Abstract

The increasing life expectancy in Indonesia has led to a growing elderly population, thereby intensifying the demand for financial protection against Long-Term Care (LTC) risks. This study aims to calculate the Actuarial Present Value (APV) of Long-Term Care (LTC) benefits for married couples using an actuarial model based on a multistate Markov framework. The model incorporates 15 possible health status transitions between the couple, covering combinations of healthy, ill, and deceased states without distinguishing between husband and wife. Transition probabilities are derived from the Indonesian Mortality Table IV (TMI IV) and the National Morbidity Table. These probabilities are then used to estimate the present value of LTC costs under assumptions of basic benefits, increased benefits when one or both spouses are ill, and a fixed interest rate of 6%. Simulation results show that the total present value of LTC benefits over a 20-year contract period amounts to IDR 96,537,664.69. This model demonstrates both flexibility and accuracy in estimating future care needs and the benefits received. The findings provide valuable insight for the design of spouse-based life insurance products in Indonesia

Abstract

Creative thinking is the ability to explore and develop original ideas that come from personal thoughts. However, in reality, students' creative thinking skills in science education are still low. Several factors that can influence this are low curiosity and inadequate learning media and approaches. This study aims to test the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of SSI (Socio Scientific Issue)-based E-LKPD in improving students' creative thinking skills in science learning. This study used the ADDIE research model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. SSI (Socio Scientific Issue)-based E-LKPD has been applied in science learning at SMP Negeri 6 Jember in class VIII C with the results that SSI (Socio Scientific Issue)-based E-LKPD can be declared highly valid with a percentage of 94,48%, highly practical with a percentage of 94,09%, and effective in improving creative thinking skills with an N-gain score of 0,74, which is categorized as high. It also received a very good response from students with a percentage of 91,17%. The results showed that SSI-based E-LKPD has a high level of validity, is practical for teachers and students to use, and is effective in improving creative thinking skills. This research contributes to science learning by providing contextual SSI-based E-LKPD related to scientific social issues so that it can help students connect scientific concepts with real-world problems. SSI-based E-LKPD not only supports material understanding but also stimulates curiosity and enhances creative thinking skills. Additionally, it can serve as teaching material for teachers to implement meaningful, contextual learning oriented towards 21st century skills

Abstract

This study aims to identify and compare the most effective forecasting methods in predicting coffee beverage sales in minimarkets using Holt's Double Exponential Smoothing and Trend Analysis methods. The main problem in this study is to determine the forecasting method that can provide the highest level of accuracy to support optimal inventory planning. This research was conducted at a minimarket, namely Indomaret TangCity, as the research location, using secondary data in the form of monthly coffee beverage sales data from January 2022 to June 2025. This research did not involve participants directly but focused on historical sales data as the object of analysis. The research method used was a quantitative approach with a comparative method. The data was analyzed using Holt's Double Exponential Smoothing and Trend Analysis methods, which are suitable for data with trend patterns. The analysis stages included determining the smoothing parameters, calculating the forecasting results, and evaluating the accuracy using the Mean Square Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) measures. The results show that the Quadratic Trend Analysis method has the best accuracy with an MSE value of 87,337.41, MAD of 224.37, and MAPE of 7.247%. Therefore, this method is used to forecast coffee beverage sales for the period July 2025 to December 2025.

Abstract

The 21st century demands individuals to possess adequate scientific literacy to navigate technological advancements and global challenges. Scientific literacy entails understanding scientific concepts and strengthening abilities critical thinking. However, the 2022 PISA results revealed that Indonesian learners’ scientific literacy remains low, with a mean score of 383, below the OECD average. This condition calls for the implementation of effective learning models, among them is Project Based Learning (PjBL). This research seeks to examine the application of PjBL in science learning and how it affects students’ scientific literacy through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Fifteen articles obtained from Google Scholar were analyzed using the keywords “Model Project Based Learning” “Literasi Sains” “Siswa Sekolah” and “Pembalajaran IPA” with the selection process following PRISMA guidelines. The analysis shows that PjBL positively influences the improvement of scientific literacy across educational levels. At the elementary level, PjBL helps students grasp scientific concepts through contextual project activities. In lower secondary school, the integration of digital media such as E-LKPD and liveworksheets enhances students’ scientific reasoning. In upper secondary school, the combination of PjBL with STEM approaches and cultural contexts effectively strengthens higher-order thinking skills. Overall, PjBL is proven to be a relevant model for improving students’ scientific literacy by promoting active, collaborative, and project-oriented learning which fosters the growth of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Science process skills represent fundamental abilities that must be strengthened in 21st-century education, as they support students in developing scientific ways of thinking, solving problems, and constructing conceptual understanding. Data from the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) show that Indonesian students achieved a science score of 383, a decline from 396 in 2018, which reflects the limited development of essential scientific skills. This study analyzes the role of the Discovery Learning model in enhancing students’ science process skills at elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels in Indonesia. The research employed a Systematic Literature Review method following PRISMA guidelines. An initial search of Google Scholar using the keywords Discovery Learning, Science Process Skills, and Science identified 4,820 articles. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 28 relevant studies published between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed, consisting of 4 elementary, 12 junior high, and 12 senior high school studies. The findings consistently show that Discovery Learning positively influences science process skills through observing, experimenting, and drawing conclusions based on empirical evidence. Across educational levels, this model supports scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and scientific attitudes. This review contributes to science education by synthesizing evidence on the implementation of Discovery Learning across educational levels, providing a structured reference for educators and researchers to strengthen science process skills instruction. In addition, the findings highlight opportunities for future studies to integrate Discovery Learning with digital technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to further enhance students’ scientific competencies

Abstract

Students’ scientific argumentation skills are not yet optimally developed because classroom learning is still dominated by teacher-centered activities. Students tend to memorize material rather than practice constructing evidence-based arguments. Problem Based Learning (PBL) is considered an effective innovative learning approach as it emphasizes active student involvement in solving real-world problems through group discussions, with the teacher acting as a facilitator. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of PBL in enhancing students’ scientific argumentation skills. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA method was conducted. Articles were searched through Google Scholar using the keywords “Problem Based Learning,” “Scientific Argumentation,” and “Science.” The search yielded 354 articles, which were screened based on publication year (2019–2025), full-text availability, language, and topic relevance. Fifteen articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that PBL effectively improves students’ scientific argumentation skills at the elementary, junior, and senior high school levels. The quality of argumentation can be further enhanced by using interactive media, such as PowerPoint, virtual simulations, and student worksheets (LKPD), as well as learning approaches like Socio-Scientific Issues and Flipped Classroom.

Abstract

Urban pluvial flooding is one of the most frequent hydrometeorological disasters in densely populated areas and is a serious problem for many cities around the world. This flooding is triggered by high rainfall intensity, represented by the Intensity Duration Frequency (IDF) curve, as well as limited drainage network capacity due to inadequate channel size, hydraulic roughness, sedimentation, and waste accumulation. To address these issues, this study applies an integrated modeling method between SWMM and a 2D hydrodynamic model using rainfall data derived from Intensity Duration Frequency (IDF) analysis based on historical rainfall records from BMKG during the period 2014-2024, DEM/topography, land use, drainage channel characteristics, and actual inundation observations in the Ciledug Seskoal area, South Jakarta. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of pluvial flooding in the study area and evaluate the performance of the SWMM–2D model in simulating surface runoff and flooding processes. The calibration results show that the model is able to capture inflow patterns and hydrographs that are consistent with the observation data. Model validation demonstrated moderate agreement between simulated and observed inundation depths, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.79 (R² = 0.63). The distribution of flooding depth indicated that most of the affected areas experienced flooding of more than 60 cm, signifying a significant level of risk. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of SWMM and a 2D hydrodynamic model validated with actual inundation data in a dense urban setting, which improves the accuracy of pluvial flood simulation compared to conventional methods. Overall, the integrated SWMM-2D model proved effective in predicting urban pluvial flood characteristics and can be used as a scientific basis for formulating flood mitigation strategies in densely populated residential areas

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in solving ethnomathematics-based student worksheets (LKPD) using woven fabric motifs as a geometric learning context. The study was motivated by the low level of students’ HOTS achievement in mathematics and the limited research examining students’ higher-order thinking processes through local cultural contexts. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design involving nine ninth-grade students at a junior high school in Gowa Regency. Data were collected through analysis of students’ written responses to four worksheet activities, classroom observations, and learning documentation. The instruments included ethnomathematics-based worksheets, observation guidelines, and a HOTS assessment rubric measuring analysis, evaluation, and creation skills. The findings indicate varied levels of HOTS: three students were categorized as high, four as moderate, and two as low. High-category students demonstrated the ability to identify geometric elements, analyze patterns, and provide logical mathematical justifications. In contrast, moderate and low-category students experienced difficulties in connecting cultural patterns with geometric concepts and in developing appropriate solution strategies. The novelty of this study lies in its in-depth analysis of students’ HOTS thinking processes through the integration of local woven fabric motifs as an ethnomathematical context in geometry worksheets. The results imply that while ethnomathematics-based worksheets can stimulate higher-order thinking, their effectiveness depends on students’ conceptual readiness. Therefore, teachers should combine cultural contexts with structured conceptual reinforcement to ensure more equitable HOTS development

Abstract

Production scheduling in the multi-product manufacturing industry faces increasingly complex challenges related to the allocation of limited resources such as raw materials, machine hours, and labor. In the era of industry 4.0, operational efficiency is a key determinant of competitiveness, yet many medium-scale industries still rely on intuitive methods that fail to capture the multidimensional trade-offs of production. This study, designed as a simulative case study, aims to apply the linear programming approach using the simplex method to determine the optimal product combination that maximizes profit and to perform a deep sensitivity analysis to evaluate resource resilience within a conceptual manufacturing environment. The simplex algorithm is processed iteratively to reach the optimal solution, followed by sensitivity analysis to identify binding constraint and calculate shadow price. The results indicate that the optimal production composition generated by the simplex model is capable of increasing projected profits 22,4% compared to the conventional heuristic method. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis reveals that machine hours constitute a critical resource (scarce) with a significant positive shadow price, providing a concrete managerial recommendation to prioritize capacity expansion in that sector over labor expansion. It is concluded that the simplex method provides a robust, measurable, and adaptable basis for strategic decision-making in production operations amidst market fluctuations

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low critical thinking skills of junior high school students in science learning and the limited application of learning that systematically integrates engineering and programming processes. The study uses a non-equivalent control quasi-experimental design, involving an experimental class that implements EDP-based science learning and a control class without special treatment. The research subjects consisted of 72 students from classes VII B and VII C at SMPN 2 Jember.  Primary data included questionnaires on students' attitudes toward coding and pretest-posttest for critical thinking skills, while secondary data were obtained from observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis included normality tests, homogeneity tests, and two-way ANOVA tests. The results of the analysis showed that the posttest score of the experimental class (83.03) was higher than that of the control class (76.11). The two-way ANOVA analysis showed a significant difference in critical thinking skills (p = 0.001 < 0.05), and students' attitudes toward coding also contributed significantly to critical thinking skills (p = 0.001 < 0.05). However, there was no significant interaction between EDP-based science learning and students' attitudes toward coding (p = 0.634 > 0.05). This study confirms that EDP-based science learning and students’ positive attitudes toward coding separately contribute to developing critical thinking skills in junior high school students. The implications of this study indicate that EDP-based science learning can be used as an alternative science learning strategy in junior high schools to support the development of critical thinking skills, even without interaction between learning and students’ attitudes toward coding.
