Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that determine the level of banking risk-taking in Indonesia, focusing on the role of the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Return on Equity to Total Assets (RETTA), and Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR). The study employs a multiple linear regression method to examine the influence of independent variables on Bank Risk Taking, measured using Non-Performing Loans (NPL). The data used in this research come from the banking sector in Indonesia, applying a quantitative approach. The findings indicate that CAR has a positive and significant impact on Bank Risk Taking, with a regression coefficient of 3.021. This suggests that an increase in CAR tends to raise NPL, implying that banks with stronger capital tend to take higher risks. Furthermore, RETTA also has a positive and significant effect on Bank Risk Taking, with a regression coefficient of 0.531, meaning that an increase in RETTA contributes to higher NPL. Conversely, LDR has a negative and significant impact on Bank Risk Taking, with a regression coefficient of -0.020, indicating that an increase in LDR can reduce NPL. The novelty of this study lies in the simultaneous analysis of three key indicators influencing bank risk-taking, providing a comprehensive perspective on the relationship between capital structure, profitability, and liquidity in Indonesia’s banking sector. These findings have implications for the development of social sciences and humanities, particularly in economics and financial management, by highlighting the importance of banking risk management policies. Recommendations include strengthening regulations and supervision over CAR and RETTA to control higher risk exposure, as well as optimizing LDR to maintain financial stability in Indonesia’s banking sector.

Abstract

English language learning in elementary schools often faces challenges in enhancing student engagement and learning effectiveness. This study aims to develop and analyze the effectiveness of the Basketball-Based Learning (BBL) method in English language learning as an innovative approach that integrates physical activity with language skill reinforcement. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR) with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research subjects are elementary school students who participated in the BBL intervention over several sessions. Data collection was conducted through observations, interviews, and learning outcome tests to measure students’ language skill development. The results indicate that the BBL method enhances motivation, active engagement, and comprehension of vocabulary and sentence structures in English. Game-based activities in BBL create an interactive and enjoyable learning environment, reducing students’ anxiety in using a foreign language. These findings introduce novelty in language learning by simultaneously combining cognitive and physical aspects, offering an alternative to conventional, more passive methods. This study recommends the implementation of BBL as an innovative teaching strategy in elementary schools, particularly in fostering a more dynamic learning experience. Additionally, the research implications can be further explored in social sciences and humanities studies concerning physical activity-based learning methods as a holistic approach in primary education.

Abstract

Maritime digitalization has become a transformative phenomenon that not only reshapes the operational landscape of the maritime industry but also has profound socioeconomic and organizational implications. This study aims to explore the impact of technological disruption on maritime management by examining digitalization dynamics through the lenses of disruptive innovation theory and the resource-based view. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this research integrates quantitative data analysis from industry reports with qualitative insights obtained through interviews and case studies of leading maritime enterprises. The findings reveal that digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and artificial intelligence significantly enhance operational efficiency and competitive positioning. However, the adoption of these technologies also presents complex challenges, including regulatory barriers, cybersecurity threats, and the need for workforce reskilling. This study proposes a conceptual model that illustrates the relationship between digital technologies, organizational capabilities, and market performance, providing a foundation for a deeper understanding of maritime digitalization dynamics. The novelty of this study lies in its approach, which not only highlights the technical aspects of digitalization but also examines how technological transformation affects the socioeconomic structure and work patterns within the maritime industry. The findings offer strategic recommendations for policymakers and maritime managers to navigate digital change effectively. Furthermore, this study contributes to the development of social sciences and humanities by emphasizing the interconnection between technological innovation, social change, and organizational adaptation in a historically conservative industry. Aligning technological investments with organizational strategies is a key factor in the successful digitalization of maritime operations, paving the way for future research on optimizing digital integration in maritime business management.

Abstract

The decline in environmental quality has become a critical issue in various regions, including post-conflict Aceh, which is simultaneously grappling with poverty and environmental degradation. This study aims to analyze the relationship between poverty and environmental degradation within a socio-economic framework, focusing on 23 districts and municipalities in Aceh Province during the period of 2017–2022. Using panel data, the analysis employs the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) and Random Effect Model (REM) to test two main hypotheses regarding the influence of socio-economic variables on environmental quality and poverty levels. The findings indicate that poverty has a significant negative impact on environmental quality, whereas economic growth shows a positive influence in improving environmental conditions. These results underscore poverty as a key driver of environmental degradation and, conversely, highlight how poor environmental quality exacerbates poverty over the long term. The novelty of this research lies in its integrative approach, combining inter-regional panel data in a post-conflict setting with socio-economic statistical modeling—an approach rarely applied systematically in the context of Aceh. This study recommends the formulation of integrated policies that not only focus on poverty alleviation but also promote sustainable improvements in environmental quality. The implications of this research contribute to the advancement of social sciences and humanities, particularly in shaping inclusive development strategies grounded in ecological justice for vulnerable post-conflict regions.

Abstract

This article examines the role of Big Data Analytics Capabilities (BDAC) in enhancing firm competitiveness in the digital era, with a specific focus on socio-economic perspectives in emerging markets. Driven by increasing business complexity and rapid technological advancement, firms are compelled to treat data as a strategic asset for decision-making. This study adopts a literature review method, analyzing prior empirical findings, theoretical frameworks, and scholarly references to explore how BDAC influences organizational performance and competitive advantage. The findings indicate that BDAC positively contributes to innovation, operational efficiency, and the attainment of competitive advantage. Key enablers of BDAC include technological infrastructure, data analytics skills among human resources, and a data-driven organizational culture. Furthermore, dynamic capabilities serve as a critical mediator that enhances the impact of BDAC, while external environmental dynamism acts as a moderating factor influencing its effectiveness. This study offers novel insights by emphasizing the importance of integrating internal and external factors in developing data-driven business strategies. The main recommendation is the continuous strengthening of BDAC as a core component of long-term strategic planning to achieve sustainable competitiveness. This article contributes to the social sciences and humanities literature by shedding light on the implications of digital transformation for organizational dynamics and strategic development in emerging economies.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the motivation levels of women engaged in traditional cake businesses in Gampong Langung, Meureubo Subdistrict, West Aceh Regency, and to reveal the dominant needs driving their entrepreneurial activities. The research is grounded in the critical role of home-based traditional cake enterprises as a source of supplementary income, contributing to family welfare and women’s social transformation in rural settings. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, using a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–5) with 15 items representing Maslow’s five hierarchical needs: physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization. Findings show that 40% of respondents have high motivation, 40% moderate, and 20% low. Physiological and safety needs recorded the highest scores, while self-actualization scored the lowest. Most entrepreneurs are driven by economic necessity and family stability, with self-fulfillment motivations still emerging. Highly motivated individuals tend to have family support, income growth, and long-term business orientation, while those with low motivation face barriers that hinder entrepreneurship. This study’s novelty lies in mapping the motivational structure of rural women entrepreneurs in Aceh and reinforcing Maslow’s theory in the context of community-based economic empowerment. It recommends need-based strategies to enhance motivation, promote sustainable growth, and support women’s social transformation and rural economic independence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the local government’s communication strategies in the development of the Batee Puteh Beach Tourism Area in Aceh Barat Regency. The research focuses on how communication is utilized to address weak promotion and limited stakeholder collaboration. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through field observations and in-depth interviews with relevant officials and local community leaders. The findings reveal that the local government’s communication strategies include: (1) community socialization and engagement through a participatory approach; (2) destination promotion using social media, mass media, events, and cross-sector partnerships; and (3) stakeholder coordination involving government, private sector, community, academia, and media. These strategies have effectively increased community participation and tourist visits. Persuasive communication rooted in local wisdom and informal interactions has also been employed to align stakeholder visions. The study demonstrates that well-designed and executed communication can bridge gaps in information and coordination, positioning communication as a key factor in local tourism development. The novelty of this study lies in identifying a collaborative, participatory government communication model tailored to community-based tourism. It recommends continued communication innovation, stronger destination branding, crisis communication protocols, and long-term cross-sector partnerships. The theoretical implications contribute to social sciences, particularly in development communication and sustainable tourism governance.

Abstract

Drug and substance abuse among Zimbabwean youth in the post-2000 era has reached an alarming crisis level. This study aims to examine emerging trends in substance abuse practices among young people and to evaluate the effectiveness of existing intervention measures. Using a documentary survey method that draws on policy reports, media sources, and public records, the study investigates the strong link between acute socio-economic marginalization and the rise of increasingly creative yet hazardous substance consumption practices. Key findings indicate that while cannabis remains the most commonly abused substance, new and unconventional patterns have emerged. These include the misuse of prescription drugs, consumption of home-brewed intoxicants, transfusion of drug users’ blood, ingestion of drug-laced foods, and even the intake of sodium polyacrylate extracted from boiled baby diapers. The study highlights poverty, structural unemployment, and weak border surveillance as major driving forces. Despite various efforts by government authorities and law enforcement, current policy responses appear inadequate in addressing the evolving dynamics of the problem. The novelty of this study lies in its documentation of underreported forms of substance use and its analysis of how these practices relate to youth identity formation in the context of prolonged crisis. The study recommends an interdisciplinary and participatory approach to social policy, one that moves beyond punitive measures to include social rehabilitation, inclusive economic development, and the strengthening of positive youth identities. This research contributes to the broader field of social sciences and humanities, particularly in understanding the intersections of crisis, identity, and deviance within the Global South.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology has prompted governments to optimize public services through digital systems, including the implementation of e-Government. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the SIAPkerja (Work Training Administration and Information System) application at the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for Industrial and Tourism Job Training Center (UPTD BLK-IP) in Bali Province, as part of the digital transformation in the employment sector. Using a descriptive qualitative approach over two months, data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with training program administrators, and documentation analysis of technical guidelines and training reports. Findings reveal that successful implementation of SIAPkerja depends on three core elements: government policy support through regulation and system development; resource capacity including funding, IT infrastructure, and human resource competence; and system value in enhancing administrative efficiency and transparency. However, technical challenges persist, such as limited features, delayed report notifications, and inflexible participant data management. This study contributes a sociotechnical perspective by emphasizing the alignment between regulation, technology, and operational practices at the execution level. Key recommendations include continuous field-based evaluation and institutional capacity strengthening to ensure the sustainability of digital transformation in vocational training services. These findings enrich social sciences and humanities discourse on micro-level policy implementation in digital governance.
