Maintaining oral and dental hygiene is an essential part of preserving overall health and preventing various diseases. To achieve optimal health, oral and dental hygiene must be properly cared for. One method to evaluate oral cleanliness is by assessing the oral hygiene status using the OHI-S (Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified). This study aims to determine the OHI-S status at Battalion B Pioneer Police Unit, BauBau City, Southeast Sulawesi. The research method applied was observational, involving direct oral examinations and the distribution of questionnaires. The study was conducted at Battalion B Pioneer Police Unit in BauBau City, Southeast Sulawesi. The results showed that the average OHI-S status of respondents fell into the moderate category, while knowledge levels about proper toothbrushing were categorized as good. Based on statistical analysis using the chi-square test, a significant relationship was found between OHI-S status and knowledge levels. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between OHI-S status and the level of knowledge about toothbrushing.

Oral health issues in Indonesia remain a serious concern, with 57% of the population experiencing dental problems, yet only 10.2% receive treatment. Malocclusion, which refers to an imbalance in tooth alignment, affects approximately 80% of the population and negatively impacts daily life, including psychosocial aspects. Research shows that malocclusion can affect self-esteem and appearance, requiring more attention in orthodontic care. This study uses an observational analytic method, where subjects are directly observed to investigate the relationship between two or more variables. The researchers only observe the subjects without providing any interventions. The research design used is cross-sectional, aiming to assess the relationship between independent and dependent variables at a single point in time without further analysis. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test shows no significant relationship between malocclusion and psychosocial status among adolescents at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar (p=0.149). Most respondents experienced Class 1 malocclusion with symptoms such as crowding, but their low knowledge and awareness influenced their perception of malocclusion’s impact on social life. Consistent with previous studies, these findings indicate that malocclusion does not significantly affect the psychology of adolescents. Malocclusion is most commonly found among female adolescents at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar

Coated tongue is a clinical condition characterised by the accumulation of debris, desquamated epithelial cells, and microorganisms on the dorsum surface of the tongue which can be used as an indicator of a person's general level of oral hygiene. This condition can be found in all ages and genders and is often associated with halitosis (bad breath). The onset of halitosis is due to the production of VSC (volatile sulfur compound) compounds by gram-negative anaerobic bacteria that colonise the surface of the tongue. Halitosis is a multifactorial condition that can negatively affect the quality of life and social relationships of sufferers. Therefore, socialisation efforts need to be made through education to all levels of society. This article aims to review the literature on the definition, aetiology, classification and various considerations in the management of coated tongue and halitosis in dentistry. Poor tongue hygiene is significantly associated with increased levels of VSCs and intensity of bad breath. Management strategies that include mechanical tongue cleaning such as the use of a tongue scraper have been shown to be effective in reducing halitosis levels. The role of dentists as health workers in the community is needed to create good oral health in the community, including efforts to optimise it through socialisation of maintaining tongue hygiene. Thus, coated tongue is an important etiological factor that needs to be considered in the evaluation and management of halitosis.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) is a large family of viruses that can cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to respiratory infections. Healthcare workers are among the frontline responders in managing the coronavirus outbreak, especially when special protection is required due to the limited availability of personal protective equipment during the pandemic. The pandemic has had a negative impact on all aspects of health, including dental care. Although all professional groups are at high risk of contracting Covid-19, healthcare workers are the most vulnerable, particularly during procedures that can generate splashes or aerosols. This study aims to identify the preventive measures taken against Covid-19 transmission among healthcare workers in the Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi. The research uses a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out through a survey using a questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. The data analysis technique used is descriptive. The results of the study show that both dentists and dental nurses in public health center and private clinics implement Covid-19 prevention measures and take more stringent actions before and after dental procedures in order to minimize the spread of Covid-19.

One way to overcome dental and oral health problems in elementary school children is to involve government programs, namely the School Dental Health Business Program (UKGS) in every elementary school. This study aims to explore the role of sports teachers in the implementation of UKGS and its impact on the incidence of dental caries. This research uses quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data was collected through def-t and DMF-T examinations to assess the status of dental caries in students, as well as closed interviews with sports teachers to understand their role in implementing UKGS. The research sample consisted of 66 grade 5 students and sports teachers. The main aim of the research is to identify the role of sports teachers in implementing UKGS and to determine the dental caries status of students. The examination results indicated that the dental caries status of grade 5 students was in the very low category. Sports teachers in the UKGS program act as educators, motivators and facilitators in managing dental caries status in schools, which contributes to achieving effective implementation of the UKGS program. It is hoped that good implementation of the UKGS program can reduce the risk of dental caries in students, thereby reducing the level of dental caries in children at school. Dental and oral health problems in Indonesia remain quite prevalent, with 57% of the population experiencing issues, yet only 10.2% of them receive treatment. One of the most commonly found problems is malocclusion, which refers to the misalignment of teeth and affects around 80% of the population. This condition negatively impacts daily activities, including psychosocial aspects. Previous studies have shown that malocclusion can affect self-confidence and appearance, thereby requiring special attention in orthodontic care. This study is an analytical observational research, in which the researcher directly observes subjects to identify relationships between two or more variables without administering treatment or intervention. The research design used is cross-sectional, which assesses the relationship between independent and dependent variables at a specific point in time without follow-up. The results of the bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test indicated that there is no significant relationship between malocclusion and psychosocial conditions among adolescents at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar (p = 0.149). Most respondents had Class I malocclusion, commonly in the form of crowding, but due to low levels of knowledge and awareness, they were less conscious of the social impact of their condition. In line with previous findings, this study concludes that malocclusion does not have a significant impact on adolescents’ psychological condition. All adolescents identified with malocclusion at the school were female, who also showed the highest prevalence.
