Abstract

Superior views circulating in society can draw out small narratives, but in this novel, there are inferior views from many of society’s views. The purpose of this research is to find the binary opposition of figure and image of Jakarta in novel Jakarta Rock ‘n Roll by Sekar Ayu Asmara because many people still believe in the grand narrative. In fact, there are still many realities hidden behind the grand narrative. The researcher uses Derrida's deconstruction theory to find binary opposition in novels and uses the literature technique. In the stage of analysis, the researcher divides it into four stages, classification, reduction, analysis, and conclusions. The results of this study show deconstruction value contained in various characters from the public's view and image of Jakarta city which has the reverse side of many public views. This research contributes to seeing different views from common views in society that are universal. Universal values are reviewed through this research so that readers can see the inferior values of figures and image of Jakarta.

Abstract

Local wisdom is an idea, knowledge, norms, ethics, and morals that are in accordance with community life and sustainable with the environment. The existence of traditional activities is one part of the symbol of existing local wisdom. The Peseujeuk tradition is a tradition with local wisdom originating from Aceh and is a local wisdom based on existing traditions. This study aims to understand the value of traditional activity videos for BIPA students in terms of the use of audiovisual media with local cultural content. This article discusses the use of traditional activity videos in Aceh as learning media for junior high school BIPA students. The researcher found that the video seemed significant to students' understanding of traditional culture in Aceh, especially the Peuseujeuk tradition through the practice of speaking and writing that they had done in the BIPA class. Although still lacking in terms of affixes, formal and informal contexts, punctuation and conjunctions, and understanding of meaning. This article concludes that based on these findings, further research on this topic is needed to improve BIPA teaching and learning, especially in junior high school classes.

Abstract

Puro Ae represents the local wisdom of the Lamaojan community in East Flores Regency, which is highly relevant in efforts to conserve the marine environment. This research aims to describe the implementation of the Puro Ae tradition, and the values embedded within it as a medium for marine conservation grounded in the local wisdom of the Lamaojan community. The data source for this research is the Puro Ae tradition. The study employed a qualitative methodology with a focus on interpretive descriptive analysis. The data consists of utterances containing marine conservation values. Data collection methods included observation and interviews with traditional elders in Lamaojan. The collected data were then reduced and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's framework. The findings reveal that: 1) Puro Ae is interpreted as the closure of the sea or the designation of a restricted marine area. There are two stages in this tradition: the "elo krowi" stage (conveying intentions and seeking blessings) and the peak ritual stage of Puro Ae; 2) the values embedded in the Puro Ae tradition include harmony, ecological awareness, life preservation, and cooperation. These values can serve as a learning model for efforts to conserve the marine environment based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the discourse that produces a way of living together in the diversity of society in Kampung Solor, Kota Lama District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province.  The research  method  used  is  qualitative.  The selection of  this  method  is  a consequence of the research data in the form of words, phrases, sentences and paragraphs obtained through in-depth interviews. Data analysis at the selected coding stage refers to systematization and structuration  activities.  In this  step,  the  selection  of  core  categories  or central phenomena that systemically connect to other categories is carried out, prioritizing the validity of these relationships and filling categories that require filtering and development. At this stage, a conditional matrix is created which refers to the possibility of adding or subtracting, and changing the statement of a fact based on the differences of context, condition, characteristic of social action, implication, and possible differences in perspective. The analytical framework refers to the Fairclough's perspective which focuses on three dimensions; they are text, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. The text dimension (microstructural) is linguistically analyzed, by looking at vocabulary, semantics, and syntax. Discourse practice (mesostructural) is a dimension that deals with the process of text production and consumption. Sociocultural practice (macrostructural) is a dimension related to the context outside the text. The research findings show in the results of text analysis, discourse practice, sociocultural practice that the ideology of tolerance revealed in the discourse is:   (a) diversity is important and is God's creation. Humans only act as caretakers of diversity. (b) Diversity is a divine beauty. The task of human is to take care of the togetherness in order to strengthen social solidarity. (c) conflict resolution should be through deliberation by prioritizing humanistic feelings. In short, brotherhood is more important than differences.

Abstract

Adapting the short story Malim Pesong is considered as a process to create new activities that can then be used as a reference for new creative processes in learning while introducing local writers to students. The purpose of this study focuses on the creative process of creating the adaptation of the short story Malim Pesong into a drama script and to explain the process of adapting the Malim Pesong drama script into teaching materials in drama texts for grade 8 junior high school. This study uses a qualitative research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of this study found that there were several processes of adaptation from short stories to drama scripts so that they could be used as teaching materials, going through stages such as: 1) Understanding the intrinsic elements of short stories; 2) Classifying parts of short stories into scenes; 3) Writing drama scripts; 4) Classifying changes that occur in the adaptation process; and 5) The process of adjusting the results of the adaptation as teaching materials. The findings in this study indicate that the phenomenon of adapting a literary work into a drama script is very good if it is carried out massively in the learning process. Adapting a work as teaching material is important to increase students' knowledge in the process of creating drama scripts. This creation can have an impact on increasing knowledge and become a new way for the community to develop drama scripts with new stories through short stories chosen by the community.

Abstract

Two novels by Adi Bombang titled Kun Fayakun and Dan, Dialah Dia are very strong in telling stories with visual imagery. The problem of how the author Andi Bombang presents visual imagery in his two novels will be discussed in this study. The study of imagery in novels will provide enrichment for the training of techniques for building novel language. The approach used in this study is a stylistic approach using Leech's theory. The data of this study is the use of majas in two religious novels Kun Fayakun and Dan, Dialah Dia is the dominant one to present visual imagery. The results of the study show that the visual imagery in these two novels is present in the form of personification and hyperbole. The function of imagery in these two novels is not only to beautify the language, but also to strengthen the themes, create an atmosphere, and reveal the conflicts that exist in the story. The meaning of imagery in these two novels is also closely related to the moral message and life values that the author wants to convey. This study found that the use of visual imagery in both novels by Adi Bombang is very effective in depicting the character's mood, reinforcing major themes such as life and spirituality, and revealing inner conflicts in the narrative. In addition, the figurative language techniques used, such as personification and hyperbole, not only beautify the language but also provide emotional depth to the story. This research provides benefits for society, and the development of science, especially readers and literary reviewers, in understanding the power of language in depicting emotional and spiritual realities through visual imagery. In terms of scientific development, this study enriches the discourse of stylistic theory, especially in understanding how visual imagery can be applied in literature to enrich the reader's experience and deepen understanding of universal life themes.
