Abstract

Background: Practical communication skills are imperative in nursing to ensure patient safety and comfort. Studies reveal that nurses often fail to implement therapeutic communication fully, resulting in dissatisfaction from beginning to end patient care. Objective: This study seeks to pinpoint strategies to enhance nurses' communication proficiency with patients. Method: Employing a systematic review approach, this research delved into journals archived in the EBSCO E. Journal, Elsevier Science Direct, Pubmed, CINAHL Complete, and Google Scholar databases, alongside nursing management and leadership literature. The operational definition encapsulates the endeavors undertaken by nurses to refine communication strategies with their patients. The study was conducted across diverse clinics and hospitals, encompassing all nurses within these settings, with the research sample comprising those lacking robust communication strategies. Data was gathered through the administration of questionnaires and the utilization of observation sheets. Results: Findings underscored that training initiatives bolstered nurses' confidence in delivering comprehensive patient care. Furthermore, culturally sensitive communication skill guides proved instrumental in augmenting nurse-patient communication and patient satisfaction. Moreover, tailored therapeutic communication programs designed for pediatric nurses yielded favorable outcomes, fostering secure and healthy interactions, nurturing trust, and expediting recovery. Short workshops emerged as another effective avenue for refining nurses' communication skills. Consequently, implementing training sessions, comprehensive guides, specialized programs, and brief workshops is pivotal in elevating communication between nurses and patients.

Abstract

Background: Evaluation processes of clinical practice among nursing students can be less than optimal due to individual, organizational, and psychological factors. Improving clinical practice evaluations enhances student outcomes. Therefore, to measure quality in these evaluations, it is essential to identify standard components for evaluating clinical practice quality among nursing students. Purpose: This literature review aims to analyse what components influence the quality of clinical practice evaluation among nursing students. Methodology: The literature review is done by taking electronic database sources through e-book and journal search engines, such as Google Book, Google Scholar, Pro-Quest, PUBMED, and Science Direct. The criteria for published books are the last ten years (2013-2023) and journals for the last five years (2018-2023) using the keywords "component of quality evaluation of clinical practice among nursing students". Results: Based on a review of 12 journals that met the analysis criteria, various measurement components were identified and summarised into nine main components: validity, reliability, practicability, objectivity, feasibility, understandability, continuity, propriety, and efficiency, serving as the standard for measuring the quality of clinical evaluation in nursing students. Conclusion: The quality of clinical practice evaluation among nursing students must have standardized, effective, efficient, and sustainable components so that the clinical competence of nursing students can be achieved optimally.

Abstract

Patients undergoing Hemodialysis can experience psychological effects in the form of anxiety. Anxiety in Hemodialysis patients is caused by several factors, namely adhering to a strict diet, limiting drinking and having to witness the incident when an AV-Shunt is installed during the hemodialysis therapy carried out on their body. Management of anxiety experienced by patients is by controlling anxiety, the ability to control and control emotions, for example emotional intelligence. The aim of this study was to find out patients who experienced anxiety while undergoing hemodialysis. This type of research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample used was patients undergoing hemodialysis using a cross sectional design with purposive sampling technique, obtaining 31 patients. The instruments in this research have been tested for validity and reliability. The bivariate test used was the Spearman rank correlation test. Based on the research results, it was found that the majority of patients at Dr. H. Soewondo Kendal had mild anxiety as many as 24 patients (77.2%), the majority of patients had very high emotional intelligence as many as 24 patients (77.4%), with a p-value of 0.002 or <0.05, and rho - 0.0.538 then shows that the correlation is strong, while the correlation direction is positive. The higher the patient's level of emotional intelligence, the lower the level of anxiety they experience.

Abstract

The National Health Insurance Program (JKN) through BPJS Kesehatan aims to provide equal access to healthcare services, especially for recipients of contribution assistance (PBI). However, complaints persist regarding inpatient nursing services, including limited facilities, unresponsive staff, and lack of empathy. This raises questions about the satisfaction of BPJS PBI patients with nursing services. This study aims to determine the satisfaction of BPJS PBI patients with nursing services in the inpatient ward of Waluyo Jati Regional Public Hospital, Kraksaan-Probolinggo. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological method, eight participants were purposively selected based on criteria: adult patients, active BPJS PBI users, able to communicate effectively, and willing to share their experiences. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation, with data validity ensured through source and method triangulation. Analysis followed the stages of data reduction, presentation, and thematic conclusion. Five themes emerged based on the SERVQUAL dimensions: Patients expressed satisfaction with the facilities and cleanliness of the inpatient rooms (tangible), perceived the nurses' performance as  professional and consistent (reliability), and experienced prompt responses to their complaints (responsiveness). Moreover, the nurses’ friendly and polite demeanor provided a sense of security (assurance), and good communication made patients feel respected, even as recipients of subsidized services (empathy). In conclusion, Nursing services for BPJS PBI patients are viewed positively, particularly in terms of nurse attitude and responsiveness. Overall, patient care at RSUD Waluyo Jati Kraksaan received a favorable evaluation across all five SERVQUAL dimensions

Abstract

Accurate and comprehensive nursing documentation is essential for ensuring continuity of care, legal accountability, and quality outcomes. However, many nurses face challenges in implementing standardized documentation practices. The 3S-based framework comprising SDKI (Standar Diagnosis Keperawatan Indonesia), SLKI (Standar Luaran Keperawatan Indonesia), and SIKI (Standar Intervensi Keperawatan Indonesia) has been developed to enhance the quality and consistency of nursing records. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of 3S-based nursing documentation training on nurses’ knowledge, performance, and documentation skills. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach was conducted at two hospitals: RSUD Sungaililin in December 2024 and RSUD Bayung Lencir in April 2025. A total of 80 nurses participated, with 40 respondents from each hospital. The intervention consisted of structured training sessions on the 3S documentation model. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and observation checklists, and were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests to assess changes before and after the intervention. The findings showed a significant improvement in nurses’ knowledge, performance, and documentation skills following the training (p < 0.05). Both hospitals demonstrated consistent positive outcomes, indicating the effectiveness of the 3S-based training regardless of setting. The 3S-based documentation training significantly enhances nurses’ competencies in recording patient care. These results support the integration of structured documentation models into nursing education and hospital in-service training programs to improve care quality and documentation practices.

Abstract

Hospitalization is a stressful experience for preschool children, which can trigger anxiety due to unfamiliar surroundings, medical procedures, and separation from family. Understanding the factors that influence this anxiety is important to support children's psychological well-being. This study aims to identify the determinants of anxiety in preschool children who are hospitalized at the Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital, Palembang. Methods A quantitative descriptive study was conducted in April 2024 involving 124 preschool children who were hospitalized. Data were collected through structured questionnaires filled out by caregivers and direct observation of children's behavior. The variables studied included age, gender, previous hospitalization experience, parental presence, type of illness, and length of hospitalization. Descriptive statistical analysis and correlation were used to process the data. The results of this study found several factors to have a significant effect on anxiety levels, such as the absence of parents, no previous hospitalization experience, invasive medical procedures, and longer hospitalization length. Age and gender also played a role; girls and younger children showed higher anxiety. The presence of parents, especially mothers, helped reduce anxiety. Children with previous hospitalization experience tended to adapt more easily. The conclusion of the study found that Anxiety of preschool children who are hospitalized is influenced by various factors such as age, gender, presence of parents, previous hospitalization experience, type of action and length of treatment. Family-based care approaches and parental presence are very important in reducing anxiety and supporting children's emotional health.
