Abstract

This study aims to explore innovations in the development of experiential learning models to foster creativity and active learning in students. This study is based on the low participation and creativity of students in learning drama texts. This is due to the learning methods used by teachers who are still conventional and do not involve students enough, resulting in teacher-centered learning and minimal space for exploring ideas. Through the development in this study, students are invited to understand the theory and connect it with authentic experiences, thereby actively engaging in reflection, experimentation, and direct application activities. This study uses a classroom action research method that was carried out for two cycles and involved all students in class XI 6 SMAN Mumbulsari. Data collection was carried out through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and creativity questionnaires. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the aspects of creativity and active learning of students. Initially, using conventional learning methods, the level of student participation was only 30%, with only 30% of students actively participating and asking questions. However, after using the experiential learning model, this figure jumped to 85%. This change in values occurs because students are not only placed as spectators in the learning process, but as co-creators who are responsible for their own learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze speech events in the Marunjuk tradition of the Toba Batak ethnic group and evaluate its potential as a source of learning cultural values ??in the context of multicultural education. The Marunjuk tradition is a form of traditional wedding ceremony that is full of meaning and social symbols, which is carried out by the Toba Batak community by involving various elements of oral communication. This study employs a qualitative approach, incorporating observation, documentation, and discourse analysis techniques, grounded in the theory of speech events developed by Dell Hymes (Speaking). The results of the study indicate that there are ten main stages in the Marunjuk tradition containing 57 speech event data, which include values ??such as respect, gratitude, togetherness, and social responsibility. The ten stages are: entering the party hall, delivering tudu-tudu sipanganon, delivering dengke simudur-udur, manjalo tumpak, mambagi jambar, marsiseanan, handing over panandaion, handing over tintin marangkup, mangulosi, tingkir tangga/paulak une (ulaon sad). From an educational perspective, this speech event serves as a concrete representation of cultural practices that can be utilized in local wisdom-based learning, particularly in strengthening the Pancasila student profile and developing character through language and cultural education. This research suggests integrating the Marunjuk custom as a contextual teaching resource in primary and secondary education curricula.

Abstract

This study aims to describe: 1) the character of Malay poetry in the context of culture and literature; 2) the development of Malay poetry over time; 3) the position of Malay poetry compared to other ancient poetry; 4) the relevance of Malay poetry in the modern era. The study was conducted in March–May 2025 in several libraries and classical manuscript documentation centers in Jakarta and Riau; in line with the use of library methods in research. The population in this study was all documented Malay poetry, while the sample was selected purposively based on the diversity of themes and periods of their emergence. The research instruments were in the form of literature study guidelines and text analysis sheets. Research data were collected using non-test instruments, namely observation guidelines and checklists that were compiled objectively and systematically to meet the requirements of a reliable non-test instrument. Research data were analyzed using content analysis methods and a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the study indicate that: 1) Malay poetry not only functions as literary entertainment, but also as a medium for cultural transmission, preservation of identity, and conveying the values ??of local wisdom; 2) Malay poetry experienced rapid development during the golden age of Malay Islamic kingdoms such as the Sultanates of Aceh, Riau-Lingga, and Johor through Malay literary figures who developed from oral to written literature, especially after the introduction of the Arabic-Malay script and print media; 3) poetry has unique characteristics compared to pantun and gurindam and functions as a more flexible form of discourse; 4) poetry remains relevant in education because it contains moral and religious values that can be taught in the context of character education and cultural literacy in schools and has the potential to be developed in modern media.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low interest in reading among early childhood children, the use of less engaging learning media, and the dominance of conventional storybooks that only display static text and images without considering children's diverse learning styles. This study aims to determine the feasibility of validating the development of multimodality-based picture storybooks with an educational game approach in early childhood language learning. This research uses a quantitative descriptive design. From the perspective of data sources, this study uses a library method. Data on multimodality-based picture storybooks with an educational game approach in early childhood language learning were collected using observation guidelines, instruments assisted by checklists. Validation was carried out by each of a material expert, a media expert, and an early childhood education practitioner on eight aspects of feasibility, namely material content, multimodality, language, educational games, visual appearance, accessibility, local cultural integration, and holistic aspects. The validation results showed a total score of 90 out of a maximum score of 96, which, after being converted to 94%, is included in the very valid category or can be used without revision. Thus, this multimodality-based picture story book with an educational game approach in early childhood language learning is declared very suitable for use in language learning for children aged 5-6 years in PAUD because it fulfills the elements of content, visual, educational, and cultural contextual suitability, and children's development needs.

Abstract

Using the descriptive-correlational research design, this study examined the basic and post basic programs used to teach English in Burundi education system in order to find out the extent to which curriculum continuity is ensured across the 2 levels. Curriculum continuity was therefore assessed following Ornstein and Hunkins’ (1988) bidimensional model. The study further aimed to determine the relationship between curriculum continuity and post basic learners’ linguistic performance. In this way, two research instruments were used to collect data, mainly the document analysis and a likert scale questionnaire which was administered to a population sample of 32 learners of languages section from some selected schools in Ntahangwa communal Directorate of Education. Frequency distribution and Pearson’s r correlation were the statistical tools used to treat the data from the questionnaire while the data from document analysis were analyzed qualitatively. Findings reveal that the curriculum continuity across the two levels is ensured to a little extent. Additionally, the majority of the respondents view the continuity of curriculum at a very low level. Results further demonstrate that there is a very strong and positive relationship between curriculum continuity and learners’ linguistic performance. The study finally recommends the government of Burundi, through the Ministry of Education, to assure a smooth junction across different levels of education especially in terms of curriculum design and its implementation. Teachers are also recommended to be more creative by helping their learners be able to use the target language in and outside the classroom.
