<![CDATA[This study sought to describe education-related conversations or talks of education (TE) from a systemic functional linguistics (SFL) perspective, focusing on how textual themes were deployed by speakers. TEDx talk, a reliable online source, was chosen as the source for the data used to support this study. The analysis’s validated data was the transcription of an education-related speech. Documentation, transcription, and in-depth textual fragmentation were the three primary techniques utilized during data processing and analysis. This study demonstrates, based on its findings, that the textual theme was not utilized in all portions of speech; it was the type of theme for which the speaker was required to provide further information. Despite the limitations of performance, a particular construction and functionalization have been applied to the textual theme. <![CDATA[Literary works has been used as objects of research as well as instruments for studying theories of language and literature. One of the literary works that is involved in linguistics and literature research is novel. This study aims at (i) finding the influence of dominant and arbitrary authorities, (ii) finding the resistance of the marginalized people against the authorities, and (iii) revealing the intelligence of the marginalized in doing an effort to fight against the authorities, in a novel entitled “Ken Arok dan Ken Dedes (Pertumpahan Darah Menuju Singgasana)” composed by Gamal Komandoko by applying Gayatri Spivak’s post-colonial theory. The present study uses a qualitative approach in which the data source is a novel of “Ken Arok dan Ken Dedes (Pertumpahan Darah Menuju Singgasana)” telling a coup story in Java. The research data are words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs, found in Komandoko’s novel, which are in line with Spivak’s post-colonial theory. The researchers used documentation or literature in data collection. For data analysis, the researchers used descriptive analysis technique. From the results of data analysis based on Spivak’s post-colonial theory, the influence of authorities which are dominant and arbitrary, the resistance of the marginalized people against the authorities, and high intelligence possessed by the marginalized to carry out a coup as a form of resistance against the authorities are found in the novel of “Ken Arok dan Ken Dedes (Pertumpahan Darah Menuju Singgasana)” by Gamal Komandoko.]]>

<![CDATA[Literary psychological scholars see psychological problems faced by a fictional character in a literary work as a reflection of the author’s awareness of similar phenomena that happen to a real person in real life. It becomes a trigger to why this research is conducted. This research aims to analyze the psychological condition of Greg Heffley, the protagonist in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2007), in his early teenage year. The theory used in this research is Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development. This research method is qualitative descriptive, where data is analyzed and presented in the discussion in detailed descriptions. Meanwhile, the primary data is text in the novel. The results show that Greg Heffley, as the protagonist, experiences role confusion due to the transition from childhood to teenage. He does not adapt well with his new environment. The situation is worsened by his unsupportive best friend, who still acts like a child when interacting with him. It is also found that Greg Heffley, at this stage, begins to be aware of his sexual and occupational identity. It is concluded that Greg Heffley finds it challenging and difficult to migrate from childhood to teenage with all his situation.]]>

<![CDATA[On the basis of a detailed study of the applicative phenomenon in the Belitong language done by Darmawan and Kaldina (2022), this paper suggests its symmetrical treatment specifically in terms of NP’s relativization strategies. Through the descriptive-qualitative research method, this paper identifies and describes the most accessible relativization strategies in Belitong as derived from applicative constructions. The data were collected through elicitation, unstructured open-ended interviews, and document analysis of previous literature works on the Belitong language. The data analysis process proceeded by employing qualitative data techniques and a careful linguistic typological approach, RG. The results of this study showed that: (1) A gap strategy is employed in direct relativization, and it accommodates the revaluation of core arguments (S and O), (2) indirect relativization allows the application of the passivization strategy on object properties of applicative constructions. Interestingly, two types of passives are permissible to account for indirect relativization. In type 1, the advancement of an O as the head of RC causes the demotion of the initial S to chômeur, morphologically marked by the prefix de- preceding the verb. However, in the passive type 2, the base subject does not reside in chômeur, yet it becomes the subject of the main clause with no prefix appearing on the verb.]]>

<![CDATA[The case study in this study used a subject named KH with mild intellectual disability which was seen through the subject's morphosyntactic abilities. In this study using the assessment method to determine the ability of KH in morphology and syntax when speaking in everyday life. The researcher asked KH to tell KH's daily activities and was asked to retell from the available pictures. From this research it can be concluded that KH in making sentences is capable and in accordance with sentence elements such as Subj-Pred-Obj-Ket-Conj. But in terms of morphological abilities, KH more often uses Pred with basic words in the sentences that are spoken than with affixed verbs. So that in that case it can cause confusion of meaning]]>

<![CDATA[This study analyzes the psychological effects of poverty on individuals using Rupert Brooke's play, "Lithuania," as a case study. The motivations behind the characters' murders are explored through a descriptive qualitative methodology that collects data from various sources, including literature and psychology. Applying Freud's psychoanalytic theory, the study highlights the profound impact of poverty on the characters' psyche, particularly their inability to control their id-driven desire for wealth. The findings emphasize the importance of understanding the psychological effects of poverty on people's behavior and decision-making, as well as the value of literature in comprehending human nature. The study sheds light on how societal attitudes towards wealth and poverty can impact our sense of morality and ethical decision-making. This investigation contributes to the growing body of research on the intersection between literature and psychology and has practical implications for policymakers and social workers dealing with poverty-related issues.]]>

<![CDATA[This research article discusses feminine death in three short stories: The Little Match Girl (1906) by Hans Christian Andersen, Dead Men's Path (1972) by Chinua Achebe, and The Story of an Hour (1969) by Kate Chopin. It aims to reveal the existence of extremity and sacrifice in the death of a woman. This study used a qualitative-descriptive design to reveal and investigate the phenomena and forms, or modes, of women's deaths. The theory of feminine death from Elizabeth Bronfen (2017) is used to reveal the extremity and sacrifice of a woman, and the theory of philosophical death and female finitude from Linnell Secomb (1999) is used to reveal the mode and symbols of feminine death. Based on Spradley's theory and analysis, we argue that the three short stories all have extremity and sacrifice; in the short story by Hans Christian Andersen, there is a mode or form of death called "being-towards-death." Furthermore, in the work of Chinua Achebe, there is a mode of death called "the master-slave battle to the death." Lastly, Kate Chopin produced "dwelling-with-death". The three short stories can be found in extremity, sacrificing, and feminine modes of death. Thus, the identification can reveal the feminine death phenomenon in the short story.]]>

<![CDATA[Racism is part of America's dark history. Racism seems to have never been resolved. This article examined how racism is narrated in The Lone Ranger Film. As genetic structuralism studies, The Lone Ranger film is exploited both intrinsically and extrinsically. At first glance, this film features American-Indian characters but with a white character. This is contradictory considering that American Indians are Native American tribes who have colored skin. Therefore, this film is used as an object of study to look at social construction, especially about Native Americans, which actually wants to be conveyed to the wider community, and the empirical reasons for this construction are shown. The research results showed that intrinsically, the character Tonto, played by Johnny Depp (a white), correlated to the economic purpose. As a mass culture, this film was produced to gain profits. choosing John Depp is a form of strategy to achieve the film's success because Johnny Depp is one of the top actors who has many fans. Portraying characters using well-known actors is one of the strategies for achieving the success of a film. Furthermore, this film showed how Native Americans are reconstructed by a new image. White and smart Americans are positive stereotypes. It is contradictive due to This is very contradictory considering that Native Americans are a group that has a negative stereotype. Native Americans are also a minority that experiences a lot of discrimination, especially from white or European-American groups. In conclusion, the stereotype of native Americans in the film Lone Ranger is constructed in different stereotypes showing how the whites (European-Americans) have always occupied a high position in the social strata. This film shows that Native Indians can have the same position in the social strata if their skin is colorless. This makes racism actually perpetuated through this film.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to investigate the Queen Elizabeth death metaphors in BBC and The Guardian. As an influential person, the death of Queen Elizabeth plays a significant role in the British public event. Then, it is essential to research how death metaphors are built in two famous online news. This research is a corpus-based study, and the source data obtained from news publishing about the queen's death. The data collected is approximately one month of the news after the queen's death. BBC consisted of 449.573-word tokens, and 519.773-word tokens was contained in The Guardian and the total of word tokens were 969,346. The conceptual metaphor theory by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) is used to identify the death metaphors. The result of this study is that all the death metaphors in BBC and The Guardian show the same concept. It means both online news had a similar cognitive view of the queen's death. The source domain is about spectacle, journey, end, ending of the journey, rest, and departure. The death metaphor is familiar in human life affected by experimental bases. In contrast, funeral metaphors are uncommon and strongly influenced by the social setting when publishing the news.]]>

<![CDATA[Political parties are a forum for Indonesian people from various ideological backgrounds as channels for the aspirations of a pluralistic society. The party's ideology is embodied in the vision and mission that the party aspires to when domination is obtained after the General Election is held. In this research, the anthem lyrics of the top three political parties, based on the 2019 legislative elections, were taken as the data and studied through a stylistic approach at the lexicogrammatical level to figure out the ideology in the realization of the vision and mission of the political parties. The method of the analysis applied descriptive qualitative through transitivity analysis in order to reveal the lexical and grammatical construction in the lyric. The typical processes used in each anthem characterized the cognitive frame of how the political parties set their vision and orientation towards the nation goals. It was found that the use of stylistic devices came in low frequency, including epizeuxis, parallelism, imagery, metaphor, symbolism, asyndeton and anaphora. The construction of clauses in the anthem lyrics has a significant impact in expressing the goals of political parties ideologically, so that the results of this study are expected to be an alternative reference that provides a paradigm for the voting community during the election period]]>
