Abstract

Mahāratul kitābah has several approaches, one of which is the art of calligraphy where the mahāratul kitābah is one of the four mahārah that are essential in the study of Arabic language. Therefore, it is important for Arabic learners to learn and master this art of calligraphy. In fact, the majority of schools from elementary to upper secondary schools do not give special attention to calligraphy subjects so that it affects the student's writing form that does not comply with the rules in force. The method used in this research is library research in which data is obtained from the library to provide arguments. The result of this study is that the school must give its own time for these calligraphy subjects so that the students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Binjai can write Arabic characters well and correctly that correspond to the rules of writing.

Abstract

Phonetics, a branch of linguistics, examines the production, transmission, and perception of speech sounds, divided into articulatory, acoustic, and auditory subfields. Each area provides unique insights into how language sounds are generated, transmitted, and interpreted. This study explores the implications of phonetics in advancing digital speech recognition technology, particularly focusing on phoneme variation, intonation, and accent recognition. A research and development (R&D) methodology was employed, encompassing analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation stages to develop a prototype system integrating phonetic principles. The mixed-method approach combined qualitative and quantitative analyses to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of phonetics' integration in speech recognition technology. The research underscores the critical role of articulatory phonetics in modeling the production of diverse phonemes and accents, especially in complex languages like Arabic, which features unique phonemes such as pharyngeal sounds and emphatics. Findings reveal phonetics as foundational to developing inclusive and efficient Arabic speech recognition technology, with applications in language education, religious recitation, customer service, and linguistic research. This technology offers transformative potential for oral tradition preservation, inclusivity in services, and economic opportunities in the Arabic-speaking market, fostering accessibility and cultural preservation. The research highlights the interdisciplinary potential of phonetics to drive innovation, enhance social inclusion, and support the sustainable development of speech-based technologies in the digital era.

Abstract

Phonetics explores how humans produce speech sounds, focusing on their physical creation and articulation. Phonemics, a subset of phonology, examines how sounds function within a language, particularly their role in distinguishing meaning. Graphemes, on the other hand, are the smallest meaningful units of written language that can differentiate words. This research aims to delve into the interaction between spoken sounds and written symbols and their contribution to linguistic communication. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing data from books, journals, and other relevant literature on phonetics, phonemics, and graphemics. Data collection involves library research and content analysis, which are interpreted to understand the production of language sounds, their role in conveying meaning, and their representation in writing. Findings indicate that phonetics focuses on sound production, phonemics deals with sound units such as phonemes and their variations (allophones), and graphemics examines a language's writing system, including its basic units (graphemes). In conclusion, phonetics, phonemics, and graphemics are interconnected branches of linguistics that collectively address the role of sounds and symbols in communication.

Abstract

Motivation is essential for the success of Arabic language learning, as students' internal drive affects their engagement and effort in understanding the material. However, enhancing this motivation can be challenging. The edutainment method is considered a potential solution to improve student motivation in learning Arabic. This study aims to increase motivation through the edutainment method at Al-Mu'izz Islamic Elementary School in Bandung. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through observation, achievement tests, and documentation. The findings show that the edutainment method significantly impacts the motivation of fifth-grade students at Al-Mu'izz Islamic Elementary School. The average pretest score was 47.22, while the posttest score was 84.00, demonstrating a clear improvement. The difference is further confirmed by the t-test result, which shows a significance value of 0.001, less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the edutainment method significantly enhances student motivation in Arabic learning at this school.
