance from the Mughal Dynasty to Contemporary Indonesia, focusing on the continuity and changes in implementation in each period. The method used is a qualitative-comparative approach that involves analyzing historical documents and academic literature. The results of the study show that religious tolerance already existed during the Mughal Dynasty, it was marked by policies such as Sulh-i Khul and Ibadat Khana that aimed to unite various religions. In addition, the concept of Din-i-Ilahi introduced by Akbar tried to integrate the values of various religious traditions. In Indonesia, similar efforts are made through religious institutions and religious moderation education to maintain interfaith harmony. Both contexts show that tolerance can flourish through inclusive policies and constructive dialogue, although the challenges are different. Commitment to building a harmonious and respectful society remains key in dealing with diversity.

Abstract

This study examines the legal status of cross-religious greetings through a textual legal interpretation analysis based on fatwas and the concept of religious moderation. This practice, often observed in official events, has sparked significant debate among Muslim scholars and government officials. The controversy escalated following a fatwa issued by the East Java Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI), which declared cross-religious greetings haram due to concerns about the potential mixing of beliefs. This stance was countered by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which argued that such greetings promote interreligious harmony and are therefore permissible. Employing a literature-based approach and legal interpretation theory, this research provides an academic perspective without intending to discredit any party. The study concludes that cross-religious greetings are permissible (mubah) when intended to uphold national harmony and religious pluralism. It highlights the importance of balancing adherence to religious principles with the need for societal unity and coexistence in a pluralistic nation.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of social media in strengthening religious moderation among students of Islamic Religious Education. Employing a literature review methodology, this research synthesizes existing scholarly works to analyze how social media platforms influence the understanding and practice of religious moderation among this specific student demographic. The study explores the potential of social media as a tool for disseminating moderate Islamic teachings, fostering interfaith dialogue, and countering extremist narratives. Furthermore, it examines the challenges and risks associated with social media use, such as the spread of intolerance and radical ideologies. The findings highlight the significant impact of social media on shaping students' religious perspectives and underscore the need for strategic approaches to harness its positive potential while mitigating its negative influences. The implications of this research suggest the importance of developing digital literacy and critical thinking skills among students, as well as designing effective online educational initiatives that promote religious moderation and inclusivity.

Abstract

This article examines the development of poster media as an educational tool to instill the values of religious moderation in Bangsri Village. Religious moderation is an important concept in maintaining harmony, tolerance and harmony in a pluralistic society. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of poster media in conveying religious moderation messages to teenagers as a group that is vulnerable to being exposed to intolerance. The method used is qualitative research with data collection techniques through field observations, in-depth interviews with community leaders and teenagers, and literature studies related to moderation values. The results showed that poster media has high visual appeal, is easily understood by various groups, and is able to reach a wide range of public spaces. The developed posters contain core messages of religious moderation such as the importance of tolerance, mutual respect for differences, and rejection of all forms of violence and extremism in the name of religion. The poster design also considers the local context to make it more relevant to the lives of local communities. The findings show that poster media can be an effective communication strategy in religious education, especially in building youth awareness of the importance of peaceful coexistence in diversity.

Abstract

This research discusses the strategic role of religious moderation in supporting populist economic development and village community empowerment. Religious moderation, which emphasizes the values of balance, tolerance, and justice, contributes to creating social cohesion which is an important foundation for inclusive and sustainable village development. Through a qualitative approach with a literature study method, this research examines scientific literature and policy documents to understand the relationship between moderate religious values and village socio-economic dynamics. The results show that the implementation of religious moderation encourages collective participation, strengthens social capital, and facilitates cross-group cooperation in economic activities such as cooperatives, MSMEs, and BUMDes. Case studies in various villages show that religious forums, mutual cooperation activities, and education on the value of tolerance can increase solidarity and local economic productivity. Thus, religious moderation is not only relevant as a theological concept, but also as a practical approach to strengthen the capacity of village communities. This research recommends mainstreaming religious moderation in village development policies through collaboration between the government, religious leaders, and civil society to create peaceful, prosperous, and independent villages.

Abstract

Poverty is a central issue in social development in Indonesia. Religious moderation is expected to be a strategic approach to reducing poverty and realizing social justice. This research aims to explore and elaborate concrete strategies for implementing diverse moderation through qualitative methods and literature studies. The results show that religion has great potential in social and economic development. The implementation of diverse moderation through education plays an important role in instilling the values of tolerance, interfaith dialog, and respect for integrity. This education shapes a young generation that is inclusive and plays an active role in overcoming social inequalities. In addition, the optimization of philanthropic institutions, such as zakat, infaq and sadaqah, must be carried out professionally, transparently and sustainably to ensure equity. The synergy between education based on religious moderation and philanthropic management is expected to alleviate material poverty and create an inclusive and socially just society. Religious moderation becomes the main driver in sustainable economic empowerment, building social harmony, and realizing social justice as a whole.

Abstract

Dalam konteks masyarakat Indonesia yang kaya akan ragam dan budaya, memahami toleransi serta sikap yang moderat dalam beragama sangat penting bagi setiap individu. Oleh sebab itu, kontribusi guru agama dalam mengembangkan moderasi dalam beragama sangat penting. Dengan mengimplementasikan moderasi dalam beragama, institusi guruan dapat berfungsi sebagai tempat bagi siswa untuk mengenali dan menghargai berbagai perbedaan, serta hidup secara berdampingan dengan damai dan harmonis meskipun terdapat beragam kepercayaan yang ada. Ini menggunakan metode penelitian literatur, yaitu dengan menghimpun dan meneliti berbagai sumber teori yang relevan, seperti buku, jurnal ilmiah, artikel, dan publikasi lainnya yang membahas peran guru agama dalam memfasilitasi moderasi dalam beragama. Data penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan moderat dalam beragama adalah metode yang bijak dan harmonis untuk menjalani kehidupan spiritual, sambil terus menghormati nilai-nilai kemanusiaan serta kepentingan kolektif. Para guru agama memiliki peluang untuk mengembangkan moderasi beragama dengan cara mengajarkan siswaan agama kepada siswa secara inklusif, mendorong komunikasi antar pemeluk agama, menekankan pentingnya toleransi, memberikan arahan spiritual, serta mengatur program keagamaan yang dapat diakses oleh semua. Dengan menekankan norma-norma positif yang ada dalam agama serta menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang ramah, para guru agama dapat berkontribusi dalam membentuk siswa agar bersikap inklusif dan moderat dalam praktik keagamaan.

Abstract

Religious intolerance toward the construction of churches for non-Muslim communities in Indonesia, especially in Muslim-majority regions, remains a pressing issue despite constitutional guarantees of religious freedom. Repeated cases of rejection, demonstrations, and administrative obstacles illustrate a deeper societal problem rooted in communal pressure and the dominance of majority norms. Analyzing this phenomenon through the perspective of religious moderation an Indonesian framework for promoting tolerance and coexistence offers insight into the social dynamics behind these acts. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a sociological approach, the research draws data from national online media reports including Liputan6, Kompas, Kumparan, and VOA Indonesia, complemented by academic literature on religious pluralism and intergroup relations. Thematic analysis reveals consistent patterns of social resistance, driven by fear of religious minorities, narrow interpretations of religious doctrine, and the politicization of identity. Such resistance contradicts the core principles of religious moderation, which emphasize tolerance, justice, peaceful coexistence, and anti-violence. The findings highlight the importance of promoting inclusive religious understanding through public education, interfaith dialogue, and proactive government policy. Embedding religious moderation in everyday social interactions is vital for ensuring that the rights of religious minorities are respected and that religion continues to serve as a force for compassion, justice, and national unity.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas fenomena merokok saat berkendara yang sering dianggap wajar oleh masyarakat, namun memiliki dampak negatif terhadap keselamatan dan etika publik. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode studi pustaka dan observasi fenomenologis, artikel ini menganalisis perilaku tersebut dalam kerangka moderasi beragama yang meliputi empat indikator utama: komitmen kebangsaan, toleransi, anti kekerasan, dan penerimaan terhadap tradisi lokal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perilaku merokok saat berkendara bertentangan dengan keempat nilai tersebut dan mencerminkan lemahnya kesadaran sosial. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan moderasi beragama dapat menjadi strategi solutif dalam menumbuhkan etika publik. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai moderasi beragama dalam edukasi sosial dan kebijakan publik guna menciptakan budaya berkendara yang aman, tertib, dan beretika.
