Abstract

According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), 7.4% of toddlers in Indonesia had diarrhoea that year. In 2024, the Pidie District Health Office recorded a total population of 448,130 souls, with 139,808 men and 149,609 females making up the demographic. The highest number of diarrhoea cases in 26 Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) that year was 1,732 children, with 899 boys and 833 girls affected. A total of 1,454 toddlers, including 739 boys and 661 girls, were reported to have diarrhoea in 2025. At the same time, in January and February of 2026, a total of 181 instances of diarrhoea among toddlers were recorded, with 84 males and 97 females affected. In order to find out how often diarrhoea strikes children in Peukan Baro District, Pidie Regency in 2026 and how maternal awareness and personal hygiene relate to this, this study employs a cross-sectional technique. The research methodology used in this study is cross-sectional and analytical. Using a complete sampling technique, the researchers in this study selected a sample of 37 toddlers. The dates of this study are February 20, 2026, to April 4, 2026. A questionnaire was used to gather data. The study's findings indicate that in Peukan Baro District, Pidie Regency in 2026, there is no correlation between maternal knowledge and the occurrence of diarrhoea in children. In the Peukan Baro District of Pidie Regency in the year 2026, there is a strong correlation between the frequency of diarrhoea in children and the cleanliness of mothers' bodies. In order to reduce the prevalence of diarrhoea in children, it is advised that mothers acquire more knowledge and practise appropriate personal hygiene on a regular basis.

Abstract

Knee pain is a musculoskeletal complaint that can impair mobility and daily activities. This study aimed to compare the effects of infrared therapy and heel slide exercises on knee pain intensity among adults in Banjaran Pucung Village. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental, two-group pre-test and post-test design was employed. Thirty respondents were selected via purposive sampling and divided into two groups-infrared and heel slide-with 15 respondents in each. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before and after a four-week intervention period (conducted three times weekly). Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired-samples t-test, and independent-samples t-test, with a significance level of 0.05. In the infrared group, mean pain intensity decreased (p<0.001), and in the heel slide group, mean scores also decreased (p<0.001). The reduction in the heel slide group was greater than that in the infrared group. Between-group analysis revealed a significant difference (t = -9.819, p<0.001). In conclusion, both interventions effectively reduced knee pain intensity, but heel slide exercises resulted in a greater reduction. These findings support the use of heel slide exercises as a practical alternative for active physiotherapy intervention in adults suffering from knee pain.

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are common among older adults and may reduce physical function, psychological well-being, and daily activity. Non-pharmacological interventions are needed because prolonged use of hypnotic medication may create unwanted effects in older people. This literature review aimed to analyze the effect of Benson relaxation therapy on sleep quality among older adults. Articles were searched through Google Scholar and ResearchGate using Indonesian and English keywords related to sleep quality, older adults, and Benson relaxation. The search was conducted on 6-9 March 2023. Articles published after 2017, available in full text, written in Indonesian or English, and examining Benson relaxation in older adults with sleep problems were included. From 575 identified records, five studies met the eligibility criteria. The included studies used quasi-experimental or pre-experimental designs and mainly assessed sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. All five studies reported statistically significant improvement after Benson relaxation, with p values below 0.05. The proportion of participants with good sleep quality also increased after intervention across the reviewed studies. Benson relaxation may therefore be considered a simple, low-cost, and feasible complementary intervention to support sleep quality in older adults.

Abstract

Abdominal colic is a common complaint in early infancy and may be characterized by excessive crying, abdominal distension or firmness, flexion of the legs toward the abdomen, and clenched hands. I Love You (ILU) massage is a non-pharmacological intervention that may provide comfort and support digestive function. This study aimed to determine the effect of ILU massage on the level of abdominal colic in infants aged 0–3 months. A quantitative quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used. The sample consisted of 35 infants aged 0–3 months experiencing abdominal colic in Temperak Village, Sarang District, Rembang Regency. Colic was assessed using a questionnaire completed by mothers/caregivers before and after the intervention. ILU massage was administered once daily for 15 minutes over three days. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and paired-samples t-test, with Cohen’s d used to estimate effect size. Before the intervention, 18 infants (51.4%) had moderate colic, 13 (37.1%) had severe colic, and 4 (11.4%) had mild colic. After the intervention, 21 infants (60.0%) had mild colic, 13 (37.1%) were no longer categorized as having colic, and 1 (2.9%) had moderate colic. The mean colic score decreased from 11.34 to 5.26, with a mean difference of 6.09. The paired-samples t-test showed p < 0.001 and Cohen’s d = 3.61. These findings indicate a significant difference in abdominal colic levels before and after ILU massage. ILU massage may therefore be considered a supportive non-pharmacological approach for reducing colic symptoms, although the absence of a control group limits causal interpretation.

Abstract

Anemia remains a major global public health problem, particularly among pregnant women, where it contributes to adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. Its etiology is multifactorial, involving nutritional, biological, and healthcare-related determinants. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the determinants of anemia among pregnant women in Tarakan City, focusing on maternal age, parity, pregnancy spacing, chronic energy deficiency (CED), and timing of the first antenatal care (ANC) visit. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using medical record data from 187 pregnant women who attended their first antenatal care (K1) visit at the Pantai Amal Community Health Center between January and December 2025. Data were analyzed using chi-square tests for bivariate analysis and multiple logistic regression to identify dominant risk factors, with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. Results: The prevalence of anemia was 28.9%. Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between anemia and pregnancy spacing (p=0.05), chronic energy deficiency (p=0.007), and timing of the first ANC visit (p<0.001). Multivariate analysis identified pregnancy spacing (aOR=0.45; 95% CI: 0.21–0.94; p=0.033), CED (aOR=3.24; 95% CI: 1.26–8.30; p=0.014), and timing of the first ANC visit (aOR=8.06; 95% CI: 3.73–17.41; p<0.001) as significant determinants. The timing of the first ANC visit emerged as the most dominant factor, with late initiation associated with an approximately eightfold increased risk of anemia. Conclusion: Anemia among pregnant women in Tarakan City is significantly influenced by pregnancy spacing, nutritional status, and particularly the timing of antenatal care initiation. Early ANC attendance and improved maternal nutritional status are critical strategies for reducing anemia prevalence. Targeted interventions focusing on optimal birth spacing and early pregnancy monitoring are strongly recommended.

Abstract

Equal access to health services is one of the main pillars of health development in Indonesia. Remote areas are often characterized by a lack of infrastructure, difficult transportation access, limited health support facilities, and cultural and social challenges. This condition leads to an uneven distribution of health workers, especially specialists, general practitioners, nurses, and midwives. Health workers tend to concentrate in urban areas, leaving significant service gaps in remote areas. The purpose of this research is to identify the factors influencing the retention of health workers at the Ropang Community Health Center. This study uses a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. Based on the analysis results, it was found that there is an effect of organizational commitment on health worker retention (p value=0.001), no effect of employee relationships on health worker retention (p value=0.696), and there is an effect of career opportunities on health worker retention (p value=0.016). The results of this study indicate that efforts to improve health worker retention in the Ropang District need to be carried out through strengthening organizational aspects and human resource management. Community health centers and local governments can use the findings of this research as a basis for improving the quality of work relationships, strengthening health workers' commitment to the organization, and providing clear career development opportunities. In addition, the results of the research can be a consideration in formulating policies that support the sustainability of health workers in remote areas.

Abstract

Patients with mental disorders are more susceptible to relapse due to non-adherence in taking their medication as scheduled. Lack of encouragement/motivation from family members to take their medication can lead to further non-adherence. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family support and medication adherence in patients with mental Illnesses in the X Community Health Center work area. In this study using a cross-sectional study design, the population in this study were patients with mental disorders as many as 110 respondents. The number of samples taken was 80 respondents. The study was conducted in the working area of the X Health Center, which was carried out from April to July 2026. The largest family support of respondents was in the good category as many as 46 respondents (57.5%). This is because the family is the closest person to the patient so it influences medication adherence. The largest respondent's medication adherence was in the compliant category as much as 73.3%. This can be seen from the majority of respondents who regularly go to the hospital to take medication and control the progress of treatment. There is a Relationship between Family Support and Medication Adherence of Patients with Mental Disorders in the Working Area of the X Health Center with a p value of 0.02. This research is expected to provide suggestions and input to improve family support in efforts to improve medication adherence in patients with mental disorders.

Abstract

Neck pain is one of the complaints that can be experienced by students due to their study activities in non-ergonomic positions for long periods. In this condition, tension can occur in the neck muscles, which can cause pain and interfere with daily activities. This study aims to determine the effect of stretching and strengthening exercises on neck pain in students, as well as to find out the difference in effects between the two exercises. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a two-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample in this study consisted of 30 students, divided into two groups: 15 students in the stretching group and 15 students in the strengthening group. The exercises were carried out 3 times a week for 4 weeks. The stretching group was given upper trapezius and levator scapulae exercises, while the strengthening group was given deep neck flexor exercise with chin tuck movement. Pain level was measured using the visual analog scale (VAS) before and after the treatment. For data analysis in this study, the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests were used. The study results showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores in both the stretching and strengthening groups with a p-value <0.001. The Mann-Whitney test also showed a significant difference between the two groups with a p-value <0.001. The stretching group had a mean rank of 21.60, while the strengthening group had a mean rank of 9.40. Future researchers are recommended to use a larger number of respondents, conduct the study over a longer period, and consider other factors that could influence neck pain.

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted as part of the Community Service Program (KKN) to improve public knowledge of proper medicine management based on the DAGUSIBU principles: Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of medicines. The activity was motivated by initial observations in RT 001, Malinau Kota District, Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan, which indicated that some residents stored medicines without checking expiration dates, reused leftover medicines, obtained medicines without consulting health professionals, and disposed of unused medicines with household waste. The activity was conducted on August 1, 2026 through a door-to-door approach involving residents of RT 001. The implementation stages consisted of observation, coordination, preparation of educational media, pre-test, health education, interactive discussion, post-test, and evaluation. Fifteen participants completed a ten-item questionnaire. The results showed that the number of correct answers increased from 107 (71.33%) in the pre-test to 125 (83.33%) in the post-test, while incorrect answers decreased from 43 (28.66%) to 25 (16.66%). Participants also demonstrated high engagement and were able to explain the main DAGUSIBU principles. These findings indicate that education supported by posters and interactive discussion can be a relevant approach for improving community knowledge regarding safe and rational medicine management.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in postpartum mothers can delay postpartum recovery, reduce energy levels, and impair a mother's ability to perform daily activities and care for her infant. Utilizing nutritious local foods is a potential approach to support postpartum recovery. "Berry and Root Fusion," made from strawberries and sweet potatoes, contains vitamin C, beta-carotene, antioxidants, fiber, and various micronutrients that may help increase hemoglobin levels and energy. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of Berry and Root Fusion on hemoglobin levels and energy levels in postpartum mothers. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach was used. Sixty postpartum mothers were divided into an intervention group and a control group, with 30 respondents in each. The intervention group received Berry and Root Fusion for 14 days, while the control group received standard care. Hemoglobin levels and energy levels were measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired-sample t-tests and independent-sample t-tests at a significance level of α=0.05. Results: The mean hemoglobin level in the intervention group increased from 9.84 to 11.63 g/dL (Δ=1.79 g/dL), whereas the control group increased from 9.81 to 10.42 g/dL (Δ=0.61 g/dL). Energy scores in the intervention group rose from 48.30 to 82.70, while the control group rose from 49.10 to 63.40. The differences in the increase of hemoglobin and energy levels between the two groups were statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Berry and Root Fusion is effective in increasing hemoglobin and energy levels in postpartum mothers and has the potential to be developed as a local food-based intervention to support postpartum recovery.
