Abstract

This article focuses on the acculturation of Islamic culture and local culture in the Bergendang tradition. The purpose of writing this article is to preserve the traditions that have been carried out by the Rantau Panjang Malay community in order to introduce them to the public. The approach and theoretical framework used in this research is the cultural anthropology approach and acculturation theory with a functional approach. Meanwhile, the methods used are ethnographic methods and phenomenological methods. From this research, it can be found that the background to the emergence of the Drumming tradition in Kampung Rantau Panjang is related to the absence of entertainment in ancient times, encouraging the people to create offerings to fill their free time and provide entertainment. In this case, previous people started the tradition of drumming by tapping on used boards and it produced different sounds and could arouse people's interest in dancing to the sound of used boards being hit. The developments and changes that have occurred have helped the Bergendang tradition continue to be in demand by every level of society. Even though some structures have changed, this traditional entertainment still maintains the elements and rules of the event. Apart from that, Islamic values have become the spirit of various aspects in the implementation of the Bergendang tradition. Then, the majority of the people of Kampung Rantau Panjang responded to the implementation of the Bergendang tradition with a positive response. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of the residents when carrying out this tradition.

Abstract

The Arab nation is broadly divided into two parts, namely the population living in villages and the population living in cities. The livelihood of the rural population is mostly livestock, while the livelihood of the city dwellers is trading in the market. This study aims to explore the various livelihoods of Arab society from the pre-Islamic era to the arrival of Islam. This study is a literature review with a sociological approach and uses historical research methods with four main stages in techniques and data analysis. The four stages are heuristics for data collection, verification to assess the validity of sources, interpretation to analyze the meaning of data, and historiography to compile research results narratively. The results of this study indicate that the livelihoods of pre-Islamic Arab society are divided into two, namely rural communities (Bedouin) and urban communities. In the Badui community they hunt for daily food needs besides that they also farm, while for urban communities the work done is trading after the arrival of Islam the work of the community is still the same plus carpentry, and mining during the time of the Prophet to Khulafa al rasyidin and modern work is becoming a translator, writer, soldier and state administration during the Islamic dynasties.

Abstract

The mass migration of Ethiopian Jews to Israel through mass evacuation occurred between 1984 and 1985. In 1984, hundreds of thousands to millions of Ethiopians fled to Sudan due to famine, persecution, and civil war that occurred in Ethiopia. This study focuses on answering the question of why the Israeli government is willing to accept the presence of Ethiopian Jews and how Israel conducts its intelligence operations in the midst of unfriendly countries. This study uses a historical method that focuses on the analysis of primary and secondary sources through four stages, namely Heuristics, Verification, Interpretation and Historiography. This study can be found that the Ethiopian Jewish Community is an ancient Jewish group that has inhabited Ethiopia for thousands of years. They are also called the Beta Israel (House of Israel) or Falasha (foreigners). The civil war, drought and discrimination experienced by Ethiopian Jews in the 1980s forced some of them to flee to Sudan and find a way to get to Israel. Likewise, the common identity has made the Israeli government willing to accept the presence of Ethiopian Jews in its country. Through intelligence and diplomacy facilitated by the United States, the Israeli government finally succeeded in bringing Ethiopian Jews to Israel from Sudan.

Abstract

The process of Islamization in the Kedatuan Suppa in the 17 century AD took place through various channels, not only influenced by trading activities and the arrival of preachers from outside, but also by the central role of the palace, especially Datu We Passulle Daeng Bulaeng. This research aims to examine how Islam was integrated into the governmental structure and the social life of the Suppa community at that time. By using the historical method which consists of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, as well as historiography and an anthropological-sociological approach, this research studies the role of the palace in institutionalizing Islam through the establishment of Parewa Syara’ as well as the alignment of Bugis customs with the values of sharia. The results of the research show that Islam did not completely replace customs, but rather carried out a process of acculturation with local values that were in accordance with the principle of tawhid. This transformation is evident in governance, religious practices, and life rituals such as birth, marriage, and death. Overall, Islam appeared as a normative and cultural force that strengthened the socio-political order of the Kedatuan Suppa in an adaptive and transformative manner.

Abstract

The codification of hadith in early Islam has received limited attention as a foundational stage in developing a systematic and institutionalized Islamic legal system. Most studies focus on the Abbasid period, whereas the Umayyad Caliphate played a crucial role in the transition from oral traditions to written law. This article analyzes the role of hadith codification as a foundation of early Islamic law, particularly through the contributions of key figures such as Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz and Imam al-Zuhri. This study employs a qualitative-historical approach combined with library research, using content analysis to identify main themes, codification patterns, and political-legal strategies. The historical approach examines the socio-political and legal context of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz’s reign, while library research draws on primary sources, such as classical hadith collections and historical chronicles, alongside secondary academic literature. Findings indicate that hadith codification under Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz marked a pivotal transformation of Islamic law from oral and localized forms to a written, standardized, and transregional structure. Beyond preventing forged hadith, codification functioned as a political strategy to unify legal authority and laid the groundwork for legal methodologies that shaped classical Islamic legal traditions.
