Abstract

This study compares tourism development in Australia and Indonesia to examine how cultural context influences four key dimensions: cultural integration, community participation, sustainability practices, and governance effectiveness. Using a mixed-methods comparative design, the research draws on questionnaire data from tourism stakeholders in both countries, including policymakers, destination managers, community representatives, and practitioners, complemented by semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data were examined thematically. The findings reveal clear cross-cultural differences in tourism development approaches. Indonesia places greater emphasis on cultural integration and community participation, reflecting the prominence of community-based and culturally grounded tourism models. Australia performs more strongly in sustainability practices and governance effectiveness, indicating a more institutionalized and policy-driven framework. The results also show significant positive relationships between cultural values and broader tourism development dimensions, highlighting culture as a key driver of tourism outcomes. Qualitative insights further stress the importance of balancing economic development with cultural preservation and environmental sustainability. This study contributes to cross-cultural tourism research by demonstrating that tourism development remains culturally differentiated despite globalization. It also offers practical implications for policymakers and practitioners by emphasizing the need for culturally responsive and governance-sensitive tourism strategies that support sustainable development.

Abstract

Low mathematical understanding among elementary school students in Indonesia is a pressing problem, as National Assessment data show that only 28.7% of elementary students achieve adequate numeracy competence. One primary cause is the scarcity of contextual, innovative learning media capable of connecting abstract mathematical concepts to students' lived experiences. This study develops an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based cartoon medium set within the Cianjur tauco local wisdom context to improve the mathematical understanding of fourth-grade elementary students. The method employed was Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Sixty fourth-grade students of SDN Pasarsuuk, Cianjur Regency, participated—32 in the experimental group (class IVA) and 28 in the control group (class IVB)—selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included expert validation sheets, practicality observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and mathematical understanding tests in pre-test and post-test form. Results showed a mean validity score of 3.78 (very valid), a mean practicality score of 3.75 (very practical), and positive student responses of 87.5%. The class average rose from 58.40 to 79.20, with an N-Gain of 0.49 (moderate) and a mastery rate of 81.3%. The novelty of this study lies in simultaneously integrating generative AI technology, visual-narrative cartoon format, and Cianjur tauco local wisdom into a single contextual, meaningful, and culturally grounded mathematics learning media product.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly influenced the educational environment, particularly in relation to students’ character formation. The widespread use of digital media exposes students to various challenges, including misinformation, cyberbullying, and the weakening of moral values. In response to these issues, contemporary education is expected to emphasize not only academic achievement but also the development of strong character. In Indonesia, the Merdeka Curriculum was introduced as an educational reform that provides greater flexibility in learning while integrating the Pancasila Student Profile to strengthen character education. This study aims to explore teachers’ perceptions regarding the role of the Merdeka Curriculum in shaping students’ character in the digital era at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nururrodhiyah, Jambi City. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving teachers and school stakeholders. Abstract

Semantic misinterpretation often occurs when translating between English and Acehnese due to cultural and linguistic differences. Conventional dictionaries usually provide direct lexical equivalents without adequately clarifying core meanings. Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) offers semantic primitives, universal concepts shared across languages, that can serve as a basis for developing more accurate and culturally sensitive resources. This study applies NSM theory in the development of an English–Acehnese E-Thesaurus of semantic primitives, aiming to minimize misinterpretation and strengthen cross-cultural understanding. Using a qualitative design, semantic primitives were identified in English and matched with Acehnese equivalents through linguistic elicitation, textual analysis, and expert consultation. The results were organized into an E-Thesaurus prototype with a user-friendly digital interface to facilitate bilingual access. Findings show that NSM-based explications provide clearer representations of universal meanings while accommodating cultural nuances in both languages. The prototype demonstrates its potential as a tool for reducing ambiguity, enhancing bilingual learning, and promoting cultural literacy. Preliminary user feedback indicates that it improves comprehension of abstract concepts and minimizes translation errors. In conclusion, integrating NSM theory in the English–Acehnese E-Thesaurus offers an effective model to address semantic misinterpretation. Beyond bilingual education, this innovation contributes to cultural preservation and the promotion of cross-cultural communication.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concepts, implementation, challenges, and relevance of differentiated learning models in the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) through a critical literature review approach. This research is motivated by the demands for educational transformation in the era of the Merdeka Curriculum and 21st-century education, which emphasize student-centered learning. The research method employed is a critical literature review by examining various scholarly sources, including journals, books, and academic documents relevant to differentiated learning and Islamic education. The data were analyzed through processes of data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and critical synthesis to identify patterns, concepts, and research gaps. The findings reveal that differentiated learning has strong relevance to the development of PAI instruction, as it is capable of accommodating the diverse characteristics, needs, and potentials of students. The implementation of differentiated learning in PAI is carried out through the differentiation of content, processes, products, and learning environments, which positively impact students’ engagement, motivation, and learning experiences. Furthermore, differentiated learning is also aligned with the principles of Islamic education, which value human nature (fitrah) and human potential holistically. However, its implementation still faces various challenges, such as limited teacher competence, inadequate diagnostic assessment, conventional learning cultures, and insufficient learning facilities. This study contributes conceptually by positioning differentiated learning not merely as a pedagogical strategy, but also as a humanistic approach to transforming Islamic Religious Education learning in the modern era.
