Abstract

Workload is one of the major challenges faced by employees in the retail sector, particularly minimarket employees who are required to perform multiple tasks simultaneously under demanding working conditions. Effective coping strategies are therefore essential to help employees manage these work demands. This study aimed to examine the relationship between problem-focused coping and workload among minimarket employees in Bekasi Regency. A quantitative correlational research design was employed involving 100 minimarket employees selected using quota sampling. Data were collected using the Problem-Focused Coping Scale based on Carver et al. (1989) and the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) developed by Hart and Staveland (1988). Pearson Product-Moment correlation analysis was performed using JASP software. The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between problem-focused coping and workload (r = 0.782; p 0.001). The results indicate that employees experiencing higher workloads tend to employ problem-focused coping strategies more frequently. Most respondents demonstrated high levels of problem-focused coping, while their perceived workload was at a moderate level. These findings suggest that problem-focused coping functions as an adaptive strategy enabling employees to manage increasing work demands rather than directly reducing workload. The study contributes to the understanding of coping mechanisms among retail employees and provides practical implications for organizational efforts to strengthen employees' adaptive coping strategies.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital communication has contributed to the emergence of various linguistic innovations among Generation Z, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok. One of the prominent phenomena is the use of English terms that undergo semantic shifts when adopted into Indonesian youth slang. This study aims to describe English terms that experience semantic change in Generation Z slang on TikTok, identify the forms of semantic shifts, and explain the factors underlying such changes. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data consisted of words, phrases, captions, comments, and utterances containing English terms used by Generation Z in TikTok content. Data were collected through documentation and observation techniques and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing procedures. The findings revealed 20 English terms, consisting of 12 words and 8 phrases, that experienced semantic shifts. The identified forms of semantic change include semantic broadening, semantic narrowing, association, metaphor, and amelioration. Metaphor was found to be the most dominant type of semantic shift, followed by semantic broadening and association. These findings indicate that Generation Z actively reconstructs the meanings of English terms according to the communicative needs and cultural practices of digital environments. The study contributes to semantic studies by demonstrating how social media functions as a space for the creation and dissemination of new meanings in contemporary digital communication.

Abstract

The Child-Friendly School program is one of the government’s efforts to create an educational environment that is safe, comfortable, inclusive, and free from violence against children. Surabaya City, as a city implementing the Child-Friendly City policy, has implemented the Child-Friendly School Program in various educational institutions, including SDN Ketintang II Surabaya. However, in its implementation, several problems are still found, such as negative verbal behavior among students, the use of harsh language, mockery, and environmental conditions around the school that do not fully support a child-friendly culture. Therefore, this study aims to describe the implementation of the Child-Friendly School Program at SDN Ketintang II Surabaya. This research used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The focus of this study used the policy implementation theory of Donald Van Meter and Carl Van Horn which includes policy standards and objectives, resources, inter-organizational communication and implementation activities, characteristics of implementing institutions, implementers’ disposition, as well as social, economic, and political conditions. The results showed that the implementation of the Child-Friendly School Program at SDN Ketintang II Surabaya has been running fairly well through the establishment of the Child-Friendly School team, positive habituation activities, collaboration with various parties, and efforts to create a more child-friendly learning environment. However, the implementation has not been fully optimal due to obstacles such as negative verbal behavior among students and social environmental conditions around the school that do not fully support a child-friendly culture.

Abstract

India is currently the most populous country in the world, with an estimated population of approximately 1.46 billion people. Despite its significant economic growth in recent decades, poverty remains a major challenge affecting a large proportion of the population. Recent data indicate that nearly 50% of India's population is categorized as poor, while around 40% experience limited access to essential facilities and public services. Poverty in India is a multidimensional issue influenced by various interconnected factors, including unequal economic development, inadequate infrastructure, limited educational opportunities, and restricted access to healthcare services. This study aims to examine how poverty contributes not only to the formation of social class disparities but also to broader security and welfare concerns within Indian society. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the relationship between poverty, social inequality, and security issues. The findings reveal that unbalanced urban growth and uneven distribution of resources have intensified disparities in education, healthcare, public facilities, and employment opportunities. These inequalities create social tensions that may increase the risk of crime, social unrest, and conflict among different groups within society. Therefore, addressing poverty and reducing socio-economic inequality are essential steps toward improving social welfare, maintaining stability, and strengthening human security in India.

Abstract

Digital transformation in public services encourages governments to develop technology-based innovations to improve service quality and efficiency. One of these innovations is the Surabaya Licensing and Investment Information System Application (SIPINTAR), developed by the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Office of Surabaya City (DPMPTSP) as a chatbot-based information service for licensing and investment matters. This study aims to analyze the SIPINTAR innovation using Everett M. Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation theory, which consists of five attributes: relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving informants selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that SIPINTAR has generally contributed positively to improving the quality of public services in licensing and investment. The application increases service efficiency, accelerates access to information, and reduces the workload of public officers. In addition, SIPINTAR is compatible with existing regulations and integrated with other service systems. However, several challenges remain, including limited public digital literacy, the system's dependence on specific keywords, and the low visibility of the application's benefits among non-users.

Abstract

The food crisis in Yemen is one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. This issue is caused by prolonged conflict, economic instability, and disruptions in food production and distribution systems. This study aims to analyze the food crisis in Yemen as a non-traditional security threat, examine the role of international assistance, and assess the potential for dependency through the perspective of Dependency Theory. The findings indicate that the food crisis in Yemen is not merely an economic issue but also a threat to Human Security, as it hinders the fulfillment of the population’s basic needs. In this situation, international organizations such as the World Food Programme and the United Nations Children’s Fund play significant roles through food assistance, nutrition programs, healthcare services, and protection for vulnerable groups. However, reliance on international aid has the potential to reinforce dependency relationships between recipient countries and donor actors. From the perspective of Dependency Theory, international assistance may alleviate the crisis in the short term, but it does not fully address the root causes of the food crisis. Therefore, strengthening domestic capacity and achieving food self-sufficiency are necessary as long-term solutions.

Abstract

The Adiwiyata Program is one of the Indonesian government's initiatives aimed at developing environmentally responsible schools through the implementation of Good Environmental Governance principles. The success of the program depends not only on its implementation but also on the school's ability to apply strategic management systematically through strategy formulation, implementation, and evaluation. This study aims to analyze the strategic management of the Adiwiyata Program in achieving good environmental governance at SMP Negeri 42 Surabaya. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis referred to the strategic management theory proposed by Fred R. David and Forest R. David (2017), consisting of strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and strategy evaluation. The findings indicate that strategy formulation includes developing an environmentally oriented vision and mission, conducting internal and external environmental analyses, establishing long-term objectives, and formulating strategic programs. Strategy implementation is carried out through environmentally friendly school policies, integration of environmental education into the curriculum, participatory environmental activities, and the provision of environmentally friendly supporting facilities. Strategy evaluation is conducted through periodic monitoring, performance measurement, and corrective actions. Overall, the strategic management of the Adiwiyata Program at SMP Negeri 42 Surabaya has been implemented effectively and contributes to achieving good environmental governance, although several challenges remain, including uneven student participation, budget limitations, infrastructure optimization, and program sustainability.

Abstract

Marina Boom Beach in Banyuwangi has developed into a modern tourist destination, with the number of visitors increasing by 40% in the last three years. However, this rapid development has caused problems such as damage to the mangrove ecosystem and inequality of community members' participation in local management. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of community participation in the management of Marina Boom Beach and identify obstacles that hinder the participation of marginal groups (youths and women). This study uses qualitative research methods with the design of phenomenological case studies. Data collection is done through participant observation, in-depth interviews with key informants (managers, government officials, and community leaders), and library reviews. Data analysis interprets the informant's field experience using the Miles and Herberman interaction model. Research results show that public participation in the management of Marina Boom Beach is not comprehensive. The role of environmental conservation is still dominated by elderly fishermen centered around the "Laskar Marina" group, while the participation of youth and women is still sporadic and minimal. Major obstacles include a lack of reproduction of roles and limited opportunities for local people to participate in the policy-making process. This study concluded that a more integrated community-based management model was needed to harmonize the economic benefits of tourism, ecological sustainability, and social justice in coastal communities.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of the concept of ikhlas (sincerity) in the film Hafalan Shalat Delisa from a Sufism (tasawuf) perspective. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach with content analysis method, this study analyzes the scenes, dialogues, and character development of the main protagonist to identify the forms of ikhlas representation found in the film. The theoretical framework employed is the concept of ikhlas in Al-Ghazali's Sufi perspective, particularly the spiritual maqamat framework encompassing patience (sabar), reliance on God (tawakal), and acceptance (ridha). The results show that ikhlas in this film is represented through four interrelated dimensions: (1) ikhlas in worship, reflected in the transformation of the protagonist Delisa's motivation in memorizing prayer recitations from material orientation toward sincerity of intention for the sake of Allah; (2) ikhlas in patience, presented through the character's inner response to the layered losses caused by the tsunami disaster; (3) ikhlas in tawakal, displayed through the character's struggle to rise again while fully surrendering the outcome to Allah; and (4) ikhlas in ridha, as the culmination of the spiritual journey manifested in sincere heartfelt acceptance of Allah's decree. These findings affirm that the film Hafalan Shalat Delisa functions not merely as religiously themed entertainment, but also as a cultural text that authentically represents Sufi spiritual values through a coherent cinematic narrative.
