Abstract

Anemia is a significant public health problem, especially in adolescent girls. The prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls globally is still high and is one of the main causes of low productivity and impaired physical and cognitive development. Adolescent girls are a vulnerable group to anemia because they menstruate every month and require higher iron intake. Anemia at this age can continue into pregnancy and increase the risk of pregnancy complications, premature birth, and low birth weight babies. This activity aims to increase adolescent girls' knowledge in efforts to prevent anemia and increase compliance in consuming Iron Supplement Tablets (TTD). The method used is through counseling. Partners in this activity are all adolescent girls in Pariti Village as many as 35 people. Knowledge evaluation uses pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The assessment results show that there is a difference in the average pre-test score of 67.4 (SD = 6.79) and the average post-test score of 89.1 (SD = 6.58). The results of statistical tests showed a significant increase in the knowledge of adolescent girls after being given educational materials about anemia and Iron Tablets (TTD) (p = 0.000; α < 0.05).

Abstract

The rising prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among young populations is becoming an alarming public health issue. One of the key contributing factors is the lack of awareness and delayed early detection, particularly among adolescent girls who are vulnerable to unhealthy lifestyle changes. This community service project aimed to perform early detection of type 2 diabetes melitus risk through random blood glucose screening and interactive health education for seventh-grade female students at SMP Nurul Jadid. The method involved random blood glucose testing using calibrated digital glucometers on 42 participants, followed by health education sessions through lectures and discussions, and evaluation using pretest and posttest questionnaires. Results showed that 21.4% of participants were in the prediabetes category, while the average knowledge score increased significantly from 56.2 to 92.6 after the education session. Participants also demonstrated high levels of active engagement and interest in health-related topics. These findings highlight the importance of early detection and school-based health education in preventing type 2 diabetes melitus. This activity proved effective in improving students' knowledge and awareness and holds strong potential to be developed into a sustainable preventive health program within the educational environment.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that poses a major challenge to the development of quality human resources. The condition is not only influenced by inadequate nutritional intake, but also by environmental and behavioral factors. One of the factors that contribute to stunting is the low level of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), especially the habit of washing hands properly. Previous studies confirm that proper handwashing behavior, as part of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), has a significant correlation with reducing stunting. In addition to nutritional interventions, stunting prevention also requires changes in community behavior (PHBS) through effective education. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase elementary school students' knowledge about PHBS as an effort to prevent stunting. The implementation method includes educational counseling, discussion, six-step hand washing simulation, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge, where students with good knowledge increased by 73%, and students with poor knowledge decreased to 7%. In addition, students' hand washing practice skills also showed improvement. PHBS education carried out from an early age has proven to be effective in shaping hygienic behavior and supporting efforts to reduce the prevalence of stunting in the future.

Abstract

Oral health is an integral component of general health. It is also clear that the causative and risk factors for oral disease are often the same as those involved in general disease. Data from the Basic Health Research in 2018, Indonesia experienced 57.6% of dental and oral health problems. According to data from the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI, 2023), dental and oral health problems were 56.9%, which means there was a decrease of 0.7% from 2018. The purpose of the dental and oral health counseling activity is to introduce students to dental and oral health and the importance of maintaining dental and oral health. The target of this dental and oral health counseling was grade 2 students of SDN 1 Karangkendal, Kapetakan District, Cirebon Regency. This activity was carried out in class 2A. From the dental and oral health counseling activity, quite significant results were obtained. The results showed an increase in knowledge. Abstract

Stunting has become a national development priority for the Government of Indonesia, including in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, with a targeted reduction rate of 14% by 2024. Stunting is a manifestation of chronic growth failure in children under the age of five, primarily resulting from prolonged nutritional deficiencies and repeated infections, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life (from conception to two years of age). Children affected by stunting exhibit a height-for-age below the standard growth reference. Beyond its impact on physical stature, stunting also compromises brain development and has long-term consequences on cognitive function and overall productivity. The persistence of stunting is attributed to the insufficient implementation of both specific and sensitive interventions targeting young children and their mothers. The Accelerated Stunting Prevention Program through the Investing in Nutrition and Early Years (INEY) Phase 2 supports catalytic investments aimed at strengthening implementation capacity and systems, while promoting a multisectoral approach to stunting reduction. Advocacy serves as a persuasive communication strategy to influence government stakeholders and local authorities in Kupang City to support the execution of the INEY program. The involvement of Kupang Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes Kemenkes Kupang) is expected to enhance the effectiveness of efforts to reduce the prevalence of stunting in East Nusa Tenggara, particularly in Kupang City.

Abstract

Poor sleep quality is a common issue among menopausal women, potentially impacting their overall health and quality of life. This community service initiative aims to improve sleep quality for menopausal women in Kenanti Village, Tuban, through health education and deep breathing exercises. The topic selection stems from the high prevalence of sleep disturbances and the limited access to non-pharmacological solutions. The service method included counseling, demonstration and practice of exercises. The result shows a significant increase in the subjective sleep quality of the participants. It is concluded that deep breathing exercise education is effective in improving the sleep quality of menopausal women. Therefore, this program has the potential to be replicated in other regions and to be a special education for the community, especially menopausal women.
