Abstract

This research intends to investigate the meaning contained behind the Tor-Tor dance. The researcher intends to use theories in this research, namely semiotic theory, nonverbal communication theory, and dance. The purpose of this research is to find out the meaning contained in the clothes and accessories used, song lyrics, and the meaning of each Tor-Tor Huda-Huda dance movement. The research method used in this research is an interpretive approach using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. Researchers collected data in the form of observations and secondary data in the form of journals, articles on the internet that support this research. The reason, why researchers are interested in it, is because dance is not only a means of expression but as a means of communication to express and express, commenting on the reality of life through dance movements. As a means of communication, dance through space-time movement carries a certain mission or message to be understood by the audience, while the body is the dancer's tool for communication. So the success or failure of communication through dance is also determined by the dancer's movements in each movement. For this reason, this research is considered important because of the diversity of meanings.

Abstract

The achievement of high predicted TOEFL scores by students is not easily obtained without strong motivation and thorough preparation from both the students themselves and their environment. The research conducted at FETEC (Faculty of Economics Trisakti English Center) aims to analyze the students' motivation and TOEFL preparation classes in relation to their predicted TOEFL scores. Quantitative research data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 20 respondents as a sample, using Google Forms. Sampling was conducted randomly or through simple random sampling. The collected data was processed according to research procedures and analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis in SPSS 20. The results of this study indicate that students' motivation and TOEFL preparation classes are crucial in achieving high predicted TOEFL scores. This improvement is achieved through various actions and measures, ranging from basic security and social integration to personal achievement and self-fulfillment. It illustrates how different levels of needs—from basic to self-actualization—drive students to take action and enroll in preparation classes to achieve their goals. These actions significantly contribute to the growth of students’ motivation on the achievement of the predicted TOEFL score.  The greater the students' motivation to enroll in TOEFL preparation classes, the higher their predicted TOEFL scores. Attaining high predicted scores satisfies their academic requirements, allowing them to participate in their thesis defense.

Abstract

The study investigates the effectiveness of the “Learn English Words with SMARTTEACHER” application in enhancing English vocabulary among Indonesian children in elementary school. This research targets young learners at an early cognitive stage and contextualizes the study within the Indonesian educational setting, where traditional methods have shown limitations in vocabulary development. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected from ten students who engaged with the app over a period, completing exercises like “Guess the Word” and “Guess the Picture.” The results reveal notable vocabulary acquisition, with the highest mastery in categories such as colors (100%), numbers (90%) and fruits (80%), while vegetables showed the lowest (60%). The study attributes these differences to varying levels of exposure and cognitive simplicity of each vocabulary type that combines visual aids, auditory cues, and interactive exercises, promoting engagement and motivation compared to conventional learning. The study recommends refining the app to better support challenging vocabulary areas and offers significant benefits, particularly in vocabulary retention and positive learner attitudes.
