Abstract

Critical thinking is an important aspect of education that encompasses cognitive, metacognitive, and ethical dimensions. This study aims to examine the impact of inquiry-based learning on students' critical thinking skills in fourth-grade mathematics at elementary school. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. This research involves fourth-grade students from Lempuyangwangi Public Elementary School, class A as the experimental group and Class B as the control group. The results of the Paired sample t-test for critical thinking skills in Table 4 between the pretest and posttest of the control class are 8.744 > 1.697 (t table N=30), and for the experimental class, it is 29.078 > 1.699 (t table N=29). In each class, the significance value is 0.001. When compared to the threshold value that must be met for a significance level of 0.05, the calculated significance being less than 0.05 indicates that there is a positive effect. The findings indicate a positive and significant influence of inquiry-based learning on enhancing students' critical thinking skills in mathematics. These results suggest that educators need to consider integrating inquiry-based learning into their teaching strategies to enhance the quality of education.         Keywords: critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, mathematic.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp752-764

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive research which aims to explore students' creative thinking process in completing MST on geometry material. The creative thinking process of each individual is different according to their level so it is necessary to analyze how students' creative thinking process is in completing MST based on level of creative thinking. Researchers refer to the stages of creative thinking developed by Wallas consisting of preparation, incubation, illumination and verification stages. Researchers focused subjects on the 5 levels of creative thinking developed by Siswono in the stages of creative thinking, namely subjects with levels of creative thinking level 4 (very creative), 3 (creative), 2 (quite creative), 1 (less creative), and 0 (not creative). Each level is described starting from the preparation, incubation, illumination and verification stages. Based on the research results, there are differences in creative thinking processes at each level of creative thinking, especially at the verification stage, only students with creative levels 4, 3, and 2 carry out the verification stage; The incubation stage for students with creative levels 2, 1, and 0 takes a long time so that subjects with a long incubation stage are not optimal in completing MST to get many alternative solutions.      Keywords: geometry, multiple solution tasks, creative thinking process.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i1.pp248-263

Abstract

Currently in the 21st century, students are required to master various abilities and thinking skills. Students' abilities do not develop well with learning that only focuses on convergent thinking training. As a result, students have difficulty in developing and improving their ability to master the learning material. Therefore, it is necessary to have an appropriate learning model to improve students' abilities. Based on this, one of the alternative learning models that can improve students' abilities is the Inquiry Learning model. This article aims to provide an overview of the application of the Inquiry Learning model to the achievement of learning objectives in chemistry so that it can improve students' abilities. The method used is a systematic literature review from a literature review with relevant and reputable sources during the period 2017 to 2021. The results show that the inquiry learning model was able to improve students' ability to learn chemistry. Keywords: chemistry, critical thinking, inquiry learning model. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i2.pp681-691

Abstract

Cognitive load theory is an instructional design theory which emphasizes the limited nature of working memory's capacity to process information. Germane cognitive load supports learning in which students do continuous efforts in understanding learning materials. Continuous efforts to get the desired results are called resilience. The fact is that prospective Mathematics teachers have limited interest in understanding difficult material while interest is very closely related to resilience. This limited interest results in less optimal efforts. This research is a qualitative descriptive study which aims at describing aspects of resilience in Germane cognitive load-based learning by using variable examples. The findings showed that the stages of learning based on cognitive load with variable examples were giving orientation to the learning material, organizing the variable examples, giving assistance to the work completion, presenting the results, and evaluating. As conclusion, aspects of resilience that appear in cognitive load-based learning are perseverance, adaptiveness, creativity, self-motivation, curiosity, and self-control. Keywords: cognitive load, resilience, variable examples-based learning. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v24i2.pp493-504
