Abstract

Mathematics plays a significant role in developing students' logical, critical and creative thinking abilities. However, there are still many students who consider mathematics to be a difficult subject, which ultimately influences students' low ability to solve problems. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the project-based learning model in the independent curriculum on students' problem-solving abilities. This research design uses Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The data analysis technique in this research uses statistical test analysis. The type of research used is quantitative research. The sample used was class IX of Ibnu Umar Geger, Bangkalan, Indonesia Middle School. The instruments used include the teacher's ability to manage learning, student activities, student responses and pretest-posttest score results. Based on the results of data analysis, it shows that the average score for teachers' ability to manage learning using the Project Based Learning learning model was obtained at 4 (very good category). Thus, the teacher's ability to manage learning is said to be effective. Data analysis of the percentage of student activity towards the Project Based Learning learning model was obtained at 3.75 (very active category), and students' positive response to the Project Based Learning learning model was obtained at 93% ((strongly agree category) students felt happy following the Project Based Learning learning model. Thus the student response was said to be effective. Descriptive analysis of the pretest and posttest scores used data normality tests and hypothesis testing. The project based learning model can be said to be effective in improving students’ problem solving abilities. This research has had a positive impact on improving students' abilities, particularly in problem-solving, critical thinking, and active participation during the learning process. Overall, the findings of this study contribute to the development of innovations in mathematics learning. Abstract

Many students have low mathematical comprehension skills. This is partly due to a loss of interest and desire to learn. The purpose of this study is to improve students' mathematical comprehension skills through an ethnomathematics approach at the Al-Jabbar Grand Mosque with the help of Geogebra. This study, which used a sample of 38 students from SMP IT Ar-Rifqi for the 2024–2025 academic year, examined ethnomathematics in the architecture of the Al-Jabbar Grand Mosque as a geometry teaching aid with the help of Geogebra. Triangles, rhombuses, and other mathematical ideas are reflected in the design of this mosque. This research strategy, which combines exploratory ethnomathematics methodology with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design, uses a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques include pretests and posttests of mathematical comprehension, as well as questionnaires. Data analysis techniques were carried out in several stages, namely the normality test, homogeneity test, unpaired t-test (independent sample t-test), and N-Gain to see the increase in scores from pretest to posttest. The findings of this study indicate that ethnomathematics methods combined with technology (GeoGebra) have significant potential to improve the standards of mathematics teaching. In addition to enhancing conceptual knowledge, this method helps students appreciate their local culture and the practical applications of mathematics

Abstract

The title of this study reflects an idealistic vision of improving mathematics learning quality through innovative approaches; however, empirical evidence indicates that students’ problem-solving abilities, particularly in critical thinking and mathematical creativity, still require improvement. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of integrating deep learning, flipped classroom, and digital storytelling in enhancing students’ critical thinking and mathematical creativity. Using a quantitative experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group, the study involved 33 eight-grade students, devided into an experimental group and a control group. The findings showed a significant improvement in the experimental group compared to the control group, especially in the aspect of interpretation, evaluation, and inference. More students in the experimental group moved into higher performance categories after the intervention. These results indicate that the integration of flipped classroom and digital storytelling in deep learning-based mathematics instruction fosters students’ engagement, supports critical and creative thinking, and enhances their ability to apply mathematical concepts in real-world contexts.

Abstract

The low level of critical and creative thinking skills among students is a major challenge in mathematics learning, especially in SPLDV material that requires a deep understanding of concepts. To overcome this problem, an ISC-based module was developed, designed to improve students' critical and creative thinking skills. This study aims to: (1) develop an ISC-based module to improve students' CCT; (2) determine the validity and feasibility of the developed module; and (3) measure the effectiveness of the module's use in improving students' CCT. This study uses a research and development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model (analysis, design, develop, implement, and evaluate). The participants in this study were 40 students, consisting of 10 students in Grade VIII and 10 students in Grade IX, who were divided into a limited trial group (Grade IX) and a broader trial group (Grade VIII). The instruments used included an expert validation sheet, a student response questionnaire, and a CCT test. The results of the expert validation showed that the module was very feasible for use as teaching material. The limited trial and broader trial showed a significant increase in students' critical and creative thinking skills after using the module. Continuous evaluation through revision of the substance of the material, improvement of the design, and technical refinement of the presentation of the material also improved the quality of the module. Thus, the ISC-based module proved to be valid, feasible, and effective in improving students' CCT in SPLDV learning, as well as contributing significantly to efforts to improve the quality of mathematics learning oriented towards higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are important for students in mathematics learning, but this ability has not developed optimally in most students. This study aims to determine the achievement and improvement of students' critical thinking skills through the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach assisted by Liveworksheets, as well as to see students' responses to the learning. This study used the Quasi Experimental method with Nonequivalent Comparison Group Design. The study population was students of grades X-1 and X-2 of SMA PGRI Cianjur in the 2024/2025 academic year who were selected by purposive sampling. The experimental class used the RME approach assisted by Liveworksheets, while the control class used conventional learning. Critical thinking ability instruments were found in the SPLTV material and student response questionnaires. Data analysis to see achievement used the difference test of two means while improvement data was analyzed using Mann Whitney and student responses used percentages based on students' positive responses. The results showed that the achievement of students' critical thinking skills with the RME approach assisted by Liveworksheets was better than conventional learning; Meanwhile, the increase in students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class was better than conventional learning and was in the low category and students' attitudes responded positively to learning with the RME approach assisted by Liveworksheets

Abstract

Numeracy skills are essential competencies that support the development of logical, critical, and systematic thinking in students. However, the reality shows that elementary school students' numeracy skills are still relatively low. This study aims to identify and describe factors that influence the low numeracy skills of fifth-grade students at SD 2 Tumpangkrasak. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving two key informants. Data collection techniques consisted of observation, interviews, documentation, and numeracy problems analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students' low numeracy skills were caused by internal and external factors. Internal factors include a lack of learning motivation, anxiety about mathematics, and low self-confidence. Meanwhile, external factors include a non-contextual learning approach, a less supportive classroom environment, and limited parental involvement. In addition, students also experienced difficulties in understanding mathematical symbols, reading and interpreting data in the form of graphs or tables, and using numerical information in decision-making. With this research, teachers and schools are able to identify the factors causing students' low numeracy skills and can overcome students' low numeracy skills

Abstract

Geometry is often considered abstract and difficult for elementary students because of limited use of concrete and engaging media. This issue often reduces motivation and weakens understanding of basic geometry concepts. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of interactive image media in teaching geometry to fourth-grade students at SDN 2 Bagawat, Kecamatan Selajambe, Kabupaten Kuningan. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed thematically using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that interactive image media increased student participation, clarified abstract concepts such as shapes and angles, and created a more engaging and enjoyable learning atmosphere. Teachers also reported that the media made it easier to deliver materials and stimulated student responsiveness. This research shows that interactive image media has a significant impact on mathematics learning in elementary schools. By turning abstract geometry into concrete experiences, it improves comprehension, fosters motivation, and supports the development of critical and creative thinking. Thus, this strategy can be an innovative alternative for mathematics instruction at the primary level
