Abstract

This thesis examines the types, the used and the reasons why language styles used in Fabrizio Romano on his Instagram account, using Martin Joos's theory and a qualitative descriptive method.  There are five styles proposed in Joos theory. The source of data is Instagram and there were 50 captions founds as the data. Those captions in Fabrizio’s instagram were analyzed in order to classify them into their own styles. This study reveals that Fabrizio Romano uses four of five language styles in his Instagram captions: formal style (26%), casual style (40%), consulatative style (14%), and intimate style (20%). Each style has a distinct tone and communication style, with formal style indicating a formal tone and proper nouns, casual style using conversational expressions, contractions, or shortening, and consulatative style asking for advice or predictions. Intimate style conveys personal sentiments and emotions, highlighting joy and enthusiasm, and is addressed to followers based on events. The choice of language style is deliberate, with formal language maintaining professionalism and credibility, while casual and consulatative styles foster engagement and inclusivity among a diverse audience. Incorporating intimate style allows for a personal connection with followers and a sense of authenticity. Overall, these language styles work together to enhance the overall experience and success of Fabrizio Romano's Instagram account.

Abstract

Feminist stylistic analysis of song lyrics can reveal how gender and power relations are represented in music. This research uses observation methods in collecting data by note-taking techniques. The analysis of transitivity choices using Halliday's systemic functional grammar theory can provide a deeper perspective on the relationship between language structure and meaning in the context of feminist song lyrics. The song aims to talk about a strong feminist message, permeating the narrative of gender inequality in society. The highlight of the song which is also the key reason for the stigma and stereotypes that arise in the society was found through the technique of portraying women's experience and their comparison with men's experiences in the community and because this through the desire to "be a man" the song wants to convey the message of gender equality.

Abstract

This study analyzed the translation procedures used in the translation of the children's short story "The Village Leader" from English to Indonesian. The study found that literal translation was the only translation procedure used in the translation of the story. Literal translation is a direct translation procedure that translates word-by-word processes with consideration towards the grammar and idiomatic structures from the source language to the target language. The high frequency of literal translation usage in this study suggests its importance in maintaining the original meaning and context of the story, ensuring that the translated version is easily understood by the target audience, especially children. The study highlights the importance of translation in bridging linguistic and cultural gaps, especially in the context of children's literature. The research method used in the study, which involved qualitative analysis and content analysis, was appropriate for in-depth understanding of the messages, values, and social context contained in the story.

Abstract

This paper aimed to examine the unfair treatment and inequality among women by using and assessing the racial, class, and gender perspectives. It also demonstrated the intersectional discrimination against women, and how it brought the oppression and subordination of women in the private and public spheres, which can be characterized as violations of basic human rights and obstacles to the attainment of women’s equality, development, and integrity. In order to further demonstrate the intersectional discrimination against women, the researchers took The Help as a case study to compare various oppressive situations of White middle-class and African-American women and depict how the multiple and overlapped forms of oppression and structural discrimination should be taken into consideration to address the intersectional discriminations against women, particularly African American women. This study adopted latent-content analysis, including primary and secondary resources, as a qualitative method to facilitate analysis of underlying content. The study further concentrated on the diverse perspectives of women to observe various forms of discrimination and examine how the intersectionality of race, class, and gender affects their experiences and conditions of being discriminated. While reflecting upon the discrimination and oppression of the underprivileged genders, races and social classes, readers may manage to deconstruct the “intersectionality” and better empathize with those who are marginalized.

Abstract

This research analyzes the element of anthropomorphism in the classical Malay literary work entitled "The Tale of Bayan Budiman". Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics and behaviors to non-human entities, such as animals and natural phenomena. In this tale, the main character, a Bayan bird, is depicted as having the ability to speak, give advice, tell stories, and lead like a human. This research employs qualitative textual analysis methods to explore the representations of anthropomorphism in the narrative, dialogues, and descriptions of the text. The findings reveal that anthropomorphism is used to convey moral messages, stimulate the reader's imagination, and reflect the Malay worldview on the relationship between humans and nature. However, anthropomorphism can also obscure the essence and nature of different living beings, especially for child readers. This research contributes to the preservation of Malay literary heritage and provides a deeper understanding of the use of anthropomorphism in classical works
