Abstract

Recent technologies can provide new opportunities for the acquiring language and literacy skills for students. As we move into the 21st century, students learn how to become good speakers and writers of digital texts. Phonetics skill is important to be trained in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. Learning phonetics helps recognize familiar and unfamiliar sounds, improves pronunciation skills, and develops in words and sound recognition. By focusing on Pronunciation and phonetic accuracy, learners can improve their listening skills and become better at recognizing and decoding English sounds. This, in turn, improves their understanding of spoken English and contributes to raising their overall language proficiency. In this rapid development of digital technology, teachers should be creative to provide impactful and meaningful learning. Al-Azhar Cairo Bandung Islamic Secondary School is a private school in Bandung that elaborate the learning and teaching process through iPad class. Abstract

The Multiculturalism condition in Sukabumi people from the early time of the establishment of this city then had an impact on the linguist condition of its people, who became bilingual, and multilingual. This condition then becomes the background of this research, where the object would be focused on the Mandarin-speaking community, besides Sundanese as the region language. The purpose of this research is to measure the multilingual ability and regulate the conditions of diglossia in the speaking community, who joined the Mandarin Language class, in Perkumpulan Warga Yong Chun Sukabumi, West Java. This research uses the qualitative approach, with the descriptive method and perspective of sociolinguistics. The data was then collected using questionnaires and interview techniques. The data source comes from 35 respondents, who were the population of multicultural students, with ethnicity that comes from (1) Chinese, (2) Batak, (3) Javanese, and (4) Sundanese. The result of this research is then classified into two parts, that is multilingual phenomenon and diglossia. The multilingual phenomenon that found then divided into three research components such as (1) identifying the mother language of the student, according to their ethnicity, (2) measuring the language skills of Sundanese as the regional language with benchmarks (a) the ability to use Tatakrama basa, and (b) the ability to use Aksara Sunda Baku, and then (3) measure the language skills of Mandarin with benchmarks (a) the ability on using四声 (sìshēng) to differentiate tone, and (b) the ability on using简化字 (jiǎntǐzì) or Simplified Chinese, with 繁體字 (fántǐzì) or Traditional Chinese. Meanwhile, the diglossia phenomenon that occurs is then classified based on ethnicity, using linear polyglossia which divides languages into (1) high, (2) dummy high (3) medium, and (4) low levels, against (1) English, (2) Mandarin, (3) Indonesian, (4) Sundanese, and (5) mother language, dialect, or other regional languages.

Abstract

Oral literature holds a strong attraction to cultural heritage, whether it is heritage in the form of differences or others, such as water sources, mountains, rivers, and forests that may have literature in the form of folklore, myths, mystical stories, or legends in a region. For example, Kulon Progo Regency, a regency directly bordering Magelang, Central Java, is the place where the history of the Javanese War occurred. There is no doubt about the natural beauty of Kulon Progo, such as mountains, peaks, tea plantations, caves, and equally stunning are the murmuring waterfalls like Watu Jengger Waterfall, hidden from the crowds of visitors. This research will delve into how the legends of Watu Jengger Waterfall have become oral literature that has been passed down through generations in Madigondo and have the potential to promote Watu Jengger Waterfall tourism. This research, conducted using the tourism literature method, connects oral traditions (lore) in the form of legends with their collective background (folklore). The research results show that the legends of Watu Jengger Waterfall dominate three forms of oral literature according to Albert B. Lord: formula, theme, and function. Watu Jengger Waterfall can be developed in the development of folklore-based literary tourism, with its legendary stories, both in oral and written literature. Attractions will be one of the most important components as a means of promotion to the general public through media.

Abstract

A movie that portrays the traditions of its own region is more effective in conveying moral messages based on events that have occurred. Therefore, this research examines the representation of a short movie originating from the Madurese community titled "Tunanganku Mautku," which represents the occurrence of the "carok" tradition with a woman as the main cause. Madura has been known for its strong tradition of arranged marriages since ancient times. Just like in this movie, the character Anshori binds his ring finger with Ulfa's through the arranged marriage arranged by their parents. However, behind this, there is a figure named Supri who first captured Ulfa's heart and told her to wait. Supri felt his dignity was being trampled on by Ulfa's family because Ulfa and Anshori were matched by Ulfa's parents on the grounds of greater wealth and family ties. Based on the results of the reading and analysis conducted by the researcher, the Madurese community has applied a normalization of emergency status with an ethnic symbol, namely "carok." Therefore, in this context, Supri is not blamed; instead, customary law holds Anshori responsible for taking a woman who is already under Supri's authority. Roland Barthes introduced the terms "signifier" and "signified," which were developed into a theory of metalanguage with two levels: denotation and connotation, and myths. This is in line with research related to the transcript text in the movie to explain the aspects or realities depicted in the movie "Tunanganku Mautku".

Halal tourism or halal tourism is an icon trend in the development of tourism in Indonesia. This aims to increase community participation and sustainability so that halal tourist destinations become stronger. Tourist destinations can be seen through tripots-based attractions (three integrated potentials). Tripots maximizes tourism by combining three types of tourism potential in one destination point that contains natural, religious, and cultural attractions. The purpose of this study is 1) to determine the governance model of halal tourism development based on religious tourism tripot on the north coast of Demak Regency and 2) to determine the sustainability of religious tourism destinations on the North Coast in Demak Regency. The method used in this study is phenomenological qualitative descriptive with data obtained through interviews with tourism activists, community groups, community leaders, tourism managers, community organizations, and local governments. The results of this study show that the management of religious tourism on the North Coast of Demak Regency began structuring based on the tripots of religion, customs, and nature. The sustainability of religious tourism in coastal communities of Java upholds the values of religious moderation so as to create halal tourism in the context of religious tourism.

Abstract

There are many versions of Nyai Dasima, two of them were written by G. Francis and S.M. Ardan. In these versions, there are numerous binaries that can be examined in greater depth, including identity, culture, and Islamic beliefs. These two versions describe the early days of Islam in Indonesia using distinct methods and levels. It is undeniable that the writing of G. Francis, who is western-based, colonial, and liberal, is inaccurate or at the very least skewed in describing the Islamic teachings that are placed in a number of crucial situations in the Nyai Dasima plot. In the version by G. Francis, there are numerous inappropriate dictions, such as the use of the term kafir (infidel) and numerous flaws in the written story when describing Islamic teachings. On the other hand, S.M. Ardan wrote Nyai Dasima’s version by illustrating the good and evil concepts of Islamic teachings according to the context of the time, such as the devout Muslims attending the langgar (musalla) for prayer, the thriving practice of polygamy, and the use of witchcraft for love affairs. Both versions of Nyai Dasima criticize the construction of Islam in distinct ways, so neither is superior. The Nyai Dasima version of S.M. Ardan complements the distancing G. Francis interpretation. Nyai Dasima presents a distinct perspective on Islam in each version. Not to mention, these two versions also explain the differences in the way they present of the plot, which more prominently depict the various faces of Islam.

This current study is a case study conducted at Pasar Anyar, Buleleng, Bali. The research subjects include people involved in the communications taking place in the market such as traders, porters, and buyers. This study applies the qualitative method. The research was conducted at Pasar Anyar, Buleleng, as it is the largest market in Buleleng district and is visited by traders and buyers from every part of Buleleng district. The results of the study show that the subjects mostly using the expressive speech acts were traders and porters. The functions of expressive speech acts used are criticizing, interrupting, apologizing, sharing condolences, and being thankful. The factors leading to the emergence of expressive speech acts are divided into two; they are the internal factors coming from the speaker such as speech habits and wanting to familiarize himself/himself to the addressee, and the external factors such as educational background, and socio-cultural background of the interlocutors.

Abstract

The research is to describe the visual representation of environmental awareness in Sampoerna, a mild advertisement. It is about advertising serving as an effective medium for conveying messages to the public, including issues related to environmental awareness. Sampoerna A Mild, a well-known cigarette brand recognized for its creative and often ironic advertising approach, utilizes strong visual elements and symbolism to communicate various social messages. This study examines the visual representation of environmental awareness in Sampoerna A Mild advertisements by employing multimodal analysis from Kress and Van Leeuwen (1996;2026) taken from the semiotic theory from Roland Barthes and visual rhetoric theory to analyze the meaning behind visual elements and their impact on audience perception. The research uses qualitative content analysis to explore selected advertisements, focusing on colours, symbols, imagery, and linguistic elements. The findings reveal that Sampoerna A Mild advertisements frequently incorporate irony, humour, and wordplay, subtly embedding environmental awareness within their messaging. Visual elements such as natural landscapes, green tones, and the contrast between pollution and nature are commonly used to create an indirect commentary on environmental issues. Additionally, the paradoxical relationship between smoking and sustainability is evident, reflecting a nuanced engagement with ecological themes rather than an explicit advocacy for environmental activism. This study highlights how the cigarette industry incorporates environmental discourse into its marketing strategies and influences public perception.
