Abstract

Water pollution is a type of environmental pollution. Water pollution can be caused by wastewater containing pollutants that is discharged directly into water bodies or the environment. Domestic wastewater containing toxic substances can endanger the environment, human health, and the survival of other organisms. Therefore, domestic wastewater must first be treated before being discharged into water bodies. PT.X Paint Industry has a domestic wastewater treatment plant consisting of equalization, sedimentation and disinfection units. This study aims to identify an anaerobic biofilter treatment that is effective in reducing BOD and ammonia concentrations in domestic wastewater. Bioball media and Bacillus subtilis bacterial microorganisms were selected in this study as the proper components for use in anaerobic biofilter treatment in the PT. X paint industry. Bioball media has advantages such as a relatively large specific area and easy installation, while Bacillus subtilis microorganisms can reduce ammonia levels by 81.8% and BOD by 67.4%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mechanical properties of composites made from recycled polypropylene reinforced with natural ramie fiber (SR), ramie waste fiber (LR), and scraped ramie fiber (RK). Recycled polypropylene was used as the binder material, while ramie fiber (SR), ramie waste fiber (LR), and scraped ramie fiber (RK) were processed by alkalization to improve the adhesion between the layers. Composite fabrication was performed by varying the ratio between matrix and reinforcer A (70/30), B (60/40), and C (50/50) using a hot press machine. Tensile test was performed according to ASTM D-638 standard. The test results showed that the composite reinforced with scraped ramie fibers (RK) produced a maximum stress of 9.26 MPa at the A3 (70/30) ratio, and the highest strain reached 7.6% at the B3 (60/40) and C3 (50/30) ratios. The more uniform structure of scraped ramie fibers (RK) was shown to contribute to a better stress distribution compared to ramie fibers (SR) and ramie waste (LR). Thus, scraped ramie fibers (RK) can be identified as the most optimal reinforcing material for recycled polypropylene composites.

Abstract

Traffic accidents are a serious problem that affects the safety of road users, economic losses, and the quality of life in society. Tanah Laut Regency, as one of the areas experiencing rapid mobility growth, faces various challenges in maintaining traffic safety levels. The objective of this study is to evaluate the level of traffic safety on the highways in Tanah Laut Regency, represented by accident rates based on population size, road length, and severity indices. The calculation method follows the approach developed by Pignataro (1973), using data on the number of accidents and casualties recorded in Tanah Laut Regency. The results show that the accident rate per population will increase from 11.176 in 2020 to 26.640 in 2023, and then decrease to 25.903 in 2024. In terms of road length, the rate increased from 0.019 in 2020 to 0.047 in 2023, then decreased slightly to 0.046 in 2024. However, the severity index shows a decrease from 0.872 in 2020 to 0.696 in 2022, followed by an increase to 0.759 in 2023 and then a slight decrease to 0.717 in 2024. This indicates a decline in the road safety level in Tanah Laut Regency, and highlights the need for serious efforts by the Tanah Laut Regency Government, involving all relevant stakeholders, to address this issue.

Abstract

The need for high-rise buildings is increasing as land is limited. Buildings made of steel materials are very good at resisting lateral forces. It is very necessary to analyze the mechanical properties of steel to know that the material can effectively resist the load. Modeling of steel plate material with width of 10 mm, thickness of 1 mm and height of 20 mm. Modeling was done using the Abaqus program with four variations of shell radius 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2. Von Mises (tensile) stress results were obtained at the horizontal position of the basin at points A (radius point), B (center), and C (edge). For all modeling variations, the highest stress is at point A and then the stress value decreases to point B and then to point C. The most significant difference in value at each point is obtained for a radius variation of 0.2 with the value of each point A = 2.24059 MPa, B = 1.02566, and C = 0.64195. The steel plate variation with a radius of 0.2 has the largest deformation compared to the other variations. It can be concluded that the steel plate with a radius of 0.2 is more likely to be damaged. In the maximum principal stress value, the 0.2 radius variation also has the largest value compared to other variations.

Abstract

Black mold is a type of fungus that produces dangerous toxins known as mycotoxins, which can enter the body through inhalation, skin contact, or consumption of contaminated food. This fungus thrives in damp and dark environments and can cause various symptoms, including respiratory irritation such as cough, runny nose, sore throat, or difficulty breathing and skin problems such as rashes or itching. The research method employs a literature review approach using databases including Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, SpringerLink, JSTOR, PlosONE, Google Scholar, and SINTA. This study examines the potential health risks of black mold, focusing on environmental exposure, vulnerable populations, health effects, and remediation strategies. The literature review reveals that black mold exposure frequently occurs in damp indoor spaces. Populations at greater risk include children, the elderly, individuals with weakened immune systems, and those with chronic respiratory diseases. Health effects range from mild symptoms, such as eye and nasal irritation, to severe conditions like lung infections and neurological disorders, especially with prolonged exposure. This study concludes that black mold poses significant health risks and emphasizes the importance of prevention and timely remediation to address indoor mold contamination.

Abstract

Jetis Batik Industry in Sidoarjo is recognized as a prominent batik center in East Java.  Batik is known as an industry that uses both natural and synthetic dyes.  This can serve as a source of environmental pollution.  This study is to evaluate the quality of wastewater generated by Jetis Batik in Sidoarjo.  The determined quality is then evaluated according to Permenkes 02 of 2023 and PerGub Jatim Number 72 of 2013.  In this research, batik wastewater samples from 20 batik cottage industries in the Jetis region of Sidoarjo were used.  It is acknowledged that it does not meet the clean water quality standards set by the Minister of Health Regulation Number 02 of 2023 in terms of TDS parameters, turbidity, color, Fe, Mn, nitrate, nitrite, pH, and chromium.  Subsequent research in accordance with East Java Governor Law No. 72 of 2013 showed that TDS, pH, Fe, Mn, Cr, COD and BOD exceeded the quality criteria established by law.  In addition, according to the East Java Governor Regulation No. 72 of 2023, batik liquid waste is classified into categories I, II, III, IV, and seawater, which is considered unsuitable for discharge into the marine environment.  Immediate disposal of batik liquid waste into water sources without prior treatment poses a significant risk of environmental contamination.

Abstract

Construction projects inevitably encounter challenges related to time, labor, cost, and materials. If these issues aren't addressed promptly and effectively, new problems inevitably arise, such as delays in work duration, inefficient labor distribution, and delays in equipment and materials. The construction of the Amaris Hotel in Manado encountered significant challenges, particularly in structural work. A clear imbalance in labor allocation was identified, where the availability of labor in the field did not align with the project's needs. This discrepancy was exposed through unit price analysis of daily reports. This study aims to optimize human resources using the Resource Leveling method with Microsoft Project 2021 Software, addressing the ground floor structure to the roof floor. The results of the analysis showed that the duration of time required after the analysis did not change, namely 303 days. The study also determined the number of effective workers: 63 laborers, 34 builders, 3 foremen, and 3 building foremen.

Abstract

This study will analyze the factors that influence the choice of public transportation modes in Sudu Central Market. The study will focus on two types of transportation modes: pete-pete cars and motorcycle taxis. We used the binomial logistic regression method to identify the variables that influence user decisions in choosing between the two modes of transportation. The study surveyed 100 respondents, testing variables such as cost, travel time, comfort, safety, frequency, and accessibility. The results are clear: comfort, travel time, safety, and accessibility have a significant influence on the choice of transportation modes, with a p value <0.05. The results are clear: the more comfortable, faster, safer, and more accessible the transportation mode, the greater the chance of users choosing a pete-pete car. Conversely, costs had a negative effect, where higher costs meant less likelihood of choosing a pete-pete car. The frequency of departure had no significant impact in this regression model.
