Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the learning outcomes of students in grade V of SD Inpres Bontoloe, Bontolempangan District, Gowa Regency. This study is an experimental study. It was conducted at SD Inpres Bontoloe, Bontolempangan District, Gowa Regency, with the research subjects being grade V students. This study was conducted for approximately 2 months. The data collection techniques used in this study were tests and documentation. However, before the data was analyzed, a prerequisite analysis test was first carried out, namely the normality test and the homogeneity test. The results of the study concluded that there was an effect of the use of the problem based learning model on students' learning outcomes in science. Based on the results of the average value (mean) shows that students' learning outcomes before being given treatment were 76 while the average value of students' learning outcomes after being given treatment was 97.5. In addition, from the results of the t-test, it was known that the calculated t value obtained was 34.013, which was smaller than the t-table value of 1.724. Because t count > t table, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that the use of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model can influence and improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine whether there is an influence o the school literacy program on the review text reading skilsso grade VIII students at SMP N 1 Botupingge in the 2023/2024 academic year, as well as to determine the inhibiting factors and supporting factors o the school literacy program on the review teks reading skiils of grade VIII students at SMP N 1 Botupinggein the 2023/2024 academic year. This study used a quantitative method and a pretest-posttest control group design. The result s o the study show that score of tcount > ttable or 2,082 > 1,677 then H0 rejected this mean that Ha is accepted thus, it can be concluded that there is a signiicant positive influence on student‘ review text reading skiil using the literacy program, which is higher compared to using conventional methods. The supporting factors or the implementasion of the literacy program include the availability of appropriate materials, while the inhibiting actors include time constraints, lack o book collection and lowreading interest.

Abstract

Membaca merupakan keterampilan fundamental dalam pembelajaran dan pengembangan pengetahuan. Program Klinik Literasi di SMPN 2 Suwawa dirancang untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca dan minat baca siswa kelas VII yang mengalami kesulitan literasi. Pengabdian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode pengumpulan data melalui observasi partisipan, wawancara mendalam dengan guru dan siswa, serta dokumentasi kegiatan. Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia Universitas Negeri Gorontalo berperan sebagai fasilitator utama dalam program pendampingan individual dan kelompok. Hasil implementasi program menunjukkan bahwa melalui intervensi terstruktur seperti pengenalan huruf, latihan membaca bertahap, dan penggunaan teks kontekstual, terjadi peningkatan signifikan pada kelancaran membaca (45% siswa mengalami peningkatan 2 level membaca), pemahaman teks, dan minat baca siswa. Evaluasi program mengungkapkan bahwa pendekatan personal dan integrasi aktivitas menyenangkan berhasil menurunkan kecemasan siswa terhadap kegiatan membaca. Program ini efektif mengatasi tantangan literasi dasar dan direkomendasikan untuk dikembangkan secara berkelanjutan dengan melibatkan lebih banyak pemangku kepentingan dalam memperkuat budaya literasi di sekolah.

Abstract

Dementia is often called senility which is not a normal part of aging, which needs special attention because it has a broad impact on the physical condition, well-being of the elderly and their families. This study aims to determine the relationship between age, gender, and education with the level of dementia in the elderly. This research method is quantitative analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was the elderly with dementia as many as 48 samples using the purposive sampling method. The study was conducted on May 1 - May 30, 2025 at the Harapan Kita nursing home in Palembang City. The results showed a significant relationship between age (p = 0.001), gender (p = 0.016), and education level (p = 0.026) with the level of dementia in the elderly at the Harapan Kita Nursing Home in Palembang. It is recommended that nursing homes improve monitoring of dementia risk factors, and further researchers can examine other variables such as medical history and lifestyle to obtain a more comprehensive picture.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (pulmonary TB) is a chronic infectious disease that not only affects the respiratory system, but can also interfere with children's growth and development. TB infection in children is at risk of causing physical growth disorders such as decreased weight and height, as well as delayed cognitive development. This study aims to analyze the impact of pulmonary tuberculosis on the physical and cognitive development of children at the Sematang Borang Community Health Center, Palembang City. This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 28 children diagnosed with pulmonary TB and met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through observation and questionnaires, then analyzed univariately using the SPSS version 25 program. The results showed that the average age of respondents was 10.32 years. The average weight was 28.72 kg and height was 132.29 cm. All respondents were confirmed to have pulmonary TB (100%). The average cognitive development score was 1.75, indicating that most children were in the "starting to develop" category. This finding indicates that pulmonary TB has an impact on the decline in nutritional status and delays in cognitive development in children. Pulmonary TB has a real impact on the physical and cognitive development of children.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks the joints and often causes persistent pain. This pain can interfere with daily activities and reduce the quality of life of patients. The level of knowledge and type of occupation are thought to play a role in the perception and intensity of pain experienced. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge level and type of occupation with pain frequency among rheumatoid arthritis patients in the working area of Sungai Lumpur Public Health Center, Cengal Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The research design was analytic quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. A total sampling technique was applied, consisting of 44 respondents. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test to examine the relationship between variables. The majority of respondents had a low level of knowledge (59.1%) and worked as fishermen (68.2%). As many as 90.9% of respondents reported frequent pain. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge level and pain frequency (ρ = 0.001), as well as between type of occupation and pain frequency (ρ = 0.003). The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between knowledge level and type of occupation with pain intensity in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Abstract

Preschool-aged children are those between 3 and 6 years old. At this age, children are very active and often engage in various activities, but their immune systems are still not fully developed. As a result, they are more susceptible to illness and may need to undergo hospital procedures, known as hospitalization. Hospitalization often causes fear in children and can trigger anxiety. If this anxiety is not addressed, it can have negative effects and hinder the child’s care process in the hospital. Storytelling is one method that can be used to help reduce anxiety in children. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of storytelling intervention on the anxiety levels of preschool-aged children undergoing hospitalization. Methods: This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test on 32 respondents. Results: The results showed a p-value of 0.001 < α 0.05. The mean anxiety level before the storytelling intervention was 49.5, which decreased to 33 after the intervention. This indicates a reduction in anxiety levels among preschool-aged children following the storytelling intervention.

Abstract

Deep breathing relaxation is one of the non-pharmacological interventions that can be used to help stabilize emotions and lower blood pressure by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system. Therefore, this study focuses on the Effectiveness of Deep Breathing Relaxation on Emotional Stability and Blood Pressure in Patients with Mental Disorders and Hypertension in the Inpatient Ward of Ernaldi Bahar Hospital, South Sumatra Province. This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample was given a pretest (initial observation), followed by the intervention, and then a posttest (final observation). The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant effect on both systolic and diastolic blood pressure and emotional stability at 0.000 (p value = 0.000 < 0.05), indicating that this technique is effective in improving emotional stability and lowering blood pressure. Deep breathing relaxation can be independently practiced by patients during hospitalization or after discharge and can serve as a part of non-pharmacological nursing interventions.

Abstract

Smoking among adolescents, especially males, is often triggered by high levels of stress and is perceived as a coping mechanism to deal with pressure. This study aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and the tendency to smoke among male adolescents at SMK Negeri 3 Palembang in 2025. This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 61 male adolescents selected using a total sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was the Perceived Stress Scale (Sheldon Cohen, 1983), modified by Yolanda Faradila (2020). The results showed that most participants experienced moderate stress (49.2%), followed by mild stress (41.0%), and severe stress (9.8%). Similarly, the tendency to smoke was highest in the moderate category (49.2%), followed by mild (41.0%), and severe (9.8%). The findings revealed a significant relationship between stress levels and smoking tendencies among male adolescents at SMK Negeri 3 Palembang, with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). This indicates that the higher the stress level experienced by adolescents, the greater their tendency to smoke. In this context, smoking acts as a form of negative coping mechanism used by adolescents to handle the stress they face.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity focuses on free book distribution activities that are collaborated with book introduction activities through interactive games. This activity aims to support the literacy program that has been launched in the school environment for 15 minutes before lessons begin so that students' literacy skills are better, so it is better to start from home because students have more time at home. The methods used in this activity are demonstration methods and participatory methods that can increase students' sense of ownership and responsibility for the process and results of the activity. This activity succeeded in increasing the interest in literacy and basic understanding of mathematics of elementary school students through the provision of educational books and interactive games based on local wisdom.
