Abstract

Economical contribution of women in merchant-chart-fried chicken business in satellite market in padang cityABSTRACT. As social-economic demands increased, the complexity of family needs grew higher. To fulfill them, woman has to take part in making a living. This research aims to see economical performance of women in running merchant-cart-fried-chicken, identifying the obstacles faced and giving alternatives of solution. This research was conducted by survey method, with respondents of merchant-cart-fried-chicken seller in several markets in Padang city. Sample was taken with proportional allocation of 15 people. Data was analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The research showed that economical performance of women merchant-cart-fried-chicken seller is low with working hour o5 5.07 hours/day. Percentage of women that take part in all activities start from planning to marketing is 32.5%. This is a potential business to develop, with average income 92.259,58 IDR/day and average R/C ratio 1.29. Internal constraints were family relation pattern that scoped womens part in fulfilling family need, meanwhile the external constraints were the difficulties in acquiring more capital to develop the business and the price fluctuation of chicken as a main raw material. Alternative solution that can be offered was opening the business at home so that women can spare more time to work the business and accessing soft loan with light requirements. The conclusion of the research was that women took part in making a living for the family, however the contribution is low due to patriarchy value as an internal constraint and capital problem as external constraint. The solution offered was taking soft loan and building relation with raw material supplier.

Abstract

The effect of jaloh extract combined with probiotic and chromium on the haematology profiles and ND antibody vaccine of broiler given heat stressABSTRACT. The purpose of this study is to determine the respons of chicken broiler under heat stress that given drinking water contained extract jaloh combined with probiotic and Cr mineral in the profile of haematology and antibody respons of Newcastle Disease vaccine. Twenty four of 20-day old Cobb broiler chickens were randomly assigned and devided to 6 treatment groups. Completely randomized design was used in this study. The treatments were as follows: 1) chickens under heat stress, given jaloh extract, probiotic, and chromium (P1); 2. chickens under heat stress, given jaloh extract and probiotic (P2); 3. chickens under heat stress, given jaloh extract and chromium (P3); chickens under heat stress, given jaloh extract (P4); 5. chickens under heat stress without given jaloh extract nor chromium and probiotic (P5); and 6. chickens given no heat stress and jaloh extract nor chromium and probiotic (P6). Extract jaloh dose applied is 1.000 mg/lt water, dose of probiotic is 108 cfu/lt drinking water, and chromium given in the form of chloride chromium with dose 1000 ug/lt water. Local heat stress is provided by increasing cage temperature to the range of 33.0 1C during 5 hours per day u within 15 days. Jaloh extract, probiotic, and chromium treatments in drinking water were given at 2 hour before cage temperature reaching 33 1oC and were stopped being given after 1 hour, when cage temperature back to room temperature. Blood was taken before chickens were ethanuatiated. The result suggested that giving jaloh extract to combine it with probiotic, and chromium has no significant effect in hematology profile. When combined extract jaloh with chromium (Cr), has potencial capability to stimulate improvement built of antibody (as immunomodulator) on broiler chicken heat stress.

Abstract

Prediction for carcass weight and conformation of local goat by slaughter weight predictor using some regression modelsABSTRACT. The goat population of Indonesia is concentrated in Central Java province especially under smallholder farming areas, and mostly their function is the production of meat. Local breed (Jawa Randu and Peranakan Etawah Crossbred) are very common raised by samallholders in Banyumas areas. The local kids are raised with their mothers and slaughtered after post weaning (68 months old). Carcass characteristics are important criteria for consumers and it could be taking into account. The objective of this study was to estimate the carcass weight and conformation of local goat by predictor of slaughter weight using some regression models. Eighty male of local goats (Peranakan Etawah and Jawa Randu crossbred), body weight ranged from 10-23.5 kg (6-8 months of age) resulted from village production system were used in this study. Carcass weight, dressing percentage, and carcass conformation were recorded. Ten models of estimation curve procedure were applied in terms of linear and nonlinear regression models. The analysis display relation between slaughter weight (X) and carcass weight and conformation (Y). The higher of determination coefficient (r2) and the lowest of the standard error means (M.SE) was found in the power regression model. Carcass weight of local goat (Y) could be effectively assessed by slaughter weight (X) using power regression model Y= 0.593907 (X 0,893021 ) or ln (Y) = ln (0.593907) + 0,893021 ln(X); and conformation carcass (Y) could be effectively predicted by slaughter weight (X) using power regression model Y= 14.995466 (X 0,267867 ) or ln (Y) = ln (14.995466) + 0,267867 ln (X).

Abstract

The effect of different litter materials on ammonia concentration of the air ambient stall and broiler performanceABSTRACT. The study was conducted to observe the effect of ammonia concentration of broiler chicken coop air to the treatment various types of litter. High ammonia concentrations would interfere with performance of broiler chickens and become a problem for the environment. A good litter quality is expected to address the problem of ammonia that occur in the broiler chicken coop. This study uses a completely randomized, with 5 litter treatments. T0 without treatment repose only black plastic as litter, litter composition T1 100% bran, 50% T2 litter composition husks and Charcoal Shell 50%, T3 50% 50% husk litter composition and zeolite 50%, T4 25% husks litter composition, 25% charcoal, 25% zeolite and 25% of the land. Each treatment was repeated 3 times, each test consisted of eight chickens. Parameters observed in the form of ammonia concentration of air cages at week four, weekly feed intake, weight gain per week, the final weight, feed conversion, and mortality. The results indicate different types of litter treatment was very real influence of ammonia concentration of air enclosure. T4 treatment with a 1:1 blend of each component of the litter that is used successfully absorb such a large aerial ammonia, which indicates the ammonia content of the air is the smallest compared with other treatment 4. While the treatment without litter showed a very large aerial ammonia compared with the treatment. Feed consumption results also showed that the treatment that produces a small value causes ammonia to be markedly higher consumption. Values for weight gain, final weight, feed conversion, and mortality are not significantly affected by various types of litter treatment.

Biotransformation of fish waste as feed matter for ruminantABSTRACT. Fish waste (head, viscera and tails) which ensilage with saccharomyces sp and lactobacillus sp, had a high quality and protein content of about 53,18 0,83% and a good aroma. An experiment have been conducted by experimental method with in sacco trial and in vivo trial. The treatment tested were 4 kind of protein source : (1) fish waste silages mixed with tapioca ; (2) fish waste silages mixed with rice bran ; (3) soy bean kernels and (4) fish meal. The in sacco trial was carried out on 3 fistulated cows, to study the rate of protein degradability in the rumen. The in vivo trial was carried out by Completely Randomized Design on 16 heads of fat tail rams. The variable measured were: rumen fermentation product (VFA and N-NH3); energy and protein digestibility; daily body weight gain of the rams. The experiment showed, that the source of protein use have no significantly effect upon VFA both on the VFA total and individual VFA (acetate, propionate and butyrate). The highest propionate reach by soya bean kernels (P 0.01). Based on the all variables measured, it was indicated the silage of fish waste can be used to substituted of soya bean kernels or fish meal in the ration of sheep.

Abstract

The effect of level substitution of single cell protein (CJ Prosin) by commercial feed on broiler performanceABSTRACT. A research to find out the effect of the substitution level of single cell protein in commercial feed on Broilers performance was conducted from June to December 2011. The purpose of this experiment is to find out alternative protein sources for animal feedstuff that can be used as protein substitution in animal feed on body weight, feed consumption and feed conversion efficiency. The experiment is considered as preliminary experiment to observe the response of single cell protein on broiler performance. This research was carried out at experimental farm, Animal Husbandry Department, Syiah Kuala University. Totally, 250 DOC of Cobb breed with the average body weight 36,782,32 gr. used in this experiment. Completely Randomized Design was applied in this experiment with 5 treatments; P0 (commercial feed), P1(commercial feed substituted with 6% SCP), P2 (commercial feed substituted with 12% SCP) dan P3 (commercial feed substituted with 18%CSP). Each treatment consist of 5 replications with total of 20 treatments units. Feed was formulated with isoprotein and isoenergy based on NRC requirement ( 23% protein ; 3200 kcal ME/kg at the age of 1-2 week and 20 % protein ; 3200 kcal ME/kg at the age of 4-7 week). Data was analyzed by using SPSS program SPSS (Window 2008). Differences between treatment were stated by Duncans multiple range test. The results of the experiment showed that commercial feed substituted with the level of SCP was not significantly difference (P0.05) on body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio. On the other hand, administration of SCP as substituted feed commercial on the level of 12 % and 16 % influenced significantly (P0.05) on body weight gain and feed conversion ratio, but not on feed consumption at the level of 12% SCP. As a conclusion, the use of SCP as animal feed sources in commercial feed only could be tolerated at the level of 6%.
