Abstract

Abstract

This study was conducted in response to the growing environmental problems largely caused by excessive human exploitation of nature. The Lorax (2012) was selected as the object of analysis because it presents a clear depiction of how environmental destruction affects the sustainability of life. The purpose of this study is to explore the representation of environmental degradation in the film through the perspective of Islamic eco-theology. This research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach. Data were collected through observations of the film and supported by books, journal articles, and previous studies related to environmental issues and eco-theology. The collected data were analyzed using textual analysis and a phenomenological hermeneutic approach. The findings reveal that The Lorax portrays several forms of environmental degradation, including deforestation, habitat loss, air and water pollution, and ecological imbalance. The character of Once-ler represents human greed that prioritizes economic interests over environmental sustainability. From the perspective of Islamic eco-theology, such behavior contradicts the role of humans as khalifah (stewards of the Earth), who are entrusted with the responsibility of protecting and preserving nature. The film also suggests that environmental crises are not merely ecological issues but are closely connected to moral and spiritual awareness. Through the character of the Lorax and Ted’s effort to replant the last Truffula seed, the film conveys a message of hope that environmental restoration is possible when people are willing to care for and reconnect with nature.

Abstract

Self-control is an essential aspect of human behavior that enables individuals to regulate their emotions, thoughts, and actions in accordance with moral values and long-term goals. In academic environments, weak self-control may contribute to various forms of deviant behavior, including acts of violence among students. This study aims to examine the concept of self-control from the perspective of Al-Junaid al-Baghdadi’s Sufism, particularly through the concepts of mujahadah and muraqabah, and to analyze their relevance to the phenomenon of violence in higher education institutions. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research and figure study methods. Data were collected from primary sources, including Rasā'il al-Junaid and classical Sufi literature, as well as secondary sources such as books, journal articles, and previous studies related to self-control and Islamic spirituality. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis, hermeneutic interpretation, and comparative analysis. The findings reveal that self-control in Al-Junaid’s thought extends beyond behavioral regulation and encompasses the purification of the soul through continuous spiritual struggle and awareness of God's presence. The concepts of mujahadah and muraqabah provide a comprehensive framework for developing internal discipline and moral responsibility. Furthermore, these concepts are highly relevant in preventing aggressive and violent behavior among students because they foster emotional regulation, ethical awareness, and spiritual consciousness. Therefore, Al-Junaid’s Sufi teachings offer a valuable alternative approach to character development within contemporary academic settings.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the concept of tazkiyatun nafs and the process of character transformation in the short story "Minadz Dzulumati Ila Nur" by Saddam Fathan Rasyidin. This research employs descriptive qualitative approach with an interpretative method and integrating the perspective of akhlak tasawoof by Imam al-Ghazali and literary psychology by Rene Wellek and Austin Warren. The data were collected through documentation and analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that the main character undergoes a gradual transformation through three phases, the empty phase, the dark phase, and the enlightened phase. This transformation aligns with the stages of tazkiyatun nafs in al-Ghazali’s framework, such as taubah, patience, tawakkal, and ikhlas. In literary psychology perspective, the character development is influenced by both internal conflict and external factors, such as the social environment. This research concludes that tazkiyatun nafs is a dynamic and continuous process that involves both spiritual and psychological dimensions in shaping an individual’s character.

Abstract

This article examines the values of tawakkal and husnuzan toward Allah contained in the lyrics of the song Insya Allah by Maher Zain. This study is motivated by the absence of research that specifically analyzes the song using the framework of Akhlak Tasawuf, particularly the theory of tawakkal according to Al-Ghazali in Ihya’ Ulumuddin and the theory of husnuzan according to Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah in Madarij al-Salikin. The study employs a qualitative approach with content analysis and library research as its method. The data consist of linguistic units in the lyrics, which are analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model through three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through theoretical triangulation. The analysis shows that the lyrics of Insya Allah contain the value of tawakkal, which encompasses Al-Ghazali’s three levels, ranging from expressions of surrender to Allah, calls not to despair, to total submission in seeking guidance. The value of husnuzan appears dominantly through the phrase “Insya Allah there’s a way,” repeated eight times, the belief in Allah’s presence and nearness, and the pattern of active effort that demonstrates husnuzan in this song belongs to the mahmud (praiseworthy) category according to Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah’s classification, not ghurur. This study is expected to fill the gap in previous research while also showing that the values of Akhlak Tasawuf can be experienced through contemporary musical works.

Abstract

The phenomenon of promiscuity, which is now rampant, has many serious impacts on the lives of teenagers. This behavior is often normalized and portrayed in the media; one example of a media outlet that addresses this issue is the film Dua Garis Biru. This study aims to examine the representation of promiscuity and out-of-wedlock pregnancy in the film *Dua Garis Biru* through the perspective of the Qur’an, specifically in Surah Al-Isra’: 32, An-Nur: 30–31, Al-Mu’minun: 5–7, and An-Nisa’: 25. Using a thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu'i) approach and anomie theory, this study analyzes how the film depicts the gradual process of moral deviation among adolescents, ranging from emotional intimacy to ultimately resulting in pregnancy outside of marriage. The method employed is descriptive qualitative research utilizing observation, documentation, and literature review techniques. The sample consists of selected scenes chosen through purposive sampling. The results indicate that the film’s depictions reflect forms of behavior approaching adultery, as prohibited in QS. Al-Isra’: 32. The interpretations of Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi affirm that this prohibition is preventive in nature, meaning it closes all paths leading to moral transgression. The theory of anomie explains that the weakening of social control and norms in the lives of modern adolescents is a driving factor behind deviant behavior. This study demonstrates that Qur’anic values remain relevant in addressing contemporary social phenomena and highlights the importance of strengthening religion-based moral education.

Abstract

Mental health has become one of the most discussed issues among young people who face social pressure, achievement demands, and the complexities of modern life. Such conditions often lead to emotional exhaustion and encourage individuals to seek personal recovery through self-healing. One artistic medium that reflects this experience is the song Evaluasi by Hindia, which portrays self-reflection, emotional struggle, and efforts toward recovery. This study aims to analyze the representation of self-healing in the lyrics of Evaluasi and to examine its relevance to the concept of tazkiyatun nafs in Islamic mysticism. The object of this study is the lyrics of Evaluasi from Hindia’s album Menari dengan Bayangan (2019). The study employs Stuart Hall’s theory of representation, John I. Saeed’s semantic theory, Kristin Neff’s concept of self-compassion, and the concept of tazkiyatun nafs as developed by Al-Ghazali and Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, especially amradh al-qulub, takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli. This research uses a qualitative approach with qualitative content analysis. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the lyrics of Evaluasi represent emotional vulnerability, mental exhaustion, and social pressure, which can be interpreted in line with the concept of amradh al-qulub. In addition, the self-healing process represented in the lyrics reflects the stages of tazkiyatun nafs: takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli. Semantic analysis also reveals that the diction and expressions in the song construct meanings related to self-reflection, self-acceptance, resilience, and hope. Thus, Evaluasi functions not only as a musical work, but also as a medium that represents psychological recovery and spiritual transformation.

Abstract

Political dynasties have become a persistent phenomenon in Indonesia’s post-reform political system. Previous studies generally focus on their impact on democracy, nepotism, political oligarchy, and abuse of power. However, limited attention has been given to examining political dynasties from the perspective of the principle of equal opportunity in public office, which constitutes an essential element of both the rule of law and constitutional democracy. This study aims to analyze the regulation of political rights and the principle of equal opportunity within Indonesia’s constitutional system, examine the influence of political dynasties on equal access to public office, and formulate a legal framework capable of ensuring equal opportunity without infringing upon citizens’ constitutional right to be elected. The findings indicate that political dynasties are not formally inconsistent with the Constitution or procedural democracy because they emerge through legitimate electoral processes and constitute part of citizens’ constitutional right to run for public office, as guaranteed by the 1945 Constitution and affirmed in Constitutional Court Decision Number 33/PUU-XIII/2015. Nevertheless, from the perspectives of equal opportunity and political equality, political dynasties may create unequal political opportunities through privileged access to political resources, networks of power, political party support, and social and economic capital unavailable to ordinary citizens. Such conditions may reduce the quality of political competition and limit equal access to public office.

Abstract

This research explores the sociolinguistic and aesthetic paradigm shift in Arabic literature during the Apostolic period of Prophet Muhammad SAW (7th century CE), marking the transition from Jahiliyyah tribal oral traditions to centralized Islamic monotheism. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method with a stylistic (uslub) approach, the study deconstructs ten core verses of Hassan bin Thabit’s monumental poem, Burikta Ya Qabra Ar-Rasuli. The primary analytical focus lies on Thabit’s rhetorical sophistication—including alliteration, metaphor, personification, and silepsis—in mediating profound grief over the passing of Prophet Muhammad SAW. Findings indicate that the Apostolic period did not erase past poetic traditions but rather revolutionized their essence and function. Literature was transformed from an instrument of tribal fanaticism (ta’asub) into a medium for social, moral, and political transformation fundamental to state-building in Medina. Furthermore, the Ijaz al-Qur'an served as a linguistic anchor that standardized Classical Arabic (Fusha), providing a new rhetorical framework for poets such as Hassan bin Thabit. This study concludes that the literary transformation of this period laid the eternal foundation for all future global Arabic literary developments .
