Abstract

Islamic boarding schools, as Indonesia's oldest Islamic educational institutions, play a crucial role in shaping the character and morals of future generations. Pesantren Satu Qur'an Jambi, established in 2015, aims to produce future leaders with noble character and independence. However, one challenge in tahfidz education is the lack of focus on developing skills relevant to the workforce. This study evaluates the impact of pesantren tahfidz education on students' employability skills and assesses how the curriculum supports their career preparation in both religious and non-religious fields. Using a qualitative approach, the research examines the effect of pesantren education on students' work skills and career choice alignment with their potential and interests. The findings indicate that students often face conflicts between spiritual goals and worldly needs, requiring career counseling guidance to better plan their future.

Abstract

Effective collaboration between school counselors and parents is increasingly recognized as a vital determinant of students’ psychological well-being. While extensive research has explored communication between teachers and students, fewer studies have specifically examined the counselor–parent relationship and its implications for student outcomes, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of counselor–parent communication and its role in enhancing students’ psychological well-being through a qualitative literature review. The review synthesizes findings from national and international research published between 2015 and 2023, focusing on counselor–parent partnerships, communication strategies, and student well-being. Data were obtained from journal articles, books, and conference proceedings, and analyzed thematically to identify patterns, challenges, and best practices in counselor–parent collaboration. Findings highlight that effective communication is characterized by respect, empathy, clarity, and humility, enabling counselors and parents to build mutual trust and cooperative relationships. Moreover, communication serves not only to exchange information but also to align expectations, reduce conflict, and strengthen support systems that directly influence students’ emotional resilience and school engagement. These results resonate with international literature emphasizing parental involvement as a predictor of student adjustment and well-being. This study contributes to the literature by situating counselor–parent communication within the broader discourse on educational counseling and psychological well-being. Practically, it provides insights for schools and policymakers to design communication frameworks that foster collaborative partnerships between counselors and families.

Abstract

Guidance and counseling services in schools play a critical role in supporting students’ academic, personal, and social development. However, the effectiveness of these services depends largely on how they are managed and delivered, particularly through appropriate media. This study aims to analyze the management of GC services through face-to-face media at SMA Negeri 1 Wanayasa, focusing on planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through interviews with counselors, classroom observations, and documentation review, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings indicate that counselors employ several types of media, including counseling boards, problem boxes, leaflets, and innovative digital tools, to facilitate direct interaction with students. These media function not only as communication channels but also as management instruments that structure and expand the reach of GC services. Despite challenges such as time limitations, large student numbers, and inadequate facilities, the school’s flexible management strategies and continuous evaluation ensure that GC services remain effective. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting how face-to-face media, when strategically managed, can enhance counseling accessibility and student engagement in the Indonesian secondary school context. The findings provide practical implications for school counselors and administrators seeking to strengthen GC management, and they open avenues for comparative studies on the integration of traditional and digital media in school counseling services across diverse cultural settings

Abstract

Becoming widowed in old age is a major challenge for women, often accompanied by grief, financial vulnerability, and social marginalization. However, many widows demonstrate resilience, namely the capacity to adapt and even grow when facing adversity. This study explores resilience among elderly widows in Lombok, Indonesia, within the cultural framework of the Sasak community. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected from three participants through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed with Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that resilience develops through four interrelated stages: succumbing, survival, recovery, and thriving. Initially, participants experienced deep sorrow, but gradually adapted by reorganizing routines, relying on religious practices, and strengthening family and community ties. In some cases, this adaptation extended to the thriving stage, where widows discovered new meaning and contributed actively to their families and society. This resilience was supported by internal factors—such as spirituality, optimism, self-efficacy, and emotional regulation—as well as external support, including family, community networks, cultural norms, and health services. The study enriches resilience theory by confirming a staged and ecological model, while also accounting for specific cultural pathways shaped by spirituality and collectivist traditions. Practically, the findings underscore the importance of culturally grounded interventions, integrating spiritual practices, family support, and community care into counseling and social welfare programs for widows. Thus, adaptation to spousal loss is not only a psychological process, but also a culturally embedded pathway of recovery and growth.

Abstract

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) has become an increasingly prevalent psychological issue in the digital era, often associated with maladaptive cognitions, fragile self-structures, and interpersonal dysfunction. While psychoanalytic and cognitive-behavioral approaches, including schema therapy, offer effective clinical interventions, they frequently face resistance and limitations in addressing the existential and moral dimensions of narcissism. In Islamic spirituality, narcissistic traits correspond to takabbur (arrogance), ujub (self-admiration), riya (ostentation), sum‘ah (seeking reputation), and hasad (envy), all of which are considered spiritual pathologies requiring tazkiyat al-nafs (purification of the soul). This study employs a conceptual and integrative literature review to synthesize psychological frameworks with Sufi teachings, proposing a three-level integrative model: (1) cognitive-behavioral restructuring, (2) emotional-spiritual regulation through practices such as muhāsabah and dhikr, and (3) existential reorientation grounded in zuhud. Findings suggest that integrating psychological therapies with Sufi practices enriches treatment by addressing not only symptoms but also the moral-spiritual roots of narcissism. The article concludes that this integrative framework offers both conceptual contributions to the literature on NPD and practical implications for culturally congruent counseling and psychotherapy in Muslim societies, while also providing a basis for future empirical validation.

Abstract

Homelessness and begging remain persistent social problems that require comprehensive and context-specific interventions. This study analyzes the social rehabilitation strategies of Harapan Mulya Social Shelter in Jambi, Indonesia, which plays a central role in managing homeless individuals and beggars through institutional care. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with shelter staff and beneficiaries, participant observations of daily activities, and document analysis. Data were examined using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model to identify themes related to institutional strategies and their implementation. The findings reveal that the shelter adopts a structured four-stage rehabilitation pathway: outreach, resocialization, evaluation, and termination. Outreach establishes trust and provides immediate relief, while resocialization offers spiritual guidance, social counseling, and vocational training to foster independence. Evaluation functions as a feedback loop to monitor progress and adapt programs, and termination prepares beneficiaries for reintegration into society. These strategies demonstrate a holistic model of intervention that addresses both psychosocial and economic needs. However, the effectiveness of these efforts is shaped by supporting factors such as regulatory frameworks, government funding, and committed staff, as well as hindering factors including limited professional resources, inadequate infrastructure, and socio-economic inequalities that contribute to relapse. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting how social rehabilitation operates in a resource-constrained Southeast Asian context, extending global discussions on homelessness management. It also offers practical implications for policymakers and practitioners seeking to strengthen institutional care through integrated, culturally grounded, and cross-sectoral approaches.
