Abstract

The Impact of Interpersonal Communication and Self-Esteem on Teacher Turnover. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to see how interpersonal communication and self-esteem play a role in the turnover of civil servant teachers in Public Elementary School, Sub-District Setiabudi, Jakarta’s Special Capital District. Methods: This study used a basic random selection technique to select 126 civil servant teachers as a sample. To investigate the contribution and influence of the independent factors on the dependent variable, this study used multiple linear regression models. Findings: After conducting the research, several findings were obtained, include: (1) Interpersonal communication has a negative and significant effect on teacher turnover with a significance value of 0.000; (2) Self-esteem has a negative and significant effect on teacher turnover with a significance value of 0.000; (3) Interpersonal communication and self-esteem have an effect on teacher turnover with a determination coefficient value of 0.944. Conclusion: Well-maintained communication between colleagues and build self-esteem in teachers will make a teacher more receptive to himself, improve his performance and reduce teacher’s turnover. Keywords: interpersonal communication, self-esteem, turnoverDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v11.i2.202104

Problem solving ability of Junior High School students towards geometry: Gender and mathematical disposition analysis. Objectives: The purpose of this study aimed to analyze the effect of gender and mathematical disposition towards the problem-solving ability of geometry at Junior High School students in Bandar Lampung City. Methods: The study used a survey method with two-way analysis of variance. Gender and mathematical disposition are independent variables, while the problem-solving ability of geometry is dependent variables. Findings: The results showed that there was no difference in the average of the problem-solving ability of geometry between male students and female students. Moreover, there was no interaction effect gender and mathematical disposition towards the problem-solving ability of geometry. Last, the average the problem-solving ability of geometry of students who had a high mathematical disposition was higher than students who had a low mathematical disposition. Conclusions: The difference in geometry problem-solving ability occured in male and female students. Keywords: Problem-solving ability, geometry, gender, mathematical disposition. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v9.i2.201923

Abstract

Analysis of Argumentation Contents in the High School Biology Textbook: A Discourse Analysis on the Topic of the Respiratory System. Objectives: Study examines structure of learning discourse, explores aspects of discussion, examines presentation of learning motives in textbooks, analyzes a comparison of three biology textbooks on respiratory materials. Methods: A qualitative investigation of descriptive text kinds from late-XI biology textbooks, discourse structure analysis tasks, conversational type elements, learning motive explanations. Findings: Publishers: Erlangga, Yrama Widya, Intan Pariwara. Conclusion: Results revealed nature of conversation structure. Three scientific books observed that one side of the argument swamped any remaining sections of debate due to a rapid review of doubtful material. Examining three books analysed reveals a discussion of many quality, rating issues. In Good category, Book B got highest rating of 8.3. Book C received an 8.2 on the "upside" scale, whereas Book A received a 7 on the "appropriate" scale. Keywords: Argumentation, tektbook, qualitative, curriculum 2013, discourse.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i2.202206

Abstract

MASTER Learning Model: Motivating, Acquiring, Searching, Triggering,  Exhibiting, Reflecting toward Students Mathematical Reasoning. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of the MASTER learning model (motivating, acquiring, searching, triggering, exhibiting, and reflecting) on students' mathematical reasoning. Methods: This study is classified as a quasi-experiment involving participants engaging fifth-grade students in two Sidoarjo primary schools. The study design was a pre-test, post-test-only control group involving the experiment and control classes. The experiment class implemented the MASTER learning model, and the control class implemented conventional learning. Learning in both classes used the same material, namely building space.  The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, with one class in one primary school in Sidoarjo as the experimental class and one primary school in Sidoarjo as the control class. The study instrument used a mathematical reasoning test to measure three components of mathematical reasoning: analysis, generalization, and justification. Validity and reliability tests were conducted before the mathematical reasoning test was used. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential. Descriptive analysis includes the calculation of mean, standard deviation, and effect size. Meanwhile, inferential analysis uses an independent t-test with two prerequisite tests: normality and homogeneity. Findings: This study's result shows a significant impact of the MASTER learning model on students' mathematical reasoning. In this case, the effect size is confirmed in the large category of mathematical reasoning. Descriptive study results show that there is a difference between students who follow MASTER learning and students who follow conventional learning. The difference can be seen in the value of students' mathematical reasoning component. In this case, the highest to smallest differences in mathematical reasoning components are analysis, justification, and generalization. Conclusion: The MASTER learning model can significantly impact enhancing students' mathematical reasoning in elementary school. Consecutively, enhancing mathematical reasoning is confirmed in the components of analysis, justification, and generalization. Keywords: MASTER learning model, mathematical reasoning, primary students.

Abstract

The trend of ‘multicultural education’ in 2021-2022: Bibliometrics mapping in Scopus. Objectives: the purpose this research explained the trend of “multicultural education” by using bibliometrics in 2021-2022. By conducting documentary research and bibliometric analysis of papers obtained in the Scopus database between 2021 and 2022, the following study was undertaken to examine research trends and the global scientific field's general view on multicultural education. Methods: the VOSviewer software was used to examine 91 documents, including articles, books, and book chapters. The research method is the qualitative approach through VOS viewer. Findings: the keywords (KW+) were used as the analytical units in this work, and bibliometric maps were created from them utilizing co-word analysis, grouping approaches such as clustering and visualization techniques, and database analytics. Conclusion: the study reveals the importance of enhancing those experiences and methods aimed at creating educational experiences that allow for the development of cognitive and socio-emotional abilities, as well as encouraging the construction of peace and preventing violence through education and increasing its visibility in the scientific community. Keywords: multicultural education, education, multicultural, Bibliometrics.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202204

Abstract

Exploring the Professional Development Pathways of Graduates from the Master's Programs in Education: A Tracer Study in a Center of Excellence. Objectives:  This tracer study aimed to trace the graduates of the master’s programs in Teacher Education in a center of excellence in Central Visayas, Philippines. Methods: Using a validated tracer study tool, the researchers obtained data from 136 respondents and analyzed these data through descriptive statistical and thematic analyses. Findings: Findings revealed that they became better after receiving the master's degree, where the university master's attributes are evident among them. They attained crucial attributes, developed complex skills, and were promoted to a higher teaching rank. Though they improved, they still recommended that the center of excellence employ flexible and integrative learning, where certifications and current trends and issues are embedded. Conclusion: In conclusion, the education master's program has provided instruction and a learning environment where students become proficient teachers and workers in their respective teaching stations. Future researchers may venture into other aspects of the graduates to include in tracer studies. Keywords: masters programs, center of excellence, teacher education, tracer studyDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202351
