Abstract

The study of hadith authenticity is one of the central issues in hadith studies because it is directly related to the validity of traditions attributed to Prophet Muhammad. This study aims to map the problem of hadith authenticity in contemporary academic literature using the Systematic Literature Review method. The data were obtained from scholarly journal articles relevant to hadith authenticity, hadith criticism, hadith historicity, and digital hadith authentication. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis by classifying the literature based on research focus, method, main findings, and contribution to hadith studies. The findings show that the problem of hadith authenticity can be mapped into several layers, namely transmission problems, matn substance problems, historicity problems, scholarly authority problems, and the problem of hadith dissemination in digital spaces. Sanad criticism and matn criticism remain the main foundations of hadith authentication, while common link theory anisnad-cum-matn analysis contribute to a more critical understanding of the historical transmission of hadith. Digital authentication emerges as a response to the spread of hadith in digital media, but it still requires methodological validation from classical hadith sciences. This study emphasizes the need for an integrative model of hadith authenticity that combines transmission validation, textual-substantive validation, historical analysis, and digital technology.

Abstract

The #KaburAjaDulu phenomenon, which went viral in early 2025, reflects the aspirations of Indonesia’s younger generation to migrate abroad a trend that some groups have framed within the narrative of “hijrah.” This study examines the meaning of hijrah in Sahih Bukhari Hadiths No. 1 and No. 2783 through the ma’anil hadith approach, and then contextualizes it in relation to this phenomenon using three normative principles from the Muqaddimah Qanun Asasi by KH. Hasyim Asy’ari: al-ijtima’ wa al-ittihad, ukhuwah wathaniyah, and hubbul wathan minal iman. The method used is qualitative library research employing the ma’anil hadith approach, along with a study of the commentary Fath al-Bari by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani. The results of the study show: Sahih Bukhari No. 1 states that the value of all actions, including migration, is determined by one’s intention; No. 2783 states that the obligation of physical hijrah ended after the Conquest of Mecca, and what remains is jihad and intention; and #JustRunAwayFirst is not monolithic; there are three typologies of intention: al-niyyah al-muwafiqah (contribution-oriented), al-niyyah al-mubhamah (ambiguous), and al-niyyah al-musykilah (purely material). This study concludes that the use of the term “hijrah” to encompass the entire spectrum of #KaburAjaDulu is an inappropriate oversimplification, and that the only normative departure that is justified is one oriented toward jihad fi sabilillahactive struggle for the good of the ummah and the nation.

Abstract

The debate on the authenticity of hadith between Joseph Schacht and Muḥammad Muṣṭafā al-A‘ẓamī represents a fundamental friction between Western historical-critical approaches and traditional Islamic internal authentication. This study aims to analytically explore the philosophical foundations, methodological convergences, and divergences of both scholars. Employing library research and content analysis, this study adopts Paul Ricoeur’s dialectical hermenutics framework, which juxtaposes the hermeneutics of suspicion and the hermeneutics of faith. The results indicate that Schacht’s paradigm functions as a hermeneutics of suspicion through deconstructive instruments such as back-projection and argumentum e silentio. Conversely, al-A‘ẓamī’s methodology embodies a hermeneutics of faith that restores textual authority through internal transmission devices (isnād cum matn) and first-century AH documentary evidence. The novelty of this study lies in its synthesis of an integrative isnād-historical epistemological model that reconfigures Western critical analysis as an external control mechanism, while preserving the traditional isnād coherence as the primary internal control core. This study implies that the integrative model serves as a robust framework for epistemic decolonization in contemporary Islamic studies and offers a layered verification mechanism to address information validity crises in the digital era.

Abstract

The global ecological crisis marked by deforestation, pollution, and climate change requires a religious paradigm that can provide ethical and normative solutions. The Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW about the recommendation to plant trees even if the apocalypse is imminent is one of the prophetic texts that contains profound ecological messages. Global ecology, when analyzed from the perspective of Hadith, serves as a foundation for developing environmental jurisprudence (fiqh). To address this issue, a qualitative analysis is needed using a thematic approach (maudhu'i) to Hadiths related to ecology, supplemented by an examination of the chain of narration (sanad) and text (matan) to ensure their validity, as well as contextual analysis to reveal their relevance in contemporary contexts. The research findings indicate that the Hadith about planting trees until the apocalypse contains values of ecological optimism, sustainability, and Maqasid Al-Shariah, particularly in efforts to preserve the environment (Hifz Al-Bi'ah). This underscores that the Hadiths of the Prophet are not only a source of worship law but also a normative basis for environmental jurisprudence (fiqh) that is relevant to issues of climate change and nature conservation movements. Thus, these findings contribute theoretically to the development of green fiqh in contemporary Islamic studies and have practical implications for community-based ecological movements among Muslims.

Abstract

Normatively, the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad Saw., commands that Zakat al-Fitr be distribution before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. However, the sosiological reality in Rao-Rao Dolok Village reveals that distribution by amil consistently delayed past this limit. This study aims to analyze this delayed distribution through the perspective of Living Hadith studies. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using textual and contextual living hadith methods. Primary data were gathered through interviews with amil, muzakki and mustahiq, alongside village zakat records triangulation. The novelty lies in dissecting the sociological dialectic of community interactions (living hadith practices) toward managerial constraints at the village level, rather than merely examining the textual laws of zakat delay. The findings indicate that the delay is caused  by managerial and sosiological constraints instead of theological factors. Key obstacles include muzakki piling up payments on takbiran, night, limited amil personnel, and transportation challenges using “becak” for door to door delivery. In hadith law, delaying distribution without a valid sharia excuse (uzur syar’i) shifts the zakat status implies the urgent need to restructure payment timing by village amil and the reinforce theological education by local religious leaders to align distribution management with the maqashid of the Prophet’s Hadith.

Abstract

This study examines the bawa dulang tradition as a form of living hadith in the Sasak community of Setuta Village, Central Lombok. Bawa dulang is a food-sharing practice performed during various social and religious occasions, such as weddings, circumcisions, and Islamic commemorations. This research aims to analyze the practice of bawa dulang, reconstruct the hadith values embodied in it, and explore how the community receives and understands the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. This study employs a qualitative approach using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants consist of religious leaders, traditional leaders, and local residents. Data were analyzed descriptively and interpretively within the framework of living hadith. The findings indicate that the community perceives bawa dulang not merely as a cultural custom but as part of Islamic practice related to sharing, almsgiving, honoring neighbors, and strengthening social ties. These hadith values are not understood textually but are substantively internalized through social experience and religious instruction. The practice also reflects gendered participation, with women playing a central role in religious rituals, while men represent households in social events.

Abstract

The development of social media has encouraged the practice of personal branding as a means of building identity and self-reputation in the digital space. This phenomenon raises ethical issues related to the potential of riya' and sum'ah in the perspective of the hadith of the Prophet This research aims to analyze the concept of personal branding in the perspective of hadith and formulate ethical limits for its application in the digital era. The research uses a qualitative method with a thematic hadith approach (mauḍū'ī) through literature studies. Data was obtained from hadiths related to riyā' and sum'ah, then analyzed using hadith syarah books and relevant scientific literature. The results of the study show that the hadith of the Prophet does not reject all forms of self-representation in the public sphere, but emphasizes the importance of intention, honesty, and interest orientation. Personal branding is allowed if it aims to introduce competence and provide benefits, while the orientation to praise and popularity is solely included in the categories of riya' and sum'ah. Thus, the hadith of the Prophet provides an ethical basis in building a digital reputation that is in line with Islamic values so that the use of social media remains within the corridor of sharia.
