Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the types of errors made by fifth-grade elementary school students in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based mathematics word problems on composite plane figures using Newman’s Error Analysis. The analysis stages include reading, comprehension, transformation, process skills, and encoding. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with four students as the subjects. Data were collected through a written test in the form of HOTS essay questions and documentation of students’ work. The results showed that students’ errors were more dominant in the process skills and encoding stages. Process skills errors were caused by a lack of accuracy in performing arithmetic operations, while encoding errors occurred because students did not write conclusions, measurement units, and currency symbols completely. Therefore, students’ errors were influenced by computational accuracy and their ability to communicate final answers. These findings indicate that students need practice in rechecking calculations and writing answers according to the problem context.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical problem-solving abilities of fourth-grade elementary school students in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) problems on the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Least Common Multiple (LCM) based on John Dewey’s problem-solving theory. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving five fourth-grade elementary school students selected through criterion sampling. Data were collected through essay tests and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities were generally categorized as good. Four subjects were able to complete all stages of John Dewey’s problem-solving process, including identifying problems, defining problems, developing solutions, testing solutions, and drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, one subject experienced difficulties in the solution-testing stage because not all available information in the problem was utilized. These findings indicate that John Dewey’s problem-solving stages can systematically describe students’ mathematical thinking processes and can be used as a reference for improving mathematical problem-solving abilities in elementary school learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implementasi metode demonstrasi dalam pembelajaran matematika terhadap pemahaman konsep operasi hitung penjumlahan dan pengurangan pada siswa kelas rendah sekolah dasar. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kepustakaan (library research). Data diperoleh melalui dokumentasi terhadap 15 artikel ilmiah nasional yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2018–2025 dan diperoleh melalui Google Scholar serta Semantic Scholar. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan teknik analisis isi (contentanalysis) melalui tahap reduksi data, pengelompokan temuan, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa metode demonstrasi secara konsisten mampu meningkatkan pemahaman konsep, hasil belajar, serta keaktifan siswa dalam pembelajaran operasi hitung penjumlahan dan pengurangan. Keberhasilan implementasi metode demonstrasi semakin optimal ketika dipadukan dengan penggunaan media konkret, seperti lidi, batu kerikil, kartu, stik es krim, permainan ular tangga, dan media manipulatif lainnya yang sesuai dengan karakteristik perkembangan kognitif siswa kelas rendah. Melalui kegiatan mengamati dan mempraktikkan secara langsung, siswa lebih mudah memahami konsep yang bersifat abstrak sehingga pembelajaran menjadi lebih bermakna. Dengan demikian, metode demonstrasi layak dijadikan salah satu alternatif pembelajaran matematika untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep operasi hitung pada siswa kelas rendah sekolah dasar.

Abstract

The development of AI technology has advanced and brought significant changes to the learning process and cognitive development of students. This article examines the positive and negative impacts of AI use, influencing factors, the actual implementation of AI use, and the roles of teachers and students in utilizing AI in learning contexts. Previous literature has found that AI can increase personal learning engagement and efficiency in accessing information, while simultaneously supporting critical thinking and creativity in students. However, dependence on AI leaves students less trained in critical and creative thinking in accordance with their individual potential. Therefore, the role of teachers is crucial in helping students ensure the effective and balanced use of AI. The method chosen is a qualitative approach, collecting journals and other literature sources, which are then analyzed and concluded.This article is expected to minimize the impact of AI use effectively and in a balanced manner and provide a foundation for educators to design safe and balanced AI learning models without diminishing critical thinking and creativity in students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management strategy of the Madiun City Public Library in increasing reading and literacy among the public post-COVID-19 pandemic. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with librarians, direct observation, and documentation. The results show that the library's organizational structure is under the auspices of the Madiun City Library and Archives Service, which is divided into three strategic areas. The library implements the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) classification system in compiling collections managed using INLIS Lite software from the National Library. To address the decline in post-pandemic visits, the library launched various integrated innovative programs such as the "Dewi Puspa" (City Library Tourism Destination) service for children, the free courier-based "Jarimu" (Book Pick-up and Delivery from Your Home) service, and the "Empok Remen" (Teen Writing Group) writing class program. The main obstacles faced include limited physical space, air conditioning capacity, and limited library material processing personnel, which are periodically addressed through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships and regional development budget submissions.

Abstract

Learning three-dimensional shapes in elementary schools remains challenging because the concepts are abstract, making it difficult for students in the concrete operational stage to understand the properties and elements of geometric solids. This study aims to describe the concepts and characteristics of concrete media, analyze their benefits, and examine their influence on students' conceptual understanding and mathematics learning outcomes in learning three-dimensional shapes. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature review. Data were collected from scientific journals, conference proceedings, classroom action research reports, and relevant reference books, and were analyzed using content analysis supported by source triangulation. The findings indicate that concrete media, such as cardboard boxes, cans, and balls, help students understand three-dimensional shapes through direct observation and object manipulation. In addition, the use of concrete media increases students' motivation, active participation, spatial visualization skills, and mathematics learning outcomes. Therefore, concrete media can be considered an effective learning strategy that supports elementary school students in understanding abstract mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter kewarganegaraan pada anak-anak, yang dalam artikel ini disebut sebagai “pahlawan kecil”, memiliki peran strategis dalam menyiapkan generasi penerus bangsa menuju cita-cita Indonesia Emas 2045. Perkembangan teknologi informasi telah mengubah pola belajar peserta didik, termasuk dalam mata pelajaran Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan (PPKn), sehingga media digital menjadi salah satu alternatif sarana belajar yang relevan dengan karakteristik generasi masa kini. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran media digital sebagai sarana belajar PPKn bagi anak-anak dalam menumbuhkan nilai kebangsaan, karakter Pancasila, dan kesiapan menyongsong bonus demografi 2045. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kepustakaan (library research), yang bersumber dari buku-buku pendidikan kewarganegaraan serta artikel jurnal terindeks Sinta terbitan tahun 2024. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa media digital seperti video pembelajaran, aplikasi gamifikasi, dan platform interaktif berbasis daring terbukti meningkatkan motivasi, hasil belajar, dan pemahaman nilai kewarganegaraan peserta didik. Namun demikian, pemanfaatan media digital juga menghadapi tantangan berupa kesenjangan literasi digital guru, keterbatasan sarana, serta risiko dampak negatif konten digital yang tidak terkontrol. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan strategi optimalisasi berupa penguatan literasi digital guru dan orang tua, kurasi konten yang mendidik.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical communication skills of fifth-grade elementary school students in solving open-ended story problems based on Vygotsky’s theory. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with five fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Puhti 2 selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through written tests and documentation of students’ work. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students’ mathematical communication skills were demonstrated through their ability to express mathematical ideas, explain solution steps, use mathematical symbols, present representations, and communicate conclusions. Although some students still experienced calculation errors, students were generally able to communicate mathematical ideas in solving open-ended problems.

Abstract

The topic of three-dimensional shapes is a mathematics unit taught in elementary schools that often poses challenges for many students. This difficulty arises because the concept of three-dimensional shapes is abstract, whereas the cognitive abilities of elementary school students are typically still at the concrete operational stage. Consequently, students often struggle to recognize three-dimensional forms, understand the relationships between the components of these shapes, and apply this knowledge when solving mathematical problems. To address this issue, there is a need for learning media that can present concepts in a more tangible way, thereby making the learning process easier to comprehend. This study aims to examine and summarize research findings regarding the effectiveness of learning media in enhancing elementary school students' understanding of three-dimensional shape concepts, utilizing a literature review approach. The study employed a literature review method, drawing upon scientific articles from accredited national journals and reputable international journals relevant to the research focus. Reference materials were gathered from various academic databases and analyzed using content analysis to identify patterns, similarities, and differences among published studies. The results indicate that the use of various types of learning media such as concrete objects, manipulatives, instructional videos, interactive presentations, animations, and Augmented Reality (AR) technology positively impacts the learning of three-dimensional shapes. These media not only help students better grasp concepts and develop visual-spatial skills but also boost learning enthusiasm, encourage active participation, and improve mathematics learning outcomes. The synthesized findings suggest that learning media are crucial for bridging abstract geometric concepts with tangible learning experiences, resulting in a more effective, meaningful, and learner-centered educational process. Therefore, selecting learning media that align with the nature of the subject matter and the students' cognitive developmental stage should be a top priority for improving the quality of instruction on three-dimensional shapes in elementary schools.
