Abstract

Powerpoint assisted problem posing versus STAD model: A comparison study in improving mathematical connection ability. Objectives: The purpose of this study were to determine the differences and the effectivity between Powerpoint Assisted Problem Posing and Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) on mathematical connection ability. Methods: The population of this study were 289 students of SMPN 1 Talang year of 2017/2018 class VII semester II. Data of mathematical connection ability were collected by using documentation, tests and observations. Findings: There were significant differences in mathematical connection ability between Powerpoint Assisted Problem Posing and the STAD model (t calc=5.287 > ttable=1.960). Conclusions: Powerpoint Assisted Problem Posing Model is more effective than STAD model (t calc=5.287 > ttable=1.645 and sig. 0.000) in improving mathematical connection ability. Keyword: Powerpoint-assisted problem posing, STAD model, mathematical connection ability. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v8.i2.201810

Abstract

Implementation of team assisted individualization instructional strategies supported by GeoGebra software to improve mathematical problem solving ability. Objectives: This quasi-experiment study aims to determine the effectiveness of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) instructional strategies assisted by Geogebra graphical software to improve students’ mathematical problem solving abilities. Method: By cluster random sampling techniques, 66 students in grade VIII at SMPN 1 Wundulako were selected as sample. Data collection was carried out using pretest and posttest by applying test and non-test instrument. The data analysis was carried out with descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The Tukey test results showed that the significance value was 0.005 (α<0.05) with the average scores of the experimental and control classes 80.42 and 76.03. Conclusion: TAI strategy with graphical software is more effective in improving the mathematical problem solving ability than conventional learning. Keywords: Team assisted individualization, GeoGebra, mathematical problem solving ability DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v9.i1.201903

Abstract

Mathematical Achievements with or without Game in Hinangutdan Public Secondary High School, Samar, Philippines. Objectives: This study determined the effects of games on the mathematics achievement of Grade VII students of Hinangutdan National High School. Method: It utilized quasi-experimental design to establish the effects of teaching with mathematical games (MathDoku, DaMath, Number puzzle, magic squares, and outdoor games races) and without mathematical games on mathematics achievement. There were twenty-eight participants and randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group. Findings: Results showed a significant higher mean posttest score than mean pretest scores for both groups, suggesting that the two methods are effective. It indicated that teaching with and without mathematical games are equally effective in improving mathematics achievement. Conclusion: It has been determined that using mathematical games in the classroom is effective in raising students' math achievement, particularly in terms of their understanding of basic operations on integers and rational numbers. Notably, teaching mathematical games and without them is beneficial and that both approaches can be combined to teach number operations. Incorporating these games into the classroom, teachers can offer students a variety of presentations of mathematical ideas while also improving their learning experiences. Keywords: mathematical games, pre-test post-test control group experimental design, achievement test.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202323

Abstract

The effect of observing entrepreneurial role models on critical thinking skills in entrepreneurship learning. Objectives: This research analyzes a PBL model by observing an entrepreneurial role model's effect on the critical thinking skills in entrepreneurship learning at Vocational High School. Methods: This study uses quasi-experimental research with a quantitative approach. The total population in this study was 463 students, and a sample of 60 students was obtained using a simple random sampling technique which was divided into two groups. This study uses an instrument essay questions tests in the form of pre-test and post-test. t-test analysis was conducted to test the hypothesis with a significance level of 5%. Findings: The results of the paired sample t-test obtained sig (2 tailed) 0.000 < 0.05. Thus rejecting H0 and accepting Ha. Conclusion: Observing an entrepreneurial role model significantly affects the critical thinking skills in entrepreneurship learning at Vocational High School. Keywords: entrepreneurial role model, critical thinking skills, entrepreneurship learning.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202220

Abstract

Abstract: Students’ Satisfaction on School Services in a State College in the Philippines. Objective: This study was purposely conducted to determine the satisfaction level of Bachelor of Science in Criminology students on the school services offered in J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), Philippines in 2019. Methods: This is a descriptive type of research utilizing a modified-validated questionnaire from the working guide of the accreditors in the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP). Frequency Counts, Percentage, and Weighted Average Mean were used in analyzing the data. Total enumeration was used as the sampling methodology. A total of 152 criminology students were identified as the respondents of the study. Findings: Results show that library and guidance services have the highest level of satisfaction rating while school canteen and criminology laboratory have the lowest students’ satisfaction. Conclusion: The students were satisfied with the services offered by those offices that directly attended to their academic and emotional needs. Keywords: students satisfaction, school services, services quality, higher education institution. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v11.i2.202103

Abstract

The Impact of Education Setup Towards Teachers' Capability and Development Priority Objectives: This study used a mixed research design to assess the performances of the Senior High School Physical Education and Health teacher's capability and professional development priorities. Methods: The study used qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The survey data on teachers' capability and priority development needs were analyzed using simple statistics such as mean and standard deviation. Following quantitative data analysis, qualitative data collection involved transcribing and analyzing the data. Findings: Teachers demonstrated a strong capability in assessment and reporting and plus factors. The identified priority development needs were in content knowledge and pedagogy, learning environment and diversity of learners, assessment and reporting, and plus factors. Besides, facilitating learning, insufficient training, and low standards for addressing students' specific needs. It negatively impacts teachers' confidence, increasing job frustration and affecting their teaching performance. Conclusion: The new education setup challenges teachers' capability and increases the need for development due to limited knowledge and skills. The results reveal the necessity for practical, appropriate, relevant, and timely training tailored to the student's context to ensure effective instructional delivery. Keywords: capability, content knowledge and pedagogy, learning environment and diversity of learners, curriculum and planning, assessment and reporting, and plus, priority development, self-assessmentDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i3.202308
