Abstract

Shakespeare's sonnets are renowned for their profound use of rich metaphors and sophisticated language to explore human emotions and experiences. In three well-known sonnets—"Sonnet 18" ("Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day?"), "Sonnet 130" ("My Mistress' Eyes are Nothing Like the Sun"), and "Sonnet 116" ("Let Me Not to the Marriage of True Minds"—this article explores Shakespeare's use of figurative language. Shakespeare's use of metaphors, imagery, and personalization is thoroughly examined in this research using Rasinger's analytical method, revealing the many meanings and feelings that these works contain. Shakespeare's writing prowess and his ongoing relevance in examining the complexity of human existence are highlighted in this article through a thorough examination and comparison of various literary devices

Abstract

Poetry is one of the old literary genres that developed in the archipelago, including in the Malay region of Riau. This study aims to analyze and compare the themes and writing styles contained in Riau Malay poems with Malay poems from other regions. Using a content analysis approach, this study examines a number of Riau Malay poetry and Malay poetry from other regions to explore the themes raised and the writing style used. The results of the study show that Riau Malay poetry and other Malay poetry have similarities in raising certain themes such as advice, heroic stories, and love. However, there are differences in the emphasis on themes and the use of language styles. Riau Malay poetry tends to emphasize more on the aspect of Islamic advice and values, while other Malay poetry explores more themes of love and heroism. In terms of writing style, Riau Malay poems tend to use a simpler and more understandable language, while other Malay poems often use a more poetic and metaphorical language style. This research contributes to enriching the understanding of the richness of the archipelago's old literary treasures, especially Malay poetry, as well as the differences and uniqueness of poems from various regions.

Abstract

This research entitled Slang words and Contextualization in Venom: Let There Be Carnage Movie, aimed to discuss the types of slang words and the contextualization the use of the slang word in the movie. The undergraduate thesis analysed the used of slang words in the conversations regarding the types and the contextualization of slang words. This research used the theory types of slang proposed by Allan and Burridge (2006) and the theory contextualization of slang proposed by Gumperz (1992) for the main theory. For the supporting theory used theory of sociolinguistics by Un Nisa (2019). The data of this study are from the utterances, words, and conversation occurred in the movie, in the form of slang words uttered by the characters dialogues. The analysed was use descriptive qualitative method. The results found that there were 5 slang words in the movie types and contextualization of slang, namely: Fresh and Creative, Flippant, Imitate, Acronym and Clipping. The result after analysing the movie, there were fourty six data in types and contextualization of slang. In the types and contextualization of slang, the highest type was flippant slang type and the lowest was acronym type.

Abstract

Literary works are creations written with the aim of conveying an aesthetic impression. Literary works can take the form of prose, poetry, or drama. To make poetry more beautiful and easier to understand, a writer needs to understand the rules for creating good poetry. This research aims to analyze the various types of figurative language found in William Shakespeare's poem titled "Let Me Not to the Marriage of True Minds." The research focuses on the analysis of figurative language used in the poem. The objective is to identify the types of figurative language and understand their functions within the poem. The results of this study reveal that there are three types of figurative language found in the poem: metaphor, personification, and hyperbole.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to enhance students' English speaking skills through interview simulation techniques with job application material, making them more active. This research uses experimental techniques that combined with quantitative research techniques through direct speaking tests. The research questions considered in this study are: What are interview simulation techniques effective in enhancing students' English speaking skills? How can interview simulation techniques enhance students' English speaking skills? The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of interview simulation techniques in improving students' English language skills. To assess student results regarding the use of interview simulation techniques in teaching speaking to enhance abilities. This research method consists of pre-test, treatment, post-test. The analytical methods used for data processing are included in Social Science Statistics 22.0 for Windows. The result was that before applying the interview simulation technique, only 50% of students were able to speak English. After applying the interview simulation technique, it increased students' ability to speak English by 80%. Analysis of student test results shows that the interview simulation technique is effective in enhancing students' English speaking skills. Applying simulation techniques in learning English, especially speaking, is the right strategy to enhance students' skills.

Abstract

This research examines how many basic sentence patterns there are in Ile Ape Dialect of Lamaholot Language, and what are the basic sentence patterns in Ile Ape Dialect of Lamaholot Language. The writer employed descriptive qualitative method to analyze and describe the data in this research. The data source of this research is the native speakers of Lamaholot Language, especially for Ile Ape Dialect. In this research, the writer used two research instruments to support the process of data collection they are, interview guidelines and recording device (smartphone). The data collection techniques applied in this research consist of three (3) techniques, including audio-recording, written documents collection, and elicitation. In order to analyze the data collected, the writer used technique of transcription, sentence translation, sentence selection, sentence analysis, and data description. The result of this research shows that, there are five (5) basic sentence patterns in Ile Ape Dialect of Lamaholot Language, they are: Pattern I: Subject + Verb (S + V); Pattern II: Subject + Verb + Object (S + V + O); Pattern III: Subject + Verb + Direct Object + Indirect Object (S + V + IO + DO); Pattern IV: Subject + Verb + Object + Object Complement (S + V + O + OC); and Pattern V: Subject + Subject Complement (S + SC).

Abstract

This paper aims to show the Simple project-based learning in Teaching speaking, success. English and student attention using techniques during the learning process. quantitative data Experimentally conducted and collected using pre-study, treatment, and post-study techniques Offer multiple-choice tests before and after applying the technique. Although the data are qualitative, Utilize surveys by distributing surveys to students and teacher also conducting multiple related interviews to simple project-based learning. Only test results before applying the technique 65% of the students are proficient in speaking English, but after demonstrating The technique, it improved the student's English speaking ability to 89%. On the other hand, student analysis Studies have also shown the Simple project-based learning in Teaching Speaking techniques are effective to Improve the students' English skills. Application of Simple project-based learning Techniques in Learning For this reason, improving your English, especially your speaking skills, is the right strategy to improve your students' skills. Techniques can turn abstract concepts into reality in the classroom.

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the translation techniques used in Translating Proverbs Related to “Nebu-Nebu” from Karonese Language into English Molina and Albir’s translation techniques are applied to translate the proverbs from the source language (SL) into the target language (TL). This study is conducted by Creswell’s descriptive qualitative method. The data is taken from a book entitled Peribahasa (Kuan-KuanenKaro) which is written by Pdt. Sada Kata Ginting Suka and Pdt. Dr. Elieser Perpulungen Ginting. The finding of this study shows that in translating the proverbs, there were literal translation, modulation, amplification, linguistic amplification, description, discursive creation, established equivalent, generalization, and adaptation translation techniques are used in translating the proverbs from Karonese language into English in this study.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the perception of English education study program students at PGRI Silampari University regarding the development of their teaching skills after participating in the Kampus Mengajar program. This research used a qualitative approach in a qualitative descriptive research design. The research subjects were 15 students of the English Education Study Program at PGRI Silampari University who had participated in the Kampus Mengajar Program batches 4, 5, and 6. The data collection technique used was an open-ended questionnaire. Data obtained from the questionnaire was analyzed using three techniques, namely identification, description, and conclusion. The results of this research showed that students who took the Kampus Mengajar program were able to make good planning and preparation before teaching, present lessons that matched the desired learning outcomes, manage time well and effectively, create a positive classroom climate, enforce class discipline by setting clear and consistent rules, assess student progress properly, and reflect on and evaluate teaching well to develop future teaching skills. In conclusion, students' teaching skills increased after participating in the Kampus Mengajar Program.

Abstract

The demanding situations of the arena of training in assembly the wishes of the internet era are pretty large. This is because of their extraordinary existence experiences, particularly their enjoy in the usage of technology. The internet itself opens up many possibilities for integrating technology in classroom learning. Youtube is one of the getting to know media that may be incorporated in getting to know publications which can be taken into consideration hard with the aid of using students.. The purpose of this research is to be able to find out the benefits that can be taken from youtube for English learning media in English courses. This research is a qualitative research in which the author uses observation, question and answer (interview) and questionnaire. The results of the study show that videos on Youtube can be used as one of the learning media.
