Abstract

General Background: Soybean dregs, a by-product of soybean juice processing, are typically regarded as waste, despite their nutritional potential. Specific Background: In Randegan Village, local UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) have begun utilizing soybean dregs to create innovative products, such as brownies, offering a healthier alternative to conventional baked goods. Knowledge Gap: Despite the environmental and economic benefits, limited research has been conducted on the processing techniques, challenges, and broader impacts of using soybean dregs in food production within small-scale industries. Aims: This study aims to explore the innovation process of transforming soybean dregs into brownies, examining the production methods, nutritional benefits, challenges faced by UMKM, and the resulting economic and social impact on the local community. Results: The findings indicate that this innovation not only reduces waste but also increases the value of soybean dregs by converting them into high-nutrition brownies. The initiative has enhanced community empowerment, boosted local income, and decreased unemployment in Randegan. Novelty: This research highlights the transformation of an underutilized waste product into a marketable and health-conscious food product, filling a gap in the literature on sustainable waste utilization in food production. Implications: The study provides practical recommendations for further developing UMKM in rural areas and promotes the adoption of soybean dregs as a resource for local economic growth. Furthermore, it offers insights for policymakers on the benefits of integrating waste-to-product innovations into regional development strategies.

Abstract

General background: Disaster literacy is crucial in equipping students with knowledge and preparedness for disaster risk reduction. Specific background: Previous educational approaches to disaster mitigation often lack engaging and interactive methods, which may reduce students' motivation to learn about disaster preparedness. Knowledge gap: Despite the significance of disaster education, there is a need for innovative approaches that effectively convey disaster mitigation concepts in a way that captivates students' interest. Aims: This community service program aims to enhance disaster literacy through the implementation of a disaster mitigation card game, "Camibee," an adaptation of the Monopoly game, which encourages active learning and critical thinking among high school students. Results: The program demonstrated that the game-based learning method, particularly using the Camibee card game, significantly increased student engagement and understanding of disaster mitigation concepts. Students were enthusiastic, which translated into improved motivation to learn about disaster risk reduction. Novelty: This study presents a novel approach by integrating a competitive, enjoyable board game with educational content on disaster mitigation, providing an alternative to traditional disaster literacy education. Implications: The program contributes to the development of effective disaster education strategies that not only enhance students' disaster preparedness but also foster active participation and awareness. The findings suggest that this game-based approach could be widely applied in disaster education to improve literacy and preparedness in schools, empowering students to become agents of change in disaster risk management.

Abstract

General Background: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are vital to economic development, yet many face challenges in expanding their market reach. Specific Background: The Puli Cracker MSME, owned by Mrs. Makilah, exemplifies this challenge, as it primarily relies on local orders without strategies for broader market expansion. Knowledge Gap: A lack of business development skills, particularly in product packaging, branding, and certification, hinders the potential growth of many small businesses like Mrs. Makilah's. Aims: This community service project aims to assist the Puli Cracker MSME in creating packaging stickers, improving product packaging, and obtaining halal certification to enable market expansion beyond the local community. Results: Through interviews and observations, the project identified key areas for improvement, including product labeling, packaging redesign, and halal certification registration. The implementation stages included creating packaging stickers, repackaging the crackers, and fulfilling halal certification requirements, all of which positively impacted the business. Novelty: The project introduced a structured, step-by-step approach to MSME development, combining product enhancement with halal certification, which is often overlooked in small-scale enterprises. Implications: The improvements in packaging and branding, along with the halal certification, are expected to significantly enhance the marketability and credibility of Mrs. Makilah’s Puli Cracker, allowing it to reach a wider market. These interventions provide a replicable model for other MSMEs aiming to grow sustainably and expand their market share.
