Abstract

This research is motivated by the need to improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts, as well as the lack of appropriate mathematics learning media to facilitate this capability, particularly in the area of integers, which is not as straightforward as it seems. To address this issue, a mathematics educational game media assisted by Genially has been developed. This study aims to explore the development process, validity, practicality, effectiveness, and student responses to the educational game media assisted by Genially concerning integer material. The method used in this research is the Research and Development (R&D) ADDIE model (analysis, design, develop, implement, and evaluate). The participants in this study are 28 students from class VII-A at SMP PGII 1 Bandung. The instruments used include expert validation sheets, student practicality sheets, and effectiveness sheets in the form of a test on the understanding of mathematical concepts, as well as the student response survey. The results of this research and development indicate that the educational game media for mathematics assisted by Genially received the criteria of 'Valid' from both media and content experts, the practicality of the educational media received the criteria of 'Practical', the effectiveness of the educational media received the criteria of 'Effective', and the student responses received the criteria of 'Very Good'. Thus, the educational game media assisted by Genially is declared valid, practical, effective, and very good for use in improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts, contributing significantly to the enhancement of the quality of mathematics education, particularly in understanding mathematical concepts among students.

Abstract

The suboptimal application of learning models and media results in students having difficulty understanding questions, leading to low mathematical problem-solving skills. This study aims to determine the enhancement of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities through the implementation of the Make a Match model supported by KENYANG media (Kartu Menyenangkan). This research employs the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which takes place over two cycles, with two meetings in each cycle. The stages of this research follow the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews, tests, and documentation, and the data analysis in this research incorporates both quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques The research results using the Make a Match model with the KENYANG media on angle material showed an improvement, evidenced by an average score of 67.75 in cycle I, which is categorized as sufficient. In cycle II, it increased to 78.67, categorized as good. The percentage of classical completeness improved from 50% in cycle I to 80% in cycle II. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Make a Match model using KENYANG media can enhance the mathematical problem-solving skills of fifth-grade students at SD 3 Undaan Lor. This research provides benefits for improving students' mathematical problem-solving skills on the angle material in fifth grade

Abstract

The background of this research is based on the results of a preliminary study and interviews with mathematics teachers at one of Bandung's public junior high schools where students' mathematical problem-solving abilities still need to be improved. This study aims to determine the difference in improvement between the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who use the Carousel Feedback model and those who use the conventional model. This type of research is a quasi-experimental study. The population in this study were all students of class VIII. The sample in the study was taken from 2 classes using random sampling techniques, namely VIII C as the experimental class with 32 students, and class VIII B as the control class with 32 students. The data collection technique used a test device. The data analysis technique used a two-average test. If  is normally distributed and has a homogeneous variance, it is continued with an independent t-test. This study concluded that there is a difference in the improvement of mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who use the Carousel Feedback Learning Model with students who use the conventional learning model because the  value is greater than the  value. So  is rejected, meaning there is a difference in the increase in mathematical problem-solving abilities between students who use Carousel Feedback learning and students who use conventional learning

Abstract

Mathematics is a subject that is often considered difficult to learn and teach, especially arithmetic operations on integers. This material plays an important role because it is a basic concept that students must master as a foundation for learning subsequent mathematics materials. However, in reality, many students at the junior high school (SMP) level experience difficulties in understanding this material. One of the causes is the use of inappropriate learning media. To overcome this problem, researchers developed an innovation in the form of ZUZO learning e-media that integrates local culture by utilizing traditional Palembang cake as a learning illustration medium. This study aims to determine the level of validity of ZUZO learning e-media based on traditional Palembang cake. The research subjects were 20 respondents from grade VII junior high school students at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. The e-media development process refers to the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) Development and Research model, but this study was limited to the product development stage. In the analysis stage, researchers conducted direct observations in the field to identify difficulties experienced by students and found that the learning media used was not yet effective. Based on these findings, researchers designed an initial design of learning media that was relevant to students' needs. During the development phase, the ZUZO e-learning media design, based on traditional Palembang cake, was realized using interactive technology. This product was then validated by experts. The validation results showed that the ZUZO e-learning media met the "very valid" criteria. It is suitable for use as a teaching aid for integer arithmetic operations in junior high schools due to its content, appearance, and presentation.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the subjects that plays an important role in training students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. However, in practice, many students experience difficulties, especially when faced with story problems that require the ability to understand the context and translate it into a mathematical model. This study aims to analyze students' difficulties in solving word problems on the subject of Two-Variable Linear Equation Systems (SPLDV) based on Polya's problem-solving stages. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with 26 ninth-grade students from SMP Negeri 27 Medan as subjects. The research instrument was a written test on SPLDV story problems and was analyzed using Polya's stages, namely understanding the problem, devising a plan, implementing the plan, and checking the results. The results showed that students experienced difficulties at almost every stage. At the stage of understanding the problem, some students failed to identify important information and determine the variables correctly. In the planning stage, many students had difficulty converting the story problems into a system of linear equations. In the execution stage, errors mainly occurred in calculation operations and the application of the elimination and substitution methods. Meanwhile, in the checking stage, most students were unable to relate the solution to the context of the problem and rarely verified their answers. These findings confirm that students' difficulties are systematic, whereby failure at one stage has an impact on the next stage. Therefore, teachers need to emphasize problem-based learning by providing systematic exercises, accustoming students to verification, and training mathematical representation skills so that students are able to minimize errors in solving SPLDV story problems.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the subjects that students consider difficult and less interesting. This can be due to the lack of variety and learning models as well as the proper integration of learning media. One of the impacts of this is the low mathematical problem-solving ability of students. Therefore, this study was conducted to see whether the discovery learning model assisted by the GeoGebra application has an effect on the ability to solve mathematical problems for students in class X of Prayatna Private High School Medan T.A 2024/2025. The research method used was Quasi Experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample determined by random sampling consisted of two classes, the first using discovery learning with the help of GeoGebra and the second using direct learning. Data was collected through instruments in the form of pretest and posttest. A comparative analysis of two independent groups using a t-test found that the discovery learning model assisted by the GeoGebra application had a significant effect on the mathematical problem-solving ability of students. In addition, the average score of the experimental class (83.83) was higher than that of the control class (76.66) and the average N-Gain score of the experimental class (75.70) was higher than that of the control class (54.09), showing that the discovery learning model assisted by the GeoGebra application not only had a significant effect but also improved the mathematical problem-solving skills of students. In addition, there is an increase in students' mathematics learning where students become active in the learning process and easily understand the teaching material

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the critical thinking skills of high school students based on a systematic literature review of a number of studies both nationally and internationally. The approach taken is a literature review, selecting 15 relevant articles published between 2012 and 2024 that measure critical thinking skills using indicators proposed by Facione, Ennis, or similar frameworks. The findings of this study indicate that, in general, high school students' critical thinking skills fall into the low to moderate category, particularly with weaknesses evident in evaluation and inference indicators. Internal factors such as motivation, self-confidence, and metacognitive skills, as well as external factors including learning models, school atmosphere, and the quality of questions posed by teachers, have a significant influence on the achievement of these skills. Active learning methods such as Problem-Based Learning, Argument-Driven Inquiry, STEM-based learning, and the use of Open Educational Resources have proven to effectively enhance critical thinking skills. For future research, it is recommended to test combinations of active learning methods with educational technology and conduct longitudinal studies to monitor the continuous development of these skills.
