Abstract

Kurangnya pemahaman generasi muda tentang adat istiadat terutama adat patampei parsahapan maka diperlukannya dokumentasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan adat patampei parsahapan, menjelaskan tentang penuturnya, menganalisis tindak tuturnya, dan menjelaskan fungsi tindak tutur pada adat patampei parsahapan suku Simalungun. Teori tindak tutur sesuai digunakan untuk penelitian ini. Teori Austin dan Searle dipilih dan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Austin membagi tindak tutur menjadi tiga yaitu: tindak tutur lokusi, tindak tutur ilokusi, dan tindak tutur perlokusi. Searle membedakan tindak tutur ilokusi berdasarkan fungsinya menjadi lima yaitu: tindak tutur representatif, direktif, ekspresif, komisif, dan deklarasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengambilan data yaitu metode kepustakaan dan tenik wawancara. Data yang diperoleh lalu di analisis yaitu mulai dari penerjemahan tuturan dari Bahasa Simalungun ke Bahasa Indonesia. Mengeliminasi data yang tidak relevan. Mengklasifikasikan data. Data dianalisis berdasarkan jenis dan fungsinya. Membuat kesimpulan dari penelitian.  Dari penelitian ini dapat ditemukan sebagai berikut: adat patampei parsahapan adalah perkenalan secara resmi kedua keluarga belah pihak, membahas mengenai jumlah partadingan, lokasi dan waktu pesta, jumlah hiou, dan lain sebagainya. Pada patampei parsahapan ini anak boru jabu, anak boru sanina dari pihak paranak dan parboru, tulang dari pengantin perempuan, tokoh adat turut memberikan tuturan. Tindak tutur lokusi, ilokusi, dan perlokusi ditemukan dalam adat patampei parsahapan. Terdapat empat fungsi tindak tutur yaitu tindak tutur representatif, direktif, komisif, dan ekspresif.  Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi sebagai dasar pertimbangan, pendukung dan sumbangan pemikiran kepada masyarakat mengenai tindak tutur pada adat patampei parsahapan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to describe the form and function of the Pakpak traditional house in Pakpak Bharat Regency, North Sumatra Province. The form and function of the Pakpak traditional house is described and interpreted from Pakpak language to Indonesian with a semiotic approach to find the meaning and function as well as the cultural value of each ornament that symbolizes the philosophical value of the Pakpak ethnic community through its traditional house. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnographic model that is carried out by collecting data carrying out ethnographic activities, namely the main focus of ethnography is to collect data by observation and interviews; work with key informants. The theoretical framework used is a semiotic approach, namely the science that examines signs in human life, the meaning obtained from a sign at the mimetic level cannot be used to express its meaning. This theory is indeed suitable for research that discusses the disclosure of the meaning of the results of material culture in the form of signs on Pakpak traditional houses.

Abstract

This article entitled “Folklore of Karo in the Development of Storytelling-Based Cultural Tourism in Dokan Village” was researched by Folklore approach. This study formulates 2 problem formulations, namely the form of an inventory of Karo folklore and cultural values for the development of cultural tourism in Dokan Village, and the role of Karo Folklore in the development of cultural tourism in Dokan Village, which is beneficial for the development of cultural tourism in the Karo area. The method used in this study is qualitative paradigm of ethnographic model developed by spreadly applies 12 steps of observation and 12 steps of interview. The findings this study are expected to be benefit Karo community as  a culture owners, researchers, and students who want to explore the folklore of Karo community and the development of cultural tourism in Dokan Village.

Abstract

This dedication aims to overcome the decline in youth's interest and understanding of gorga carving in Pansur Napitu Village and develop the economic potential of traditional art. This decline in interest is due to a lack of knowledge, skills, and understanding of the economic value of gorga carving. This proposal will actively engage youth through training and empowerment programs. Training will focus on an introduction to gorga carving, carving techniques, and the application of creative design. Youth will be given knowledge about cultural values, history, and the importance of preserving the art of gorga carving. In addition, youth will be trained in aspects of product development and marketing. They will be taught about the use of quality materials, the development of attractive designs, and effective marketing strategies. With this understanding, the youth in Pansur Napitu Village will be able to produce gorga carving products that have high economic value. In implementing the program, cooperation with local governments, cultural institutions, and creative industry players will be a key factor. Support and synergy with related parties will facilitate access to resources, market opportunities, and networks that can support the development of gorga carving products, Program evaluation and monitoring will be carried out regularly to measure the success and impact that has been achieved. With effective training and empowerment, it is expected that the youth's interest in gorga carving will increase, their skills will be improved, and creative products of economic value will be produced, thus having a positive impact on the youth and the Pansur Napitu Village community.

Abstract

Jabu Parsaktian Datu Parulas Paultop merupakan bangunan tradisional yang memiliki banyak ornamen gorga yang berhubungan dengan lambang yang memiliki makna sesuai hubungan dengan adat-istiadat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data yaitu: (1) observasi; (2) wawancara; dan (3) dokumentasi. Teori yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah teori semiotika oleh Charles Sander Peirce dan teori makna dikemukakan oleh Ogden dan Ricard. Lokasi penelitian ini di Desa Harian, Kecamatan Onanrunggu, Kabupaten Samosir. Ditemukan hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat sepuluh bentuk simbol pada Jabu Parsaktian Datu Parulas Paultop yaitu: (1) simbol ornamen ulu paung; (2)simbol ornamen simanuk-manuk; (3) simbol ornamen jaga dompak raja; (4) simbol ornamen jenggar-jenggar tomboman gaung; (5) simbol ornamen simeol-eol; (6) simbol ornamen marsirahutan; (7) simbol ornamen ombun marhehe; (8) simbol ornamen dalian natolu; (9) simbol ornamen sipiso-piso; dan (10) simbol ornamen tumpak sala sionom-onom. Makna yang terdapat pada Jabu Parsaktian Datu Parulas Paultop yaitu makna denotatif dan konotatif yang masing-masing berdasarkan peletakan dari simbol ornamen.

Abstract

Lagu sebagai hasil dari pengalaman indrawi, merupakan ekspresi budaya yang dapat mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai atau adat-istiadat tertentu. Artinya, kebudayaan suatu Masyarakat di antaranya dapat terdokumentasikan melalui lagu. Kajian ini difokuskan terhadap salah satu lagu berbahasa Batak-Toba berjudul “Da Natiniptip Sanggar” karya Nahum Situmorang. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji makna lirik lagu tersebut melalui analisis yang bersifat kualitatif dan uraian deskriptif. Perspektif semiotika Roland Barthes digunakan dalam kajian ini dengan fokus pada kajian makna denotatif dan konotatif. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa lagu ini memuat falsafah Dalihan na Tolu, yang merupakan kompleksitas sistem kekerabatan masyarakat Batak-Toba. Di dalamnya, termuat representasi budaya berdasarkan falsafah tersebut, di antaranya martarombo (proses pengenalan/pencarian hubungan kekerabatan, setelah diketahui marga antara dua orang yang baru bertemu) dan partuturan (pedoman dalam interaksi sosial yang menjunjung tinggi adat). Selain itu, secara khusus lirik dalam lagu ini disusun dengan muatan umpasa, yang merupakan padanan dari ungkapan bijak dalam kesusastraan masyarakat Batak-Toba. Secara khusus, umpasa yang termuat dalam lagu tersebut merupakan nasihat yang biasa disampaikan bagi pasangan muda-mudi yang baru memasuki jenjang pernikahan.Songs, as a product of sensory experience, are cultural expressions that can describe certain values or customs. This means that the culture of a society can be documented through songs. This study focuses on a Batak-Toba language song titled "Da Natiniptip Sanggar," composed by Nahum Situmorang. The aim of this paper is to examine the meaning of the song's lyrics through qualitative analysis and descriptive exposition. Roland Barthes' semiotic perspective is employed in this study, focusing on denotative and connotative meanings. The results show that the song contains the philosophy of Dalihan na Tolu, which represents the complexity of the kinship system in Batak-Toba society. It reflects cultural representations based on this philosophy, including martarombo (the process of identifying or searching for kinship ties once the clan names are known between two people who have just met) and partuturan (guidelines for social interactions that uphold customs). Additionally, the lyrics of the song are specifically composed with umpasa, a literary expression of wisdom within Batak-Toba literature. In particular, the umpasa in this song provides advice typically given to young couples who are about to enter marriage.

Abstract

The super-diversity of Indonesian society has led to interculturality, where every tradition can be changed and/or mixed, intentionally or unintentionally. This condition is often documented in literary works, where the film Tulang Belulang Tulang (Uncle’s Bones) (2024), directed by Sammaria Sari Simanjuntak, also depicts the cultural interculturality of Sundanese culture to the Batak-Toba community. Therefore, this research aims to analyse the interculturality that is shown and spoken through the visuals and dialogue between each character, using the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), which is studied qualitatively with descriptive results through the 7 elements of cultural approach (Koentjaraningrat, 2004). This study's results show several interculturation phenomena that occur in culture through the aspects of (1) language and (2) knowledge system. In language interculturation, some scenes show code-switching from Indonesian to Sundanese in a social environment of the Batak-Toba community. Meanwhile, the understanding of the Sundanese gastronomic products depicted and described is evidence of interculturation in the knowledge system.

Abstract

This study examines the analysis of management in the traditional ceremony of Mbaba Belo Selambar, as one of the cultural traditions in the Batak Karo community. Mbaba Belo Selambar is a traditional ritual that has a deep meaning in the social structure system of the Batak Karo community. In this context, it can be explained how the concept of Mbaba Belo Selambar in the socio-cultural structure of the Batak Karo community and the values contained in the Mbaba Belo Selambar ceremony in the Batak Karo community. This study aims to examine in depth the concept of Mbaba Belo Selambar in the socio-cultural structure of the Batak Karo community and identify the values contained therein. This research method uses a qualitative approach with data collection on secondary data sources from literature studies and documents on Batak Karo cultural literature. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews: conducting structured and semi-structured interviews with key informants of Mbaba Belo Selambar practices in various social contexts. The results of this study indicate that Mbaba Belo Selambar has a complex cultural management structure involving rakut sitelu in the Batak Karo community, including traditional elders, and local communities. This practice is managed through a mutual cooperation system that reflects the strong values of social solidarity in Karo culture. This study contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of traditional cultural management in the context of Indonesian society, especially in terms of how ethnic communities maintain and manage their cultural heritage.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis nilai-nilai sosial budaya dalam komunikasi bahasa Batak Toba pada upacara mangadati melalui pendekatan sosiolinguistik. Mangadati sebagai ritual penyambutan adat memiliki pola komunikasi khas yang merepresentasikan sistem nilai masyarakat Batak Toba. Menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan analisis wacana, data dikumpulkan dari Kabupaten Toba, Samosir, dan Humbang Hasundutan melibatkan 15 informan tokoh adat, hatobangon, dan partisipan upacara. Analisis menggunakan kerangka teori sosiolinguistik Dell Hymes dan konsep nilai budaya Kluckhohn. Hasil penelitian mengungkap lima nilai utama: hierarki sosial dalam sapaan sesuai Dalihan Na Tolu, religiositas dalam formula doa, solidaritas kolektif melalui pronomina inklusif, hospitalitas dalam register penyambutan, dan pelestarian tradisi melalui bahasa arkais. Variasi sosiolinguistik menunjukkan perbedaan berdasarkan usia, pendidikan, dan status sosial penutur. Penelitian berkontribusi pada dokumentasi linguistik Batak Toba dan pemahaman hubungan bahasa-budaya dalam ritual adat, serta revitalisasi bahasa daerah di era globalisasi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas makna simbolik ulos dalam upacara pernikahan adat Batak Toba sebagai bagian dari sistem budaya yang sarat nilai sosial, spiritual, dan kekerabatan. Ulos bukan hanya kain tenun tradisional, tetapi juga simbol kasih sayang, restu, dan pengesahan sosial dalam masyarakat Batak Toba. Dalam prosesi pernikahan, tindakan mangulosi menjadi inti dari simbolisasi penyatuan dua keluarga besar, dengan jenis dan motif ulos yang memiliki filosofi berbeda-beda. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif-analisis melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumentasi di wilayah Toba dan Samosir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ulos memainkan peran penting dalam memperkuat struktur sosial dan pelestarian nilai-nilai budaya. Namun, di tengah arus modernisasi, terjadi pergeseran makna ulos yang mengarah pada reduksi nilai simboliknya. Oleh karena itu, kajian ini menekankan pentingnya revitalisasi pemahaman budaya melalui edukasi dan pelibatan generasi muda agar makna ulos tetap hidup dan relevan dalam konteks kontemporer.
