Edubiotik: Jurnal Pendidikan, Biologi dan Terapan aims to bridge the gap between research and practice, providing information, ideas, and opinions in biology research, teaching, and learning. Through coverage of policy and curriculum developments, the latest research results on biology teaching, learning, and assessment are brought to the surface. Edubiotik: Jurnal Pendidikan, Biologi dan Terapan accepts and publishes articles in the form of research in the fields of biology education, pure biology, and applied biology. Abstract

This study aims to: (1) develop Student Worksheets (LKS) based on the Predict Observe Explain Model for Class XI High School and (2) find out the feasibility test of Student Worksheets (LKS) based on the Predict Observe Explain model on the digestive system and respiratory system material in human. This research was development research (research and development) with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). This research was conducted in March 2018 until July 2018 at IKIP BUDI UTOMO Malang. Data of feasibility tests was analyzed with descriptive analysis. The results of this study were: (1) the development of Student Worksheets (LKS) based on the Predict Observe Explain (POE) model produces a pre-filled section containing the main title page, preface, table of contents, competency map and instructions for use, the contents of the digestive system material and the human respiratory system and practice questions, the post-contents section contains a bibliography and author's profile with a total of 62 pages using 70 grams of HVS paper to fill the LKS and AP 120 paper for the cover of the LKS, printed with A5 paper size, (2) the results of the feasibility assessment by material experts get an average number of scores of 41.5 with a mean score of 3.4 which includes eligible criteria. Feasibility assessment of media experts get an average score of 43 with a mean score of 3.3 which includes eligible criteria so that LKS based on the Explain Predict Observe model is suitable for use as teaching material.

Abstract

Good student learning outcomes, one of which is determined by student motivation is in terms of fostering passion, pleasure and enthusiasm. one of them is the selection of learning models that are in accordance with the characteristics of students and subject matter. TTW is a learning model that facilitates verbal training orally and writes the language smoothly. The learning model encourages students to think, speak, and then write a particular topic. aims to find out whether there is influence of Think Talk Write (TTW) assisted learning media images on cognitive learning outcomes and student motivation on respiratory system material class VIII SMP Negeri 5 Kodi Academic Year 2017/2018. This type of research is quasi experimental using the pretest postest desing research design. Population in even semester. This research sample consists of 2 classes, namely class VIII A as many as 30 students as an experimental class and class VIIIB as many as 30 students as a control class. Data analysis techniques use normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis testing using the Anacova test at a significant level of 5%. Based on the results of the study showed that the average learning outcomes of students who obtained learning with Think Talk Write assisted learning models of media images obtained an average of 80.86 while the average learning outcomes of students who did not use media-based Think Talk Write learning models were obtained flat 73.96. Abstract

Technology-based learning needs to be done immediately in order to carry out more interested in learning and fostering student motivation. Furthermore, learning should be done by each student characteristics. One of which is multiple intelligences based learning. Through the application of multiple intelligence assisted technology based learning, it is expected that the learning objectives will be more easily achieved by students. Interactive module based on multiple intelligences that has been validated was the product of this research and developmental experiment. This research was limited to the Changes of Genetic Material taught at the Genetics Course at IKIP Budi Utomo Malang. Research and development model was carried out by 4D model from Thiagarajan (1974). This research phase includes define, design, design, and disseminate stages. The research data is obtained from the module validation score, both from material experts, media experts, and practitioners (students). The data obtained were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the results of the validation of media experts, material experts and small-scale trials, it is known that the percentage results are above 85%, so the product is declared valid. Furthermore, it is necessary to test the classical scale to find out its effectiveness in learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a handout based on the results of a DNA Fingerprinting Profile in Javanese-Arabic Ethnics in Malang, East Java, Indonesia for the course of Evolution. Development (Handout) was carried out based on the 4D development model of Thiagarajan. The 4D model has 4 stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate, while the research to be carried out is only limited to the develop stage. The research subjects were students of the Biology Education Study Program IKIP Budi Utomo Malang who had taken as many as 40 evolutionary subjects. Data analysis techniques used to analyze quantitative data in the form of validation scores from two material experts, two media experts and readability tests. The instruments used to collect data in the study included validation sheets and questionnaires. The results of the material expert validation analysis included aspects of the completeness of the material, material, questions about evaluation and aspects of material development. The results of expert media validation analysis include aspects of Handout size, Cover Design Handout, Cover Handout Typography, Cover Handout Illustration aspects, Handout Content Design, Typography of Handout Content, Handout Illustration, Language Feasibility, and Presentation Completeness. The results of the readability test analysis include aspects of the material ease, the victory of the handout of understanding material, and renewal of material. Based on the results of the analysis data in this development research, it can be concluded that the average results of the assessment from the material expert validator was obtained with a percentage of 89.85% with the category Very Valid. The average assessment results from media expert validators with a percentage of 98.22% with the category Very Valid. The average assessment results from the readability test with a percentage of 92.73% with the category Very Valid.

Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems that occurred, among others: LKS owned by students so far have not been able to train students to learn independently and low mastery of students on metabolic material. The purpose of this development research is to find out the development process and find out the results of the development of Multiple Intelligence Based Student Worksheets on the material of high school students' enzymes. This study uses the 4D development model by Thiagarajan et al. which includes 4 stages: Define, design, design and Disseminate. Testing of Multiple Intelligence-Based LKS products, there are several aspects including media assessment, assessment of material and readability tests. Multiple Intelligence-based worksheet validation results have been obtained by media expert validators with a percentage of 96.43%, by the material expert validator with a percentage of 84.21% and the students' readability trial results obtained a percentage of 65.33%. Based on the data that has been obtained for testing this Multiple Intelligence-Based LKS product, it is expected that in the future it can be tested on a large scale in the classroom for further development. Further development, can be done with classroom action training (PTK) or Experimental research.

Abstract

Polyploidy is a condition when the individual has more than two genomes, this polyploidy phenomenon is common in fern plants and one of the causes that is suspected to cause polyploidy events is cold temperatures. Therefore, this research aims to determine the level of ploidi fern vegetables (Diplazium esculentum) at different altitude in Semeru Mountain. This research is an experimental research using Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The object used is the Diplazium esculentum taken from different altitude (500 masl, 1500 masl, and 2500 masl) in Semeru Mountain. The next step is making the preparatory and chromosomal counts were then calculated on 5 root hood cells and each cell was counted for 3 repetitions. The data obtained were analyzed by one way Anova analysis with SPSS. The research results showed that there were differences in ploidy levels of Diplazium esculentum at different altitude indicated by F count (126.849) > F table 0,05 (3.885). Diplazium esculentum located at an heights of 500 masl showed the result of diploid cytological type (2n) which has an average number of chromosomes was 62.934; at an heights of 1500 masl indicated the result of triploid cytological type (3n) which has an average number of chromosomes was 80.334; while at an heights of 2500 masl has an average number of chromosomes as much as 106.4 with tetraploid cytological type results (4n). Thus it can be concluded that there is a difference in ploidy level of Diplazium esculentum at each altitude in Semeru Mountain.

Abstract

There is a need to map the connection between critical thinking and metacognitive skills of high school students so that educators can determine learning steps to help students obtain optimal learning outcomes and 21st-century skills. The research objective is to Examine the relationship between high school biology students' metacognitive abilities and critical thinking education. It is a quantitative-correlational study. The research sample was 230 grade XI students pursuing science specialization obtained by purposive random sampling from Jeneponto Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The research instrument used is an examination formatted as an essay that has been confirmed by professionals. The research data is the value of critical thinking and metacognitive skills from the results of taking tests in the form of essays. The method of data analysis was used through linear regression analysis using SPSS 23 for Windows. The study's findings indicate a strong correlation between critical thinking and metacognitive abilities of high school students in biology education with a significance value of 0.000 (p ˂ 0.05). It can be seen that critical thinking skills contribute 68.6% to students' metacognitive skills. Therefore, this research finds that there is a substantial correlation between high school biology students' metacognitive abilities and critical thinking. Teachers can use the research findings to identify instructional strategies that foster critical thinking in order to help students become more independent and metacognitive.

Abstract

Efforts are needed to accelerate the decomposition of peat fiber to reduce the fiber content through bioaugmentation using Pseudomonas taiwanensis bacteria so that it can reduce the high-water content of peat fiber. The research aimed to determine the effect of adding Pseudomonas taiwanensis bacteria on the decomposition of peat fiber. This research is a laboratory experimental research. The research sampling location was in Bereng Bengkel Village, Palangkaraya. The parameters observed included fiber content, fiber size distribution, and peat fiber decomposition speed following the Peat Testing Manual. The research instrument was an observation sheet for fiber content, size distribution, and peat fiber decomposition speed. Research data was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that adding 15% Pseudomonas taiwanensis bacteria with a curing period of 28 days in fibrous peat resulted in the highest reduction in fiber content, from the initial condition of 61.14% to 12.33%. This variation also shows a decrease in coarse and medium fiber content and a significant increase in fine fiber content. The decomposition rate for this variation shows good consistency. The conclusion was that adding 15% Pseudomonas taiwanensis bacteria with a curing period of 28 days showed optimal results in accelerating the decomposition of peat fiber through the bioaugmentation method.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills are important things everyone needs to have to improve their quality of life. The results of a needs analysis carried out on Biology students at the State University of Malang show that their problem-solving abilities are still relatively low in lichen diversity material. This research aims to determine the development of PBL-based lichens diversity e-module and its influence on students' problem-solving skills completeness e-module and its effect on students' problem-solving skills. This type of research is a development study (development research) with the ADDIE development model. This research was conducted at the State University of Malang in biology class with a sample size of 67 students. The research instrument uses problem-solving pretest and posttest sheets, as well as material expert questionnaires, media expert questionnaires, and practicality questionnaires from educators who will use the e-module. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that the e-module developed was a very good product and could be used in learning Lichen material. The results of the study stated that the e-module was effective in improving problem-solving skills (sig. ˂ 0.05). So, it can be concluded that the PBL-based e-module is effective for improving problem-solving skills in biology students of the State University of Malang.

Abstract

The development of android media for invertebrate material in biology lessons has not been carried out and needs to be optimized. The research aims to develop android media for invertebrate learning. This type of research is research and development using the Plomp and Nieveen development model, which is limited to the prototyping phase, and formative evaluation based on Tessmer which consists of self-evaluation, expert opinion, individual testing, small group testing, and field testing. The research subjects consisted of 3 experts and 30 students who had programmed the Invertebrates course for individual tests, small group tests, and field tests. The research instruments include validation sheets and essay-based tests. The acquired data was subjected to descriptive analysis. The validation of Android media shows that the media is suitable for use with an average of 72, practicality testing shows the ease of the learning process with an average of 94, effectiveness testing before using Android media is 32 and after using Android media is 87. The conclusion is that the Android media developed is valid, practical, and effective and can be used for the learning process. Furthermore, tests can be carried out on a wider scale to obtain more homogeneous data.
