Abstract

Objective: The study aims to analyzing the Ability to Solve Symbolic Level Chemistry Problems on Buffer Solution Material at SMA Negeri 1 Mawasangka Tengah aims to determine the ability to solve symbolic level chemistry problems and responses of MIPA XI class students to Three Tier Multiple Choice questions on buffer solution material. Method: This research method using descriptive qualitative method. The entire population in this study was used as a sample, namely all students of class XI MIPA, totaling 60 students. Data collection was carried out using a Three Tier Multiple Choice diagnostic test and a student response questionnaire. Finding: The results showed that the ability to solve symbolic level chemistry problems on buffer solution material was still low, with an average percentage of understanding the concept of 9.77%, misconceptions of 57.75%, and not understanding the concept of 32.48%. Students' responses to the use of three-tier multiple-choice questions were positive, with a percentage of 74.30%; students gave good responses to the three-tier test, so this form of test is categorized as good to identify the level of student understanding in solving symbolic level chemistry problems on buffer solution material. Concusion: From the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the diagnostic three-tier test is one of the good test forms to find out about problem-solving skills in the form of problems. Keywords: chemistry problem solving ability, symbolic, three tier multiple choiceDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i1.202310

Abstract

A Systematic Review of Sustainable Higher Education Assessment System: Indicators, Models, and Future Directions. Objective: Evaluation of the sustainability of higher education institutions (HEIs) has become a major focus in academia, especially as evaluation and ranking systems have evolved into increasingly complex ones. This study aims to provide a set of simple indicators for national policy makers to facilitate the measurement of progress towards sustainability in the higher education sector. Methods: Using a qualitative descriptive approach and a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this study examines 16 types of higher education ranking systems and 16 previous research findings based on the UNEP sustainable higher education framework policy, in order to develop a set of indicators specific to the sustainable higher education sector. Articles were selected using the keywords "sustainable higher education" OR "Sustainable performance measurement" and "Performance indicator AND sustainable HEIs" through a systematic screening process that was in line with the inclusion criteria, including relevance to indicators for assessing sustainable higher education performance. Findings: The results of this study revealed areas that were not yet filled, especially in the criteria that combine all pillars holistically. Previous researchers assessed higher education using only part of the four pillars of sustainability identified by the UN, based on the reviewed literature, it was found that 37.5% of researchers used 3 pillars, 25% of researchers used 2 pillars and 37.5% of researchers used 1 pillar of sustainable higher education. This shows that there is an opportunity for further research that can integrate all aspects of higher education sustainability holistically. This multidimensional approach is important to provide a more complete and comprehensive picture of the performance and contribution of higher education in the context of sustainability. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a comprehensive and integrative evaluation method, as well as identify performance indicators that measure the impact of interactions between pillars to provide a more comprehensive picture of higher education sustainability. Further research is also needed to bridge the gap in the literature and strengthen the multidimensional approach in assessing sustainable higher education performance. Keywords: model, sustainability indicators, higher education, sustainability.

Abstract

Exploring the Professional Development Pathways of Graduates from the Master's Programs in Education: A Tracer Study in a Center of Excellence. Objectives:  This tracer study aimed to trace the graduates of the master’s programs in Teacher Education in a center of excellence in Central Visayas, Philippines. Methods: Using a validated tracer study tool, the researchers obtained data from 136 respondents and analyzed these data through descriptive statistical and thematic analyses. Findings: Findings revealed that they became better after receiving the master's degree, where the university master's attributes are evident among them. They attained crucial attributes, developed complex skills, and were promoted to a higher teaching rank. Though they improved, they still recommended that the center of excellence employ flexible and integrative learning, where certifications and current trends and issues are embedded. Conclusion: In conclusion, the education master's program has provided instruction and a learning environment where students become proficient teachers and workers in their respective teaching stations. Future researchers may venture into other aspects of the graduates to include in tracer studies. Keywords: masters programs, center of excellence, teacher education, tracer studyDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202351
