Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by the Dengue Virus (DENV), transmitted through the Aedes spp. Examination of hematocrit levels and platelet counts can support the diagnosis of DHF. Early detection is needed to predict the severity and determine the appropriate management of DHF, to reduce the mortality rate due to DHF. It was knowing the relationship between hematocrit and platelet levels with the severity of dengue hemorrhagic fever in RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus 2020-2021. Analytical observational research with sampling technique using total sampling. The data of this study were taken from the medical records of patients diagnosed with DHF and then analyzed using the Rank Spearman correlation test. The sample in this study amounted to 52 patients. Patients' hematocrit levels were within normal limits in 19 male patients (36.6%) and 20 female patients (38%). The patient platelet count <100,000/mm3 was found in 32 patients (61.5%). The results of Spearman's Rank analysis between hematocrit and the severity of DHF were p = 0.072 and r = 0.252, while between the number of platelets and the severity of DHF were p = 0.581 and r = -0.078. There is no relationship between hematocrit and platelet levels and dengue hemorrhagic fever severity.

Abstract

Various demands based on competence result in a lot of stress for medical students which is relatively greater when compared to students in other faculties, resulting in frequent stress for the medical students. College students have the potential to experience stress which results in disrupted sleep quality. This study used an analytic observational method with a cross-sectional design. The sample used amounted to 192 respondents. The data were then analyzed using Kendall's Tau with a significance value (<0.05). Sampling was carried out using Simple Random Sampling technique, by looking at the results of data collection using DASS-42 questionnaire to see stress levels and PSQI questionnaire to see sleep quality. The results of this study indicate that of the 192 samples found normal stress levels were 81 (42.2%), mild stress levels 49 (25.5%), moderate stress 35 (18.2%), severe stress 24 (12, 5%), and very severe 3 (1.6%). Meanwhile, the results showed that 176 (91.7%) had poor sleep quality and 16 (8.3%) had good sleep quality. Based on the results of the analysis, it shows that there is a significant relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in preclinic students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Palangka Raya with a closeness value is in moderate category.

Abstract

Concentration is centralization of the mind, motivation towards something with the addition of feeling worried, depressed, and panic so as not to hinder one's readiness. One of the factors that make it difficult to concentrate is the quality of sleep. Students can experience concentration problems, especially medical students because of the limited quality and quantity of sleep. Therefore, researchers are interested in conducting research on the relationship between sleep quality and concentration in preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Palangka Raya. This study used an analytic observation method with a cross-sectional design. The research sample was 212 preclinical students in 2019, 2020 and 2021 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sampling technique with proportionate stratified random sampling. The instruments in this study were the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire to assess sleep quality and the Stroop Test to assess concentration. This study showed that out of 212 samples, 55 people had good sleep quality and 157 had poor sleep quality. Only 39 people with good sleep quality had good concentration. There are 120 students with poor sleep quality but have good concentration. The results of the analysis showed with the Chi Square P Value test (0.416 > 0.05) that there was no significant relationship or relationship between sleep quality and concentration in preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Palangka Raya.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease with the main symptoms of hyperglycemia. Phytochemical screening of pumpkin skin (Cucurbita moschata) contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, and tannins which have potential as antiglycemic agents. This study aims to prove the antiglycemic activity of pumpkin peel extract (Cucurbita moschata) which acts as a reducing sugar and binds glucose in vitro using the Nelson Somogyi method. The sample of this study was pumpkin peel extract with concentrations of 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 ppm and 5 ppm quercetin as positive control. Pumpkin peel extract (Cucurbita moschata) has a potention as reducing sugar. The absorbance of each concentration of group 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 ppm is 0.400; 1.100; 1.182; 1.217; 1.505. The statistical test resulted p = 0.039, means the concentration of pumpkin peel extract (Cucurbita moschata) has an effect on decreasing glucose levels and resulted in EC50 = 56.1

Abstract

Decomposition is affected by many factors that can slow down or speed up the rate of decomposition of a corpse, and medium is one of the factors. The mediums that were used for this experiment were freshwater, saltwater, and outdoor surface. These mediums have distinct qualities and quantities of decomposers. House mice (Mus musculus), as the object of this experiment, have a few certain characteristics that are relatively similar to humans. The objective is to prove whether there was a difference in the rate of decomposition between freshwater, saltwater, and outdoor surface using mice that had been euthanized beforehand. The mice for the outdoor medium were euthanized by cervical dislocation, meanwhile the mice for both aquatic mediums were euthanized by getting drowned. The average rates of decomposition of the three mediums would then be obtained and analyzed. The fastest average decomposition rate happened on the outdoor surface (±48 hours), followed by the freshwater (±60 hours) and then in the saltwater (±72 hours). The statistical test showed that there is a significant difference in the average rates of decomposition between freshwater, saltwater, and outdoor surface.

Abstract

An increase in the number of eosinophils in the airways is a pathological feature of asthma. Airway eosinophils are frequently associated with poor lung function measurements. This study is a literature review type which aims to find out whether there is a relationship between eosinophils in the incidence of acute asthma. The method in this study uses a Systematic Literature Review. Source of data obtained from research journals. The journals obtained were 9 national journals and 6 international journals. The results obtained were 9 journals (60%) which agreed that there was a relationship between eosinophils in the incidence of acute asthma. Whereas 6 (40%) journals said it was not related, one of the factors that could occur was because the patient arrived late so that when the eosinophil examination in the blood decreased and infiltration into the tissues had occurred, besides that it was also considered the presence of comorbidities in asthma sufferers.
