Abstract

Abstract

Autism is a brain disorder that is usually irreversible. However, the symptoms that appear can be reduced with appropriate therapy. The success of the therapy programme for autistic children is influenced by the role of parents. This study aims to determine the role of parents with autistic children and their barriers to the support of Lovaas method (ABA) therapy. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through interview techniques to 10 parents who have autistic children and then data were analysed in the form of thematic analysis using Nvivo software. The results showed that from the theme of the role of parents, 5 sub-themes were obtained, namely making time, cooperation, family support, evaluating progress and financial support. The most difficulties experienced by parents in carrying out their role towards therapy support are taking the time to deliver to the therapy place, repeating material at home, and the distance from home is too far. Abstract

Children with cerebral palsy have a main obstacle which is weakness in physical abilities, related to obstacles in muscles and joints either in the hands, feet or other parts of the body. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of clay-based intervention by applying a task analysis approach in improving fine motor skills in cerebral palsy children. Cerebral Palsy (CP) children experience movement disorders caused by impaired brain nerve function, Progressive Dystrophy. Children with disability can be classified into 2 types, namely, orthopedically handicapped children, which is defined as people with disability who experience movement barriers caused by certain deficiencies in muscles, bones, body, and joints. This research is a descriptive quantitative study that uses a Single Subject Research approach. It is a type of research that seeks to change the behavior of individuals or small groups and to document those changes. This research is different from experimental research where the researcher takes a sample and establishes the existence of a control group and behavior group. In Single Subject Research, the subject will serve as both the control group and the behavior group. The research design used in this article is the ABAB research design. ABAB research design is a type of SSR research that involves a baseline phase (A), an intervention phase (B), a second baseline phase (A2), and a second intervention phase (B2). The purpose of using this research design is to demonstrate the functional relationship between the intervention and the subject's behavior. The results showed that clay-based intervention with a task analysis approach was effective in improving fine motor skills in children with cerebral palsy. This study makes an important contribution to the field of special education by offering an innovative and effective intervention approach to improve fine motor skills in children with special needs.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the accessibility of people with disabilities in the 2024 regional head election in the city of Jayapura, Papua Province. This research was studied using the dimensions of accessibility, accommodation, availability and acceptability. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using interview techniques and documentation to collect data. The research results show that the 2024 presidential election in Jayapura City has an accessibility dimension, there is the fact that the voting stations (TPS) provided by the organizers are not all easily accessible for people with disabilities, such as the existence of stairs which make it difficult for people with disabilities to enter the polling stations. The TPS entrance is narrow so access is difficult. There is no indication from the election organizers that there is a lack of accessibility for the visually impaired.  In the accommodation dimension, there are still TPS officer services that are not friendly to people with disabilities. Based on the availability dimension, there are constraints in the availability of materials, machines and methods so that it is not optimal in accommodating the rights of voters with disabilities. In the acceptability dimension, it is not yet friendly for people with disabilities, because there are still inaccurate perceptions of some people towards people with disabilities. General Election Organizers are advised to pay more attention to access for people with disabilities, especially regarding the affordability of polling stations, availability of facilities and infrastructure, availability of standard operating procedures (SOP) for people with disabilities, the skills and alertness of officers in handling voters with disabilities, as well as improving the way the public views them. people with disabilities. Abstract

Vocational education for people with disabilities in Indonesia faces significant challenges, despite their lower unemployment rate compared to non-disabled people. This may be due to a lack of understanding of their potential. Vocational education plays an important role in preparing children with disabilities to compete in the world of work, with support from parents and the community. Previous research shows that the implementation of vocational skills programs is often not on schedule and there is a lack of adequate evaluation instruments. This study aims to design an assessment instrument and a Vocational Education and Training (VET) guidebook to improve the effectiveness of vocational education for people with disabilities, so that they can achieve independence and contribute productively to society. Library research was used in this study to understand the needs and challenges faced by children with disabilities and to develop recommendations based on data from journals or previous research. The results showed that the instrument designed was able to effectively identify vocational potential, while the Vocational Education and Training (VET) guidebook provided practical guidance for educators and people with disabilities to improve vocational skills. Abstract

Children with intellectual disabilities often have to deal with negative views from the surrounding environment. Negative perceptions of disability in society are often exacerbated by a lack of education and understanding about disability. This research aims to provide a clear picture of the social stigma faced by children with intellectual disabilities and how it affects their lives. This research uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The results of this study show that there are negative viewpoints regarding stigma and discrimination in the family, community, and academic institutions. Such as the labeling of “stupid child,” “bad child,” “cursed child,” or “family burden,” often shunned, treated badly/discriminated, lack of services, such as gaps in education, health services, and social services, and lack of support for maximum growth and development in children.
