Abstract

The difference in understanding between writers and readers in interpreting the meaning or value of literature can be called deconstruction. This research aims to (1) describe the structure of the social conditions of society in the novel Sang Keris written by Panji Sukma, and (2) deconstruct other values that have been found, as a sign of logocentrism in the novel. This research is descriptive qualitative research using data cards as a tool. The data in this study are in the form of fragments of dialog sentences between characters and narratives. The data collection technique in this research uses heuristic reading technique and the data analysis technique used is hermeneutic technique. Based on the research, it can be concluded that the novel Sang Keris tends to tell stories of the past. There are a number of deconstructed meanings or social values in the novel that can be integrated into today's society. These values include: (1) loyalty, (2) courage, (3) honor, (4) self-discovery, (6) morality, (7) love and sacrifice, and others. This deconstructive thinking can be implemented for students to identify various layers of meaning in studying literary texts or used by other researchers for other studies.

Abstract

The difference between a common translation and user interface localization for a technology product has raised big questions regarding the implementation of its translation strategy. This research attempts to answer this inquiry by analyzing the tendency of translation strategies used in the localization process for social media Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Youtube from English to Indonesian. The method used in this translation is qualitative descriptive, focusing on the text elements in the user interfaces from all three social media. The data were collected through a direct exploration of all three social media user interfaces in both English and Indonesian versions. The data from this research are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences presented in each user interface. From the data analysis, it is concluded that the most dominant translation procedure in the localization process of all three social media is naturalization. Meanwhile, the method and ideology applied are semantic translation and foreignization. This finding provides insight into the importance of translation strategies in localization for social media applications and how this process affects Indonesian users' experience. The results of this research also provide that every localization process does not have to be dominated by a domestic translation strategy as the name suggests. In fact, most technology product localization is translated with a foreignization approach to maintain consistency across platforms.

Abstract

Superior views circulating in society can draw out small narratives, but in this novel, there are inferior views from many of society’s views. The purpose of this research is to find the binary opposition of figure and image of Jakarta in novel Jakarta Rock ‘n Roll by Sekar Ayu Asmara because many people still believe in the grand narrative. In fact, there are still many realities hidden behind the grand narrative. The researcher uses Derrida's deconstruction theory to find binary opposition in novels and uses the literature technique. In the stage of analysis, the researcher divides it into four stages, classification, reduction, analysis, and conclusions. The results of this study show deconstruction value contained in various characters from the public's view and image of Jakarta city which has the reverse side of many public views. This research contributes to seeing different views from common views in society that are universal. Universal values are reviewed through this research so that readers can see the inferior values of figures and image of Jakarta.

Abstract

Puro Ae represents the local wisdom of the Lamaojan community in East Flores Regency, which is highly relevant in efforts to conserve the marine environment. This research aims to describe the implementation of the Puro Ae tradition, and the values embedded within it as a medium for marine conservation grounded in the local wisdom of the Lamaojan community. The data source for this research is the Puro Ae tradition. The study employed a qualitative methodology with a focus on interpretive descriptive analysis. The data consists of utterances containing marine conservation values. Data collection methods included observation and interviews with traditional elders in Lamaojan. The collected data were then reduced and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's framework. The findings reveal that: 1) Puro Ae is interpreted as the closure of the sea or the designation of a restricted marine area. There are two stages in this tradition: the "elo krowi" stage (conveying intentions and seeking blessings) and the peak ritual stage of Puro Ae; 2) the values embedded in the Puro Ae tradition include harmony, ecological awareness, life preservation, and cooperation. These values can serve as a learning model for efforts to conserve the marine environment based on local wisdom.
