Abstract

Sandalwood (Santalum album L.) is an endemic plant and an important natural resource in improving the economy of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Sandalwood has a very fragrant aroma and contains essential oils so that it has a high selling value and is one of the sources of regional income (PAD). Sandalwood growth is very slow in nature due to its parasitic nature. To meet its nutritional needs, it depends on the host plant so that sandalwood needs to establish an association with other plants (hosts) in order to survive through haustoria formed from sandalwood plant roots. This study aims to determine the diameter and height of sandalwood seedlings planted with a combination of several types of hosts. The study was conducted in TDM 2 Village, Kupang NTT, using an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The results of statistical analysis showed that the diversity of host types had a significant effect on the increase in the height of sandalwood seedlings and had a very significant effect on the diameter of sandalwood seedlings, this is evidenced by the sandalwood stem height analysis table. The highest average height of sandalwood seedlings was found in treatment P2 with an average height of 84.3 and the highest average diameter of sandalwood seedlings was found in treatment P1, namely 3.85.

Abstract

Carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758) is a species of freshwater fish that has great opportunities for cultivation development to meet increasing market needs. One of the obstacles faced in goldfish cultivation is disease attacks, both at the hatchery level and at the grow-out level. Starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) is a fruit plant native to Indonesia that contains flavonoid compounds which have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, so it has the potential to be used to control disease in aquaculture organisms. This research aims to determine the benefits of starfruit extract solution on the hatchability of goldfish eggs. Administration of 1.2 mL/L starfruit extract solution. The results of the study showed that the use of starfruit extract could increase the hatchability of goldfish eggs, but the higher the dose of starfruit extract used, the lower the hatchability of goldfish eggs. A solution of starfruit extract with a dose of 0.4 mL/L produced the highest hatchability of 77.22%.

Abstract

Bacterial resistance to antibiotics encourages the development of alternative antibacterial agents based on natural ingredients. Shallots (Allium x wakegi Araki.) Palu cultivars are known to contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and steroids that have the potential as antibacterials. This study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract fraction of Palu shallot bulbs against Salmonella typhi and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and to identify the bioactive compounds contained therein. The thick extract was obtained through 96% ethanol maceration and then fractionated using Vacuum Liquid Chromatography (VLC). Identification of compounds was carried out using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and specific detection reagents (Dragendorff, Liebermann-Burchard, AlCl?, FeCl?). The antibacterial activity of each fraction was tested using the direct bioautography method. The results of the study are expected to reveal the active fractions and the dominant bioactive compounds as natural antibacterial candidates. These findings are expected to support the utilization of local biological resources as an alternative in the development of plant-based antimicrobial agents, especially from the Palu red onion cultivar which has high adaptive and bioactive potential.

Abstract

Lysosomes function to degrade and recycle cellular components using enzymes that operate in an acidic environment. This organelle helps break down proteins and damaged organelles, supporting cellular renewal through autophagy. Autophagy is a cellular stress response, particularly during nutrient or growth factor deprivation, where intracellular components are recycled to supply energy and raw materials. The regulation of autophagy is controlled by mTOR and AMPK, which respond to the cell’s nutritional status. Previous studies have shown that autophagy is essential for cellular homeostasis and is linked to various diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, and aging. In animal models, autophagy gene deficiencies can result in poor metabolism and early death. Research has also demonstrated how autophagy aids in clearing damaged mitochondria, paving the way for potential treatments for degenerative diseases. This study uses meta-analysis of various research findings to synthesize insights on lysosomes and autophagy under nutritional stress. Data were collected from relevant studies and analyzed statistically to assess the consistency of findings and the factors influencing autophagy. The meta-analysis aims to reinforce the connection between nutrient stress and autophagy and to evaluate the therapeutic potential of autophagy modulation. Results indicate that increased autophagy during nutrient stress can protect cells but may also contribute to disease pathology if not properly regulated. Therefore, further research into autophagy mechanisms and their therapeutic potential is necessary.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Constructivist Teaching Sequence (CTS) learning model supported by Augmented Reality (AR) media on cell concept material. The main focus is to evaluate the extent to which each stage in the syntax of the CTS model can be implemented properly during the learning process. This study used a quantitative descriptive approach with a learning implementation observation instrument. The research subjects were 25 students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Gorontalo. The results showed that the exploration, restructuring, and evaluation stages were optimally implemented with percentages reaching 100%, 97%, and 100%, respectively. The introduction stage is at 80%, while the application of new concepts still needs to be improved with 70% implementation. The overall average of learning implementation reached 89%, which is included in the excellent category. This finding indicates that the AR-assisted CTS model is very feasible to be applied to support students' active involvement and concept understanding.
