Abstract

Social media provides various ways of communicating that are short but easy to understand and very fast in the global, this allows students of SMA Muhammadiyah Maumere to easily connect with peers and family in various parts of the world easily. This study shows that there are still many shortcomings in understanding the negative impacts of social media use, such as reduced family interaction and increased risk of negative behavior among the younger generation. Therefore, research using a systematic approach in reviewing the literature needs to be focused on identifying effective strategies to overcome the negative impacts of social media, as well as exploring the potential of social media as a positive tool to strengthen interpersonal relationships among the Generation. The main objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the influence of social media on communication patterns and social relationships of the Generation, as well as identify strategies that can help them manage their use of social media in a healthier and more productive way. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive research type. The findings are that most teenagers at SMA Muhammadiyah Maumere have Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and online game accounts to interact and communicate with others. The use of social media as a place to find friends and information. One form of media from social media is the formation of networks between teenagers. The network that is built does not only expand friendships or followers in cyberspace, but must also be built with interactions between teenagers. Interactions that occur on social media are in the form of commenting on each other or giving likes. The implications of the research are that social media can have positive and negative effects.or giving likes. Abstract

This research, titled "Analysis of Role-Playing Strategies on Students' Speaking Skills in Grade XI of Madrasah Aliyah Ponpes Tahfidz Al-Faiz Tembung," is motivated by the students' learning outcomes that show limitations in speaking skills in Indonesian language subjects. Learning activities that take place in the classroom are often limited to listening and lecturing activities, even though the curriculum demands that students have higher-order thinking (HOT) skills such as analysis and discussion. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with research subjects consisting of teachers and students. Data collection was carried out through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. This research aims to analyze: (1) the implementation of role-playing strategies in improving students' speaking skills, (2) the assessment of Indonesian language learning outcomes using this strategy, and (3) the supporting and inhibiting factors in using role-playing strategies. The results of the research show that the implementation of learning with role-playing strategies successfully increased students' competence and learning activity, especially in channeling ideas and opinions. The main supporting factors include teacher involvement, students' mastery of the material, and the use of relevant textbooks, including drama scripts and performance videos. Conversely, the inhibiting factors are students' shyness when role-playing and lack of mastery of the material. Based on the findings of this research, role-playing strategies are suitable to be implemented by teachers as a solution to improve the quality of learning in Indonesian language subjects.

Abstract

Storytelling is an effective learning method in teaching recount text because it can improve students' language skills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using storytelling as a creative media in learning recount text at SMK Negeri 5 Pekanbaru. The method used in this study is a literature study by analyzing various journals as the main source of data. The results of the study indicate that storytelling contributes positively to improving students' understanding of the structure and content of recount texts. In addition, this method helps enrich students' vocabulary and improve their speaking and writing skills in English. Thus, storytelling can be used as an innovative alternative in teaching recount texts to create more interesting and interactive learning. The implication of this study is the need to develop more varied storytelling strategies so that learning outcomes are more optimal.

Abstract

This research uses qualitative research methods with Roland Barthes Semiotics theory with data on the lyrics of the song “Duration” by Feby Putri which dissects signs in two levels: denotation and connotation, as well as the myths contained in the song text. The main data source in this research is the lyrics of the song “Duration” which is accessed by YouTube on the official Feby Putri NC account, while secondary data is obtained from the website article www.RRI.co.id, music reviews and a podcast entitled “Feby Putri surgical song Duration with Indra Aziz |Dalem banget” on the youtube account VokalPlus by Indra Aziz. The data collection technique was done through documentation. The results showed that denotatively, the lyrics of this song describe the feelings of someone who realizes that being together with the person he loves has a time limit, whether due to circumstances, fate, or changing feelings. Connotatively, this song represents Feby's life story as an overseas child feeling lonely overseas when he returned to his hometown he found significant changes in his family, especially his mother who was getting older. Meanwhile, at the mythical level, this song reflects Indonesian cultural values about the importance of returning to one's hometown because family and loved ones are something very valuable, moments together must be utilized as well as possible because time keeps running and will never be repeated. Thus, the lyrics of Durasi are not just a melancholic song, but also a symbol of universal life reflections that are relevant to many individuals.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the thoughts of the concept of maqasid shari'ah of Ibn Ashur and its urgency as a basis for conducting ijtihad in the contemporary era. This study uses a library research method with a descriptive and interpretive analysis approach. This study found that Ibn Ashur in the context of understanding maqasid shari'ah offers two methodologies, the first with a text analysis approach and the second by analyzing legal motives. While in the context of ijtihad Ibn Ashur offers five key items that must be understood by a mujtahid, the first is to understand the lafaz in terms of language use and sharia. The second is to make a legal analogy that does not have explicit evidence. The third is to respond to new laws, the fourth is to analyze evidence that appears to be contrasting in terms of zohir and the fifth is ta'abbudi.

Abstract

Feminism is a movement that fights for equality between men and women in all aspects of life, including social, political, and cultural. As one of the most influential media producers, Disney has long been criticized for presenting female characters in traditional and passive roles. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the feminist elements found in the film and how they reflect the development of gender equality values. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data taken directly from the 2025 live-action film Snow White. The analysis is supported by library research and based on Rosemarie Tong’s (2009) feminist theory, which categorizes feminism into eight types. The data is taken from several pictures, dialogues, monologues from Snow White (2025) movie and then analysis done contextually and theoretically. The findings show that the film most strongly reflects liberal feminism (35%), followed by radical and psychoanalytic feminism (24% each), with smaller portions of socialist, existentialist, and ecofeminism. The film presents Snow White not as a passive princess, but as a thoughtful and independent character who questions gender expectations and asserts her own values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the LingoDeer application as a learning medium for basic level Japanese language learners. A quantitative approach was employed using a One Group Pretest Posttest design involving 50 students from the Vocational School of IPB University. The research instrument consisted of pretest and posttest assessments focusing on three key areas: vocabulary, grammar, and reading skills. Based on the results of the paired sample t-test, a significant improvement was found in all aspects after the use of the application, with the average score increasing from 60.97% to 81.25%. The greatest improvement was observed in vocabulary, followed by reading and grammar. These findings suggest that LingoDeer, with its structured learning system, spaced repetition feature, and interactive exercises, can effectively support the development of Japanese language skills at the beginner level. This study is expected to serve as a reference for educators in selecting appropriate technology-based learning tools to enhance language acquisition.

Abstract

From past to present, masculinity has continuously shaped how men are expected to behave in society, especially in adolescence. The television series Adolescence highlights these expectations by portraying different male characters in their daily interactions, reflecting how masculinity operates in real life. This study aims to explore the types of masculinity displayed in the series based on R.W. Connell’s theory (2005), which classifies masculinity into hegemonic, complicit, subordinate, and marginalized types. The research applies a qualitative descriptive method to examine social realities through selected dialogues and scenes. The findings reveal that hegemonic masculinity (64%) is the most frequently represented form, where dominance, toughness, and emotional restraint are highlighted as masculine ideals. Subordinate masculinity (27%) follows, showing that expressions such as emotional openness or queerness are still viewed as less masculine. Marginalized masculinity (9%) appears in contexts involving race and class, while complicit masculinity (5%) is rarely shown, suggesting that most characters either fully embody or struggle against dominant norms. The data shows how the media continues to uphold hegemonic masculinity while only subtly acknowledging its alternatives, offering insight into the gender dynamics experienced by teenage boys today.

Abstract

Sarcasm is often used in movies to create humor, but it can also show deeper emotions like anger, disappointment, or hidden criticism. In the movie Avengers: Endgame, sarcasm is used by many characters to express their feelings and relationships in a funny but meaningful way. This research aims to analyze how sarcasm is used in the movie and to identify which types of sarcasm appear the most. The researcher used Elisabeth Camp’s theory, which divides sarcasm into four types: propositional, lexical, like prefixed, and illocutionary sarcasm. The method used is descriptive qualitative, by watching the movie, collecting sarcastic dialogues, and analyzing them based on the theory. The result shows that propositional sarcasm is the most used (43%), followed by lexical sarcasm (36%), illocutionary sarcasm (14%), and like-prefixed sarcasm (7%). From these findings, it can be concluded that sarcasm in Avengers: Endgame is not only for jokes but also helps to express the characters’ emotions, conflicts, and closeness, making the dialogue more interesting and meaningful for the audience.

Abstract

This study was aimed to look into students’ perception of using English movie in increasing listening skills. This study was quantitative research with using survey design. The survey was a way to collect the data how students perceived the use of English movie in listening classroom. Ten questionnaires were distributed to 28 students of second grade level at Lab School Unsyiah. The obtained data was analyzed descriptively based on students’ frequency. The result of this study showed majority of students felt positive with the use of English movie in developing the listening ability. The use of English movie in listening class assist students to learn and understand the speaker are saying. Therefore, the use of English movie was the preference media in learning English particularly to improve students’ listening skills.
