Abstract

Indonesia, as a multi-religious country with the largest number of Muslims in the world, is a country that adheres to a democratic system of government by always holding elections. However, issues and hoaxes about religion in election contestation are often raised as topics in political campaigns, especially through social media, which have the potential to trigger conflict. At the same time, the penetration of social media use by Gen Z as novice voters can be said to be relatively high. Today, the popularity of social media YouTube for Gen Z is a priority reference for accessing information related to religion. Ironically, this phenomenon indicates the existence of a filter bubble that limits the opportunities for Gen Z's exploration of religious issues. This picture encourages researchers to find out the existence of a bubble filter of da'wah content on social media consumption—YouTube on Gen Z. Using new media, bubble filters, and da'wah content as a theoretical framework, this research uses a case study research method involving 3 informants who are Gen Z with their respective religious interests and preferences. The findings of this study reveal that the existence of bubble filters as consumption of YouTube da'wah content on Gen Z is real. Gen Z has consumed da'wah content through YouTube for an average of 1-3 hours per day so that the content history appears homogeneous (homophily). YouTube as a crucial platform for users to enhance their religious awareness has been considered an important means for users to increase faith, expand knowledge, and gain inspiration, especially through da'wah content such as short studies, Prophet stories, and short lectures. However, the filter bubble phenomenon makes users only exposed to content that matches the interests and views of social media users, thus reducing the diversity of information received. Moreover, the bubble filter can narrow perspectives and create an isolated community, where users only interact with people who share similar views, limiting opportunities for dialogue with dissenting views.

Abstract

This article examines the evolution of Da’wah practices among Generation Z in the digital era, with a focus on how social media platforms shape religious engagement and outreach. Traditional Da’wah, previously conducted in physical spaces like mosques and public gatherings, has increasingly moved to digital spaces such as TikTok and Instagram, making religious teachings more accessible and appealing to younger audiences. Utilizing a qualitative literature review approach, this study synthesizes recent research to analyze the challenges and opportunities presented by digital Da’wah. The findings suggest that digital Da’wah significantly enhances youth engagement, broadens reach, and fosters community building, especially through content that is humanistic, creative, and contextually relevant. However, the study also reveals challenges, such as the potential for misinformation and oversimplification of religious content in these new media. This article contributes to scholarly discourse by offering insights into the strategic use of digital platforms for Da’wah, highlighting how religious leaders can effectively engage Generation Z while promoting a nuanced and comprehensive understanding of Islamic teachings in a digital context. These findings underscore the need for responsible content curation and digital literacy to maintain the integrity of religious messages and address the unique needs of Generation Z.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of government priorities, oligarchic interests, and other factors that may hinder the translation of activism into concrete policy changes within the framework of alienation. The study employs a qualitative approach utilizing an unobtrusive data collection method, explicitly focusing on documentary analysis through news reports and related academic literature. The findings suggest a collective expression of discontent through social movements led by Indonesian student activists, encompassing various aspects of their lives. However, student voices are repeatedly silenced. One of the constraints is the need for more partnership between activists and the media, resulting from media conglomeration. In addition to media conglomeration, the regime's prioritization of economic development has relegated student voices to mere echoes, demonstrating that alienation occurs from multiple directions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of public relations values in cultural da'wah communication in the digital era carried out by the KiaiKanjeng music group through the CakNun.com YouTube channel. As a cultural arts group associated with Emha Ainun Nadjib (CakNun), KiaiKanjeng uses the medium of music and culture to convey inclusive, humanist, and dialogical Islamic messages. In the context of digital space, the da'wah they build is not only informative, but also forms communication relations with the public. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis techniques to identify da'wah themes, as well as media content studies to interpret symbols, visuals, and cultural meanings contained in KiaiKanjeng videos. Data was obtained from a number of videos selected with a focus on this research that highlights how public relations values such as credibility, honesty, consistency, and two-way communication are integrated in their da'wah narratives. CakNun.com's YouTube channel is positioned as a strategic medium to build a culturally friendly Islamic image, respond to contemporary issues, and strengthen emotional bonds with digital audiences. The results show that the integration of public relations values is the key to KiaiKanjeng's success in delivering relevant, communicative, and adaptive da'wah messages to a plural society in the digital era. This study contributes to the study of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting in relation to the integration of public relations values to cultural da'wah activities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of inner peace on the dynamics of conflict experienced by university students, including both intrapersonal and interpersonal conflicts. The research employed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental correlational design. A total of 82 students participated, selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 35 students residing in Islamic boarding schools and 47 non-resident students. The Inner Peace Scale, covering the aspects of acceptance of loss, inner balance and calmness, and transcending hedonism and materialism, was tested on 438 students and produced 19 valid items based on Pearson correlation validity and a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability score of 0.764. The Decisional Conflict Scale (DCS), tested on 35 students, resulted in 15 valid items with a reliability of 0.914. The Interpersonal Conflict Scale, adapted from the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode, yielded 29 valid items with a reliability of 0.932. Normality testing using the Shapiro-Wilk test confirmed normal data distribution. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that inner balance and calmness had a significant positive correlation with intrapersonal conflict (r = 0.437; p = 0.009), while acceptance of loss had a significant negative correlation with interpersonal conflict (r = -0.433; p = 0.009). The regression analysis showed that the model significantly explained intrapersonal conflict (R² = 0.361, p < 0.001), with two dimensions of inner peace having significant effects: inner balance and calmness (β = 0.665, p < 0.001) and transcending hedonism and materialism (β = -0.489, p = 0.002). For interpersonal conflict, only the acceptance of loss dimension showed a significant negative effect (β = -0.364, p = 0.033). These findings suggest an opportunity to reinforce empathic and transformative communication approaches, emphasizing both conflict resolution and the personal transformation of those involved in the conflict.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the meaning of the beseprah (bekerobok) communal eating tradition among the Kutai people in East Kalimantan, who continue to preserve local customs amid the forces of modernization. The research employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The researcher was directly involved in the community through participant observation and in-depth interviews to understand the values and symbols embedded in this cultural practice. The findings reveal that the beseprah tradition holds significant symbolic meaning in fostering togetherness, strengthening social bonds, and expressing gratitude. The shared meals reflect local wisdom and serve as a space to introduce traditional Kutai cuisine. This tradition also plays a social role by reducing class distinctions. However, its implementation faces challenges, such as limited institutional support and shifting meanings due to modern influences. Nonetheless, through cooperation among stakeholders, the core values of beseprah can still be preserved. This study contributes to academic discussions in cultural anthropology and symbolic interactionism, particularly in understanding how local traditions are maintained and reinterpreted in the modern era. The findings reinforce the importance of preserving local culture as part of national identity and as a form of resistance to global cultural homogenization. Using a symbolic interactionist lens, the research provides in-depth insights into how social interaction and symbols construct shared meanings in local traditions. It also opens a dialogue on the role of community in sustaining culture as a source of long-term social strength.
