Abstract

Efforts to spread deviant sects are now easier to reach all groups. This is due to the development of new media. Da'wah in new media can be done by anyone. One of the negative impacts of new media is the difficulty in distinguishing hoax information. In the context of spreading religious beliefs or beliefs that are considered heretical, now is the right moment. They can freely spread their ideas either with a clear identity or with a disguised identity. Communication media is used as a distribution channel as well as a tool for transformation. For this reason, this research aims to describe the mediation and mediatization of teachings or understandings that are considered heretical in new media, especially YouTube. This study used a qualitative approach with content analysis methods. The unit of analysis is a video shared by pilgrims Salamullah through the YouTube platform. Researchers perform mining data on the internet that has been available. The videos were analyzed using the multimodality method. The findings of this study are that there is a process of mediation and mediatization carried out by adherents of the Salamullah deviant sect. In the mediation process, the YouTube account is used as a channel to transmit ideas about their beliefs. As for mediation, it can be seen in the transformation of cognition in netizens. In addition, it was also found that in the user-generated media approach, cult followers become contributors or creators on their YouTube accounts. At the level of cognition, the changes in perception and negotiation of the meaning of heretical teachings can be formed. Indonesian culture which tends to accept new things will encourage adherents of heretical sects to use the media as a channel for conveying messages. It is this transformation that society and religious institutions must be aware of.

Abstract

In attempts to address issues in the realm of Islamic education, particularly at the adult community level, al-Quran literacy is frequently raised. Although adults are supposed to be reasonably literate in the Al-Quran, there is nevertheless a disconnect with the reality of societal conditions. It is important to give careful consideration to the process of teaching adults Al-Quran literacy through education. In order to provide individuals in East Kutai with an instructional communication method for Al-Quran literacy, this research attempts to do so. This study employs descriptive methodology and is classified as a qualitative study. According to the study's findings, adult education programs in Al-Quran literacy in East Kutai use persuasive, dialogic, and demonstrative communication styles. The government, social environment, and family environment all provide impetus for the Al-Quran literacy process. In terms of techniques, the iqro method is employed in the educational process to facilitate adult learners' comprehension of the Qur’an. In addition, an environment free from coercion and a feeling of community among adults without literacy in the Qur'an are supportive elements in the process of achieving Qur’an literacy. In the meantime, adult physical condition, a lack of infrastructure and support systems, and a comparatively short study period are the things impeding Al-Quran knowledge.

Abstract

Variety show Ms.Queen on the NET television station March 22, 2022 "Mang Osa Refuses to be in television show when viral", explicitly discusses that ‘ngondek’ is funny, liked, and makes someone viral and popular, which is the dream of most young people in the era of social media like now. This show is violating broadcasting ethics in Indonesia and can trigger imitation from the audience, especially children and adolescents who watch this program and have a positive interpretation for this show. From this, the researcher is interested in discussing further the matter of ‘ngondek’ men in the show to find out what discourse is actually offered by television to the audience, and how it is done. The researcher uses the critical discourse analysis technique of Sarah Mills who believes that texts are the result of negotiations between the writer and the reader. The results of this research show that there are clearly legible main actors in the text, namely the television institution (in this case the program creative team) who holds the power to determine the subject-object positions. By accepting to come at Ms.Queen, means that consciously or not, MO places himself as an object. Overall, the author of the text tries to present a woman's point of view to normalize Irfan's and MO's feminine performance which is difficult for a male point of view to accept. There is a text that is deliberately written that a man with a feminine performance is a funny, entertaining, and easily popular figure where the audience is directed to follow the same perspective. This also gives the same definition to other ‘ngondek’ men to be interpreted in the same way by the audience.

Abstract

Pondok Pesantren (traditional Islamic boarding school) is one of Indonesia's most crucial pillars supporting educational needs. As the foremost institution upholding Islamic traditions in the archipelago, pesantren is expected to remain relevant amidst the advancements of the era without forsaking its deeply rooted values and traditions. Thus, this article aims to highlight the issue of technology utilization by pondok pesantren by describing the general landscape of digital media usage in several pesantren located in the Samarinda Seberang region, as well as analyzing the perceptions of pesantren administrators regarding the utilization of digital media as a means of information dissemination and as a tool to improve the overall management of pondok pesantren institution. To undertake this research, a phenomenological approach is employed to analyze data collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation in six pondok pesantren in the Samarinda Seberang area. The findings reveal that the pondok pesantren in Samarinda Seberang are already familiar with the application of digital technology. However, this utilization remains limited to media based on images and videos. The incorporation of text-based technology is still restricted due to the lack of resources available to the pesantren.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the cancel culture phenomenon experienced by a speaker Tuan Guru Mizan Qudsiyah from Lombok NTB on YouTube in 2020. The questions in this article are what is cancel culture, how does cancel culture impact individuals and groups, how does Islamic communication view the cancel culture phenomenon, how are the implications of cancel culture on Tuan Guru Mizan Qudsiyah. This research uses qualitative methods with a case study approach and this research data is taken from YouTube and then analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu's genetic structuralism theory. The results of this study revealed that cancel culture is rejection, cancellation, and boycott carried out by netizens to eliminate the charisma of a public figure because of controversial words and actions on virtual media. Individually, cancel culture results in anxiety, stress, depression, and loss of privacy. While in groups can cause social fears that are not in accordance with the norm which eventually experience restrictions on expression. Islamic communication views the phenomenon of cancel culture in virtual media as a new parasite in carrying out the principles of Islamic communication such as justice, forgiveness, dialogue, deliberation, providing opportunities for self-improvement, compassion, empathy, tenderness, and respecting differences. As for the implications of cancel culture against Tuan Guru Mizan Qudsiyah from East Lombok on YouTube in 2020 for his statement insulting the tombs of Lombok guardians as "Sasak Language: Makam Tain Acong and Tain Acong Keramat: Dog Feces Grave and Dog Feces Sacred "which in the end he was canceled by the mob and then his Assunah Islamic boarding school in Bagek Nyaka, Aikmel District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara was attacked and burned.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has left behind a wide range of effects. As a potential future learning paradigm, one of them is the hybrid learning model. In terms of appearance during lectures, whether directly or indirectly through the use of post-COVID-19 pandemic media, this study attempts to characterize the communication ethics of generation Z students at Sebelas Maret University Vocational School in Surakarta. The quantitative descriptive method is thought to be the most appropriate approach to use in addressing the study objectives. Secondary data is derived from internal data in the education sector, publications, books, and other documentation, while primary data is collected online using semi-open questions in addition to observation. It is possible to conclude that there is a lack of good student communication ethics when it comes to appearance during online learning because not all students have turned on their cameras, not all of them are dressed collared, and not all of them follow the dress code that has been established in accordance with previous agreements in a number of courses.

Abstract

As one of the Penta Helix elements in crisis management, Muhammadiyah conducted humanitarian efforts throughout the pandemic, notably in East Kalimantan, through the Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center (MCCC). As a collective humanitarian memory of East Kalimantan during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, this study attempts to present an overview of all the volunteer activities conducted by MCCC in Balikpapan and Samarinda during the pandemic. Descriptive analysis and qualitative technique are utilized in this study. To gather primary data, two informants from Balikpapan and four informants from Samarinda were interviewed. Secondary data came from reporting documents from the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) in East Kalimantan, which were located through a Google search for pertinent terms. The following are the study's findings: (1) In Balikpapan and Samarinda, MCCC volunteers took part in emergency response and disaster risk mitigation operations. (2) They give medical aid, apply disinfectants, and conduct out programs related to food security. (3) They go a long way to help others. They are all living examples of that since they have all survived COVID. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, one individual was hospitalized, others were forced to self-isolate, and there were no reports in the media about any philanthropic activities. In conclusion, as volunteers are at high danger during the COVID-19 pandemic, their goodness cannot be questioned.
