Abstract

Occupational health and safety are crucial aspects of the working environment. To protect workers from the risk of occupational diseases, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) has become a common standard across various industrial sectors. PPE serves as the first line of defense for workers against different workplace hazards, including chemical, physical, and biological contaminants. This community service activity aimed to minimize the risk of occupational diseases and workplace accidents among employees of PT Standard Toyo Polymer (Statomer) in Cilegon City in 2025. The implementation involved lecture sessions and practical demonstrations. There were no significant obstacles during the activity, as participants were highly active in discussions. All participants shared their opinions freely, without fear or hesitation, while remaining focused on the topic discussed. The employees’ knowledge and understanding of PPE usage can be considered good, as the company regularly provides in-depth training on the proper use of PPE and explains its true benefits and functions in ensuring safety at work.

Abstract

Mental disorders are becoming increasingly prevalent across all age groups, particularly among adolescents. Given that adolescence is a transitional phase between childhood and adulthood, this activity was implemented due to the low level of understanding among adolescents regarding mental health issues and the persistent stigma associated with psychological problems. This community service activity aims to improve students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to mental health through audiovisual media-based health promotion. The implementation method includes preparation, intervention, and evaluation. The intervention involved screening educational videos on mental health topics, followed by interactive discussions and group reflections. Evaluation was conducted by comparing pre-test and post-test results. The results showed a significant improvement in students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors after the intervention. Students became more open and understood the importance of maintaining mental health, and were more willing to seek help if experiencing psychological distress. This activity received a positive response from both the school and students. Audiovisual media has proven effective as an educational tool for adolescents. Going forward, it is hoped that this program can be continued and incorporated into ongoing character development for students at school.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires long-term and consistent monitoring to prevent complications. However, low adherence to follow-up visits remains a significant challenge in primary healthcare settings, including at Cakranegara Public Health Center in Mataram City. Based on data from January to May 2025, only 62.6% of the total 957 DM patients returned for scheduled follow-up visits. This community service initiative aimed to implement and analyze the effectiveness of a digital innovation, SI-KEPPO (Educational Control Information System), in improving follow-up adherence among DM patients. The methods included needs assessment and the development of an Android-based SI-KEPPO application. Evaluation was conducted through observations and interviews with program officers and patients. The results demonstrated improved follow-up compliance during the 4-day trial period. Patients reported that the application made it easier to remember visit schedules and made them feel more cared for through regularly delivered educational messages. The SI-KEPPO application also enhanced family involvement in patient support and facilitated monitoring of non-compliant patients by program officers. In conclusion, the implementation of the SI-KEPPO innovation effectively increased follow-up visit adherence among DM patients, strengthened digital approaches in community health services, and is recommended for integration into the Prolanis management system at the primary healthcare level.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease with an increasing global prevalence. One of its most serious complications is diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), which often leads to infection, lower limb amputation, and decreased quality of life. Primary healthcare plays a vital role in early detection and prevention of DFU. This community service aimed to develop and implement the innovation “SIGAP KAKI DM” (Comprehensive Early Detection and Self-Education for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Prevention) at Puskesmas Panti, Jember. The program was designed to improve the knowledge and skills of healthcare workers in diabetic foot screening and patient education. Thirteen healthcare workers participated in interactive training sessions, consisting of lectures on DFU risk factors, demonstrations of foot examination techniques, and hands-on practice using monofilaments, tuning forks, and ankle-brachial index (ABI) measurement. Pretest and posttest evaluations showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge and skills, with “good” scores improving from 23.1% to 92.3%. Healthcare workers were able to perform diabetic foot examinations independently and educate patients on self-care practices. Educational materials such as booklets and posters were also developed to support patient empowerment in foot care. The innovation has potential to be integrated into routine services at primary healthcare centers to prevent DFU and reduce amputation rates among DM patients. Sustained implementation and cross-sector collaboration are recommended to ensure program effectiveness and long-term impact.

Abstract

Low adherence of patients with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and the elderly to scheduled follow-up visits remains a major challenge in primary healthcare services. This issue contributes to delayed detection of complications and reduced effectiveness in managing chronic conditions. This community service program aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the TERKONTROL application—an automated WhatsApp-based reminder system designed to improve the regularity of patient follow-up visits. The program was implemented at Dasan Agung Public Health Center using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, actively involving program officers, academic facilitators, and patients. The desktop-based application features patient data input, visit scheduling, a monitoring dashboard, and an automated reminder system. Implementation results showed that out of 16 patients who received reminder messages, 13 attended their scheduled visits, achieving a compliance rate of 81.3%. Evaluation revealed positive perceptions from both patients and healthcare staff regarding the application's usability and usefulness. These findings suggest that simple digital innovations such as TERKONTROL (Tertib Kontrol dan Respon Lanjut Pasien PTM & Lansia) can serve as effective tools for real-time patient monitoring, program reporting enhancement, and improved communication in primary healthcare settings.

Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia. Low public awareness, delayed diagnosis, and poor treatment adherence have worsened the spread of the disease. This community service activity aimed to enhance public understanding of TB prevention through a digital educational video based on the ACTIV-5 strategy, and to evaluate its effectiveness in improving knowledge scores before and after the intervention. The program was conducted from June 30 to July 2, 2025, using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design. A total of 172 respondents were purposively selected from a population of 302 individuals. Education was delivered by screening short videos based on the ACTIV-5 strategy in the waiting area of the health center. Respondents’ knowledge was measured using a structured questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. During the educational period, a total of 320 patient visits were recorded. Data were analyzed using basic quantitative methods. Pretest results showed that most respondents lacked understanding of TB symptoms and transmission mechanisms. After the intervention, there was a significant increase in knowledge scores, particularly in recognizing early symptoms and the importance of completing treatment. The average score improved by more than 40% from the baseline. In conclusion, the ACTIV-5-based educational video proved to be effective and holds potential as a sustainable educational strategy in primary healthcare services. It is recommended that the program be replicated in other public health centers to expand its promotive and preventive impact on TB control.

Abstract

Developing creativity in elementary school children is a crucial investment in developing individuals who are not only academically competent but also adaptive and innovative in the future. Crafts, particularly the creation of works from recycled materials such as used bottles, serve as an effective medium for nurturing children's creativity by engaging them in transforming waste into functional and aesthetic visual representations. This process not only improves motor skills but also stimulates holistic cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development, while fostering environmental awareness. This community service activity aimed to enhance the creativity of elementary school children through recycling-based art craft training. The training was conducted for two days at SDN 4 Kebonsari, Kebonsari District, Jember Regency, involving 30 students from grades 4-6. The method used was educative-participatory, focusing on idea exploration and art creation from used bottles. Evaluation was carried out using an assessment rubric measuring four aspects of creativity: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The results showed a significant increase in all aspects, with the highest average increase in flexibility. This activity also increased children's intrinsic motivation to create and awareness of the importance of recycling. Recycling-based art craft training is effective as a medium for stimulating the creativity of elementary school children.

Abstract

Immunization is one of the most effective health interventions to reduce morbidity, disability, and mortality caused by vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs). However, in practice, many children still experience delays in receiving basic immunizations, including those in Samba Danum Village, Central Katingan District. This community service activity aimed to improve parents’ knowledge about basic immunization and to conduct catch-up immunization for children aged ≥ 9 months who had not received immunizations according to schedule. The implementation method consisted of preparation, education through interactive lectures and discussions, catch-up immunization in collaboration with health workers, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test. The results showed a significant increase in parents’ knowledge, with higher average post-test scores compared to pre-test. In addition, catch-up immunization coverage reached more than 80% of the target group. This activity demonstrated that proper education and accessible health services can enhance community awareness and improve basic immunization coverage. In the future, similar activities are expected to be expanded to other areas with similar conditions, accompanied by continuous monitoring to ensure the sustainability of the immunization program.
