Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of political figures on the victory of the Golongan Karya (Golkar) Party in the 2024 Legislative Election in North Sumatra Province. The study focuses on the role of Musa Rajekshah (Bang Ijeck) as the Chairperson of the Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of Golkar North Sumatra, who is considered successful in mobilizing public support through social capital, a positive public image, and effective political communication strategies. This research employs a quantitative method using a multiple linear regression approach, involving 400 respondents selected through a stratified purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests, followed by hypothesis testing. The results show that political figures have a positive and significant effect on voters’ decisions, with a coefficient value of 0.414, a t-value of 8.861, a significance level of 0.000, and a contribution of 61% (R² = 0.610). These findings confirm that local political figures can be a key factor in winning elections, even without support from national figures or the dominance of money politics practices. The practical implication of this study highlights the importance for political parties to maintain and develop the image of political figures who possess integrity, strong capacity, and emotional closeness to the community, supported by adaptive communication strategies tailored to different voter segments.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Small, Micro, and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Program within the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework of PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV (PTPN IV) Regional 1 Medan. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and Matland’s implementation model, the program was evaluated through four indicators: policy accuracy, implementation accuracy, target accuracy, and environmental accuracy. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from purposively selected informants, including CSR staff and SME actors. The findings show that policy accuracy is strong, as the program aligns with SME needs and the company’s mandate. Implementation accuracy improved significantly after loan management was transferred to Bank BRI, although training activities remain limited by short duration and insufficient mentoring. Target accuracy indicates that the program successfully reaches SMEs near operational areas, despite challenges related to SMEs’ internal readiness. From an environmental perspective, PTPN IV has effectively utilized its authority and networks, though improvements are needed through business-type-based training. Overall, the CSR SME program reflects commitment and adaptability, but its effectiveness can be enhanced through better training design and strengthened mentoring support.

Abstract

This study investigates the sociological evolution of communication within the digital society, focusing on the phenomenon of second accounts as a strategic response to the social pressures prevalent on primary social media platforms. Using a qualitative methodology and virtual ethnography approach, the research aligns with the constructivist paradigm, aiming to deeply understand how individuals navigate and construct their social identities in digital spaces. Data sources encompass a comprehensive collection of academic books, peer-reviewed journals, and scholarly articles that discuss the nuances of digital communication and identity construction. Data collection methods integrate virtual observation and in-depth interviews, capturing the authentic experiences of individuals who maintain second accounts. Analytical techniques are guided by thematic analysis, emphasizing the identification and interpretation of patterns related to digital identity and social interaction. Data validity is ensured through triangulation, comparing observational data, interview transcripts, and existing literature to affirm the consistency and reliability of the findings. The study reveals that secondary accounts serve as a crucial medium for individuals to express their genuine selves, free from the curated personas often necessitated by primary accounts. This practice not only reflects a tactical management of social visibility but also illustrates a complex negotiation between personal freedom and social conformity. In conclusion, the research highlights the dynamic nature of digital identities, shaped by ongoing interactions within social media ecosystems. Second accounts emerge as a significant social phenomenon, allowing individuals to craft segmented identities that offer respite from the public gaze, thus enriching our understanding of modern communication practices in the digital era.

Abstract

This article examines how international online gaming players navigate privacy boundaries in digital interaction, with particular attention to intimacy negotiation across cultural contexts. Using participant observation and autoethnography, the researcher immersed as a player in multiplayer games, joined guilds, and conducted interviews via in-game chat and external platforms. Findings reveal that privacy boundaries are managed through layered self- disclosure, reliance on game affordances such as guild and party systems, and the strategic migration of communication to platforms like Discord and WhatsApp. Cross-cultural differences are also evident: Indonesian players tended to be more cautious and gradual in disclosure, while Western players were more direct in revealing personal information. The study contributes to Communication Privacy Management (CPM) scholarship by highlighting the role of intercultural dynamics in digital intimacy and underscores the fragility of online relationships, which can be both rapidly formed and easily dissolved.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of digital literacy training in preventing cyberbullying and fostering virtual harmonization among students of Jabal Noor Integrated Islamic Junior High School. Using a quantitative pretest–posttest one-group design, the research involved 33 students from grades VII–IX who participated in a digital literacy training program. Data were collected through validated questionnaires measuring awareness of cyberbullying prevention and skills in maintaining ethical communication in virtual spaces. The results showed a significant increase in the average score from 64.33 (pretest) to 73.82 (posttest), with a mean difference of 9.49 points. A paired sample t-test yielded t = 20.06, p < 0.001, indicating a highly significant effect. The findings demonstrate that digital literacy training not only enhances students’ understanding of online ethics but also reduces the tendency to engage in cyberbullying while promoting inclusive and harmonious digital interactions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze in depth the phenomenon of ageism experienced by young workers in the industrial sector. This issue is rarely discussed, as previous studies have tended to focus on age discrimination experienced by older people. Using a qualitative approach and case study design, this study examines experiences of ageism among workers aged between 25 and 35 years. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and research from written sources to strengthen the existing theoretical framework. Findings from this study indicate that ageism against young workers manifests in the form of discrimination during the recruitment process, negative stereotypes about their abilities and character, and seniority practices that make age an indication of authority and competence. Structural factors such as traditional work hierarchies and cultural norms regarding the age of marriage also reinforce these age discrimination practices. In terms of theory, this study contributes to expanding the understanding of ageism by emphasizing that age discrimination can occur not only against older workers but also against young workers, thus necessitating a more inclusive analytical framework. Empirically, the results of this study underscore the importance of policy interventions and improvements in work culture in order to create a more inclusive industrial environment that is free from age discrimination.

Abstract

This study examines the sociological evolution of communication in digital society by focusing on secondary accounts as strategic responses to social pressure on mainstream social media platforms. Using a qualitative methodology and a virtual ethnographic approach within a constructivist paradigm, the research explores how individuals construct and negotiate their social identities in digital spaces. Data were drawn from academic books, peer-reviewed journals, and scholarly articles, and were complemented by virtual observations and in-depth interviews with users of secondary accounts. Thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns related to digital identity and social interaction, while data validity was ensured through triangulation of observations, interview findings, and existing literature. The findings indicate that secondary accounts serve as important spaces for expressing authentic selves beyond the controlled personas presented on primary accounts. This practice reflects both tactical management of social visibility and ongoing negotiation between personal freedom and social conformity. Overall, the study highlights the dynamic and segmented nature of digital identity within contemporary social media ecosystems.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of TikTok content from the account @buiramira on the ease experienced by final-year students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) in completing their final projects. “Students’ ease” is measured through respondents’ perceptions of how easily they can find information, understand the material, and apply the tips provided in @buiramira’s content. Using a quantitative method with questionnaires distributed to 50 Communication Science students at UINSU (based on Slovin’s formula with a 10% margin of error), the data were analyzed using simple linear regression, correlation, coefficient of determination, and t-tests. The results indicate a significant influence of @buiramira’s content on students’ ease (p < 0.05), with a contribution of 46.4%. This study concludes that educational content on TikTok can serve as a valuable source of information for students in completing their final projects and highlights the importance of delivering content that is clear, accurate, and easy to understand.
