Abstract

Preparation for a career is an important form of responsibility during adolescence. The initial step that individuals can take for future career preparation is to carefully plan alternative career paths that align with their expected goals. This research is a survey study aimed at analyzing three aspects of career planning using percentage methods, so that counselors can identify which of the three career aspects require more emphasis in providing guidance and counseling services. The study subjects consisted of 135 students in class X-A until X-D at a Madrasah Aliyah in Madura. The results of this study showed that the aspect of self-knowledge obtained a percentage of 71.30%, which is considered sufficient, the aspect of attitude obtained a percentage of 78.95%, which is considered good, and the aspect of skills obtained a percentage of 69.72%, which is considered sufficient. This research can provide a reference for school counselors to offer guidance and counseling services with various methods, especially in the aspect of skills, which was the lowest among the three career planning aspects.

Abstract

This research explores the obstacles teachers encounter in executing the smart schools initiative within the framework of Iraq, where educational facilities and digital preparedness are still at an early stage. Although worldwide trends reveal the growing use of smart technologies in education, Iraq has been hindered by systemic barriers, such as archaic curricula, restricted access to technologies, and an unqualified teaching staff. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire on 122 public school teachers working in Baghdad with a descriptive-analytical methodology. The study divided challenges into five areas: infrastructure, teacher preparedness, administrative support, curricular adaptation and cultural resistance. Data on the overall response rate were analyzed using frequency distributions, and free-text responses were thematically coded. The findings suggest that while the vast majority of teachers support the idea of smart schools in principle, the realization of such facilities/initiatives is still hampered by technological and institutional factors. These recommendations serve as the foundation for specific policy reform, professional development programs, and infrastructure investment that will enable sustainable digital transformation in Iraqi education. The paper ends with practical recommendations for policymakers and educational leaders to align aspiration with reality within smart education.

Abstract

Twenty-first-century learning requires adaptive, integrated, and contextual learning strategies and designs to develop learners' competencies and character. This literature review aims to create a comprehensive conceptual understanding of instructional strategies, learning design frameworks, instructional design elements, and teaching strategies in Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative approach using the Systematic Conceptual Literature Review (SCLR) method. A total of 40 scientific articles published between 2014 and 2024 were systematically analyzed, including Scopus-indexed journals, Google Scholar, academic books, and educational policy documents. The search was conducted through Scopus, Google Scholar, DOAJ, and ProQuest in Indonesian and English, then analyzed using thematic analysis and conceptual synthesis to identify functional and structural relationships among the components of instructional strategies. The findings indicate that effective learning is determined by integrating instructional strategy components, including clear objectives, logical sequencing of materials, meaningful activities, and continuous evaluation. The learning design framework is a conceptual map connecting objectives, learning experiences, and technology utilization, with a flexible and modular design practical for e-learning, mobile learning, and MOOCs. In Islamic education, contextual strategies integrating traditional methods such as Qur’anic stories and nasheed with technology-based collaborative approaches enhance student engagement and value internalization

Abstract

This study uses a qualitative approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of the Muhammadiyah Zakat, Infaq, and Shadaqah Institution (LAZISMU) in Asahan and Medan in supporting the development of Islamic education for students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) and Madrasah Aliyah (MA). Data was collected through non-participatory observation, in-depth interviews with key informants (LAZISMU chairperson, school principals, teachers, and beneficiary students), and documentary studies of program reports and institutional archives. Data analysis employed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, with validity testing through source triangulation, member checking techniques, and referential adequacy. The research findings indicate that LAZISMU's educational programs, such as the Mentari Scholarship, Sang Surya Scholarship, and School Kit, significantly contribute to improving access to and the sustainability of education for students from underprivileged families. These programs reduce the risk of school dropout and enhance students' motivation to learn and their engagement in school. LAZISMU's transformative approach through Islamic development activities, such as Qur'an memorization, Ramadan boarding schools, and spiritual training, further strengthens the formation of religious character and discipline among students. These findings indicate that professionally managed zakat not only functions as charitable assistance but also as an instrument for sustainable and value-based educational development. This study provides empirical contributions to the discourse on Islamic philanthropy by emphasizing the importance of value-based philanthropy in shaping intellectually and spiritually superior Muslim generations at the local level.

Abstract

Islamization in Lombok demonstrates the dynamic interaction between Islamic education, particularly through the pesantren system, and the local culture of the Sasak people. Previous studies have emphasized the classical role of pesantren as centers for the transmission of turats knowledge. Still, they have been limited in explaining how pesantren have transformed through processes of adaptation, acculturation, and assimilation in the modern context. This study aims to analyze the integration of local cultural values with Islamic education in Lombok, while also formulating a model of glocal Islamic pedagogy that is relevant to the demands of the 21st century. This research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic and historical methods. Data was collected over four months through semi-structured interviews with religious scholars, traditional leaders, and community members, participatory observation at pesantren in Central and West Lombok, and analysis of documents from historical archives and relevant literature. Data analysis was conducted thematically through reduction, presentation, and verification using triangulation of sources and methods. Preliminary findings reveal three main stages of Islamization in Lombok: adaptation through the contextualization of Islamic teachings and hybrid pesantren curricula; acculturation through the harmonization of Sasak traditions such as Wayang Sasak with Islamic education; and assimilation, marked by the full integration of Islamic values into the local socio-cultural identity. This study contributes to the development of Islamic education theory by offering a “glocal Islamic pedagogy” framework that combines classical heritage with contemporary competencies. These findings are expected to support the development of contextual and sustainable Islamic education models that are locally relevant yet globally competitive.

Abstract

Fiqh learning in many madrasahs is still dominated by lecture methods with limited use of media, resulting in low student engagement and motivation. This study aims to develop and validate interactive learning media based on Canva for fiqh lessons, specifically the material on Marriage in Islam, using the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). This study is a Research and Development (R&D) project conducted at MAS Al Washliyah Prapat Janji with eleventh-grade students as the subjects. The Define stage involved needs analysis through observation, interviews, and curriculum mapping. The Design stage focused on creating interactive video content that integrates text, images, and audio. The Develop stage included expert validation of content, language, and design, as well as phased testing, while the Disseminate stage was implemented through classroom media use. Data was collected through observation, questionnaires, and pre- and post-tests, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using Cronbach's Alpha for reliability and N-Gain for effectiveness. The results of the study indicate that the media have an average feasibility score of 91% (very feasible) and a practicality score of 81.5%, with an increase in post-test scores and high student engagement. This study affirms the practical application of the TPACK framework in Islamic education, while also improving motivation, conceptual understanding, long-term retention, and 21st-century skills (4C). This study contributes to the educational literature by expanding the use of Canva-based digital media in Islamic education, which has been rarely explored. Further development is recommended to emphasize increasing interactivity, teacher training in digital pedagogy, and large-scale quantitative research to strengthen the evidence of the academic impact of this medium.

Abstract

The integration of natural and social sciences is essential in basic education to strengthen conceptual coherence and increase the relevance of learning to real life. This study explores the application of the Sequenced model in thematic IPAS learning within the Merdeka Curriculum, by positioning concrete science concepts before social aspects to foster students’ holistic competencies. A qualitative case study was conducted in grade V of SD Negeri 2 Pandanrejo, Malang, from January to March 2025. Research subjects consisted of teachers, students, the school principal, and parents. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using Yin’s case study framework with pattern matching and explanation-building techniques. Validity was maintained through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and verification by teachers and the principal. Findings indicate that the Sequenced model effectively integrates science and social studies, with learning progressing from ecosystem balance to natural resource management. Seventy-eight percent of students successfully explained the water cycle and connected it to water availability in their environment. Holistic skills improved across dimensions: spiritual (65% emphasized environmental responsibility), social (project collaboration), emotional (52% showed empathy toward environmental damage), and cognitive (average test scores increased by 13 points). The study confirms the compatibility of the Sequenced model with constructivist theory and the adaptability of the Merdeka Curriculum. Rather than a simple ordering of content, this model functions as a pedagogical strategy to enrich cross-disciplinary understanding and strengthen 21st-century skills. The findings offer practical implications for developing more contextual thematic learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

Child nutrition issues during school age are a strategic concern in human resource development. Most studies on school feeding programs focus on improving nutrition, while cultural dimensions are rarely examined. This study is academically significant as it highlights the dual role of school-based interventions: improving healthy eating patterns while strengthening cultural identity through the integration of local cuisine. This study aims to analyze the impact of a free school meal program based on local cuisine on the formation of healthy eating habits and cultural preservation among elementary and secondary school students in East Lombok. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group was employed. A total of 100 students were purposively selected, with 50 from urban schools and 50 from rural schools. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and brief interviews, validated by experts in nutrition, education, and culture, and tested for reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha with a value exceeding 0.70. Analysis was conducted using paired t-tests and two-way ANOVA after assumptions of normality and homogeneity were met. The results showed a significant improvement in healthy eating scores in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.01). Additionally, over 70% of students in the experimental group demonstrated improved understanding and appreciation of local cuisine, while improvements in the control group were relatively low. These findings confirm that integrating traditional foods into free school meal programs is not only effective in improving health but also contributes to cultural education. This study has practical implications for policymakers and educators in designing school nutrition programs that also serve as a means of preserving local identity.

Abstract

North Lombok Regency is a region characterised by ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity. This sociocultural reality demands an educational system that fosters tolerance, multiple identities, and social cohesion. This study explores the implementation of the Back to the Essence of Education Movement (GKKP) as a model of multicultural education based on locality. This study employs a qualitative approach with thematic content analysis of relevant educational policy documents, such as strategic plans, local curriculum content, character education enhancement guidelines, and annual GKKP program reports. Data were analysed based on Banks' five dimensions of multicultural education and Paulo Freire's principles of critical pedagogy. Validity is ensured through triangulation of sources and peer debriefing. Findings indicate that the GKKP integrates religious and local cultural values into intraschool and extracurricular learning. Using skill-building pocketbooks enables the structured internalisation of multicultural values, covering spiritual, national, school environment, and self-development aspects. The program also fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and democratic school culture and encourages the formation of dual identities among students as members of the local community and citizens of Indonesia. The GKKP model significantly contributes to developing a culturally relevant, localised, multicultural education approach. Despite challenges such as limited teacher training and local teaching materials, this initiative is a viable alternative to the dominance of Western-based multiculturalism approaches in educational literature.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the feasibility and effectiveness of a digital-based Basic Training module (Latihan Kader I) to support the regeneration process of the Langkat Branch of HMI. The method used is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, questionnaires, pre- and post-tests, and documentation, then analysed descriptively using paired t-statistical tests. The validation results showed that the module met the "outstanding" category, with scores of 92.5% (subject matter experts), 90% (design experts), 93.3%–94.2% (instructors), and 90.5%–95.6% (participants). Effectiveness testing on 20 participants showed a significant increase in the average score from 61.75 (pre-test) to 87.75 (post-test), t(19) = 17.09, p < 0.000001, with Cohen's d = 3.82 (huge effect). The module's effectiveness was supported by applying the principles of the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, which integrates text, visuals, and interactive exercises to reduce cognitive load and enhance retention. Despite the positive findings, limitations of the study include the absence of a control group, small sample size, potential novelty effect, and limited generalizability. This module has the potential for broader adoption with replication in different contexts, implementing follow-up tests, and measuring skills and attitudes. Further research is recommended to identify the most influential components of the module, assess user acceptance through TAM or UTAUT, and evaluate the impact on organisational performance.
