Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country with high intensity of sunlight. Exposure to high ultraviolet rays from sunlight on the skin for a long period of time brings negative impacts such as sunburn, erythema, and skin cancer. Counteracting the negative effects of sun exposure, natural sunscreens that are less toxic such as combination of Cinnamomum burmannii and Haematococcus pluvialis extracts are needed. Cinnamaldehyde as the high active compound in cinnamon extract is able to absorb UV-B rays due to a chromophore group in the form of an aromatic ring conjugated to carbonyl group, along astaxanthin content in the Haematococcus pluvialis which is able to ward off free radicals and has an anti-inflammatory function that the combination will be an effective sunscreen active ingredients. The study aims to develop an oil-in-the-water emulsion-type cream that is added as an active ingredient in a combination of Haematococcus pluvialis and Cinnamomum burmannii extracts to produce a sunscreen cream. The combination extracts was tested in vitro with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and the SPF value. The cream was physically evaluated including homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, pH, and organoleptic tests as well as in vivo test using mice (Mus muculus). The results indicated that the cream formulas qualified for the physical standards, yet the viscosity value unqualified the standard . The in vitro test showed that the highest SPF value reached SPF 12 for the S2 formula with maximum category. In vivo test showed that the entire formula could protect the skin from exposure to UV-B rays by exoterra lamps.

Abstract

Compounding plants into health ingredients is a promotive-preventive-based health culture, which was identified in the Research on Medicinal Plants and Herbs (Ristoja). The regeneration of traditional healers who mastered herbal formulation is not going well, documentation must be carried out for better knowledge transfer process. This study documented the traditional use of plants to preserve health and fatigue, using data from Ristoja 2012, 2015 and 2017, obtained from the National Institute of Health Research and Development (Indonesian Ministry of Health), data were analyzed descriptively. The data inventory includes grouping of species-family, plant parts, method, frequency, and duration of use, cultivation/non-cultivation, origin, and method of obtaining plants. The results show that the ingredients to preserve health and relieve fatigue have a large diversification, namely 33 families and 60 species. The most widely used are from families Zingiberaceae and Myrtaceae; species Z. officinale, C. domestica, C. xanthorrhiza, P. guajava, S. aromaticum, and S. Polyantum; parts of plant leaves (71,7%) and roots (38,3%;, originally from yards, forests, and fields/gardens; mostly consumed once/day (76,7%). Plants that have been used as ingredients to preserve health and relieve fatigue have several mechanism of action, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, glycemic control, blood pressure control, and others.

Abstract

Neonates are particularly susceptible to infections caused by exposure to microorganisms during labor or shortly after birth. Some neonates require treatment in the NICU and perinatal rooms because of cases of infection that require antibiotics as therapy. This study aimed to determine the pattern of antimicrobial administration, antimicrobial rationality, and its relationship to clinical outcomes. This study used a cross-sectional design with prospective data collection using the medical record of neonates in the NICU and Perinatal rooms at RSUD Banjarnegara during November 2020-January 2021. The samples in this study were all neonatal patients who received antibiotics. Evaluation of antibiotics use was carried out using the Gyssens method. Descriptive analysis was conducted to determine the description of the research sample and the antibiotics used. A total of 131 samples had normal birth weight characteristics of 71%. The single antibiotic most frequently used as amoxicillin (21 patients), and the combination antibiotic was ampicillin+gentamicin (106 patients). The results of the evaluation using the Gyssens method showed that patients received 265 antibiotics, 85.55% were in category 0, 8.75% in category IIa, 3.8% in category IIIb, and 1.9% in category IIb. Of the 131 neonates treated, 124 patients were declared improved and 7 others died. The correlation between antibiotic rationality and clinical outcomes was analyzed by Chi-square, the result of the Asymp value. Sig (2-sided) 0.138 which means there is no relationship between the two. The rationality and effectiveness of clinical outcomes of antibiotics used during the study were considered good because the number of patients who were discharged with improved conditions was much greater than those who died.

Abstract

COVID-19 is associated with disseminated lung damage in patients, Dexamethasone can reduce lung injury caused by inflammation and there reduce the progression to respiratory failure and prevent death. This systematic review aimed to determine the benefits and safety of Dexamethasone in COVID-19 treatment. The study was performed by a comprehensive literature search which were published in several databases i.e., PubMed, Science Direct, VHL Regional Portal, and ClinicalTrials.gov within the search time of 28 November 2020. Inclusion criteria were articles on the study on COVID-19 patients who received Dexamethasone, observational and experimental studies on the outcomes use evaluation of Dexamethasone. Exclusion criteria are the articles that do not provide control in controlled studies and do not show clear research results on the use of Dexamethasone. An initial search from four databases by entering keywords resulted in 1,046 articles. After screening articles duplication we obtained 835 studies. Finally, 6 articles were obtained after we screened for the article that it can be obtained its full text and 5 articles joined in articles included in the meta-analysis. The analysis showed that Dexamethasone in Covid-19 patients could reduce the incidence of death within 28 days with RR of 0.78 (95% CI 0.57–0.97 P=0.13) compared with Methylprednisolone, Dexamethasone was compared without corticosteroids with RR 0.89 (95% CI 0.82-0.97 P=0.01). Dexamethasone also reduced mechanical ventilator use during treatment with RR 0.95 (95% CI = 0.86-1.05 P = 0.28) compared without corticosteroids. The conclusion from these results: the use of Dexamethasone can reduce the number of deaths in COVID-19 patients, especially severe and critically ill category patients.

Abstract

Corn is a food ingredient that contains carotenoids that are very potential in preventing cancer, adding endurance, as antivirals, fungi, and parasites, carotenoids are also good for vision, growth and reproduction. The highest carotenoid compound in corn is lutein which has potential as an immunomodulator. Honey is also immunomodulatory by triggering macrophages to produce cytokines involved in killing bacteria and tissue repair. The combination of corn and honey in one drink will produce a health supplement preparation that contains antioxidants and immunomodulators that are good for health. The goal of this study was to get the best formula of instant granules physically. Instant granules are made from corn kernels that have been dried with a combination of honey which is processed by dry granulation with variations of corn kernels FI & FIV (15%), FII & FV (25%), FIII & FVI (35%), and FI & FIV honey (35%), FII & FV (25%), FIII & FVI (15%). Instant granules are conducted physical test evaluations including organoleptic tests, flow time, angle of repose, compressibility index, time of granules to dissolve, particle distribution, pH, viscosity of reconstituted and RDA test. The results showed that the granule flow time, angle of repose, compressibility index, time of granules to dissolve, granules particle distribution and viscosity of reconstituted overall physical testing showed no noticeable differences, except against the most preferred taste parameters FVI. So the best formulation has obtained is FVI and shows the result of the RDA test with total energy of 350 kcal/100 grams.

Abstract

AVaginal atrophy is one of the most common health problems in postmenopausal women. The disease is characterized by decreasing layers and maturation index of the vaginal epithelium and an increase in vaginal pH. A decrease in vaginal acidity will increase the susceptibility to infections since acidic pH protects the vagina from pathogens infection. The previous study has proven that phytoestrogens were effective to improve the microstructures of the vaginal, reduce urogenital complaints, and improve vaginal pH. The purple sweet potato (Ipomea batatas L.) which is cultivated in Bali was recognized for its high anthocyanin content and was reported to have phytoestrogen activity. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of purple sweet potato on vaginal pH in an animal model of menopause. The randomized pre-test post-test control group design study was conducted using 36 bilateral ovariectomized female Wistar rats as an animal model of menopause. The animals were divided randomly into a control group (T0) which was given saline and a treatment group (T1) given an ethanolic extract of purple sweet potato 400 mg/day for 30 days. Vaginal pH was measured before treatment, every week during treatment, and after treatment. The result of the study showed that there was an increase in vaginal pH of the T0 on the 2nd and 3rd week, and after treatment (P

Abstract

Knowledge of traditional medicine is important for the formation of a person's activity in using traditional medicine. Preliminary studies conducted show the level of public knowledge about traditional medicine in the less category. This can be caused by a lack of desire to seek information and lack of education from health workers. For this reason, educational media such as e-booklets are needed. This study aims to see the level of public knowledge about traditional medicine after being given an e-booklet. This study uses a preexperimental method with a one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research is the residents of Karimun Regency who have used traditional medicine. The sample of this study was 150 respondents who were determined using purposive sampling method. The inclusion criteria for the study were that the respondent was at least 18 years old, had used traditional medicine with the logo and was registered with BPOM for at least the last 3 months, could use a smartphone and was willing to be a respondent. The research instrument is e-booklet media and knowledge questionnaire. The knowledge questionnaire used has been tested for validity and reliability (obtained 20 valid questions with an r value of 0.881). Uni-variate data analysis to describe the level of knowledge and bi-variate analysis was carried out for the analysis of changes in pretest and post-test knowledge scores using the Wilcoxon test. The results obtained before giving the e-booklet are good knowledge as much as 6.6%, sufficient as much as 55.4% and less as much as 38% while after being given the e-booklet the knowledge of respondents with good category is 55.4%, enough is 38% and less as much as 6.6%. Bi-variate analysis obtained p value 0.000. It can be concluded that the given media has a significant effect on respondents knowledge.
