Abstract

The problem in this study is the low critical thinking ability of students. The goal is to improve students' critical thinking skills in economics by implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model assisted by jellyfish hunting media on students' critical thinking skills in economics subjects in grade XI of SMAN 1 CIAMIS. The method used was quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design research. The population in this study is classes XI-5 to XI-12. The research sample used was class XI-8 as an experimental class and XI-9 as a control class with a non-probability sampling technique in the form of purposive sampling. Based on the results of the study, it was explained that there was a significant difference in the improvement of students' critical thinking skills by using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model assisted by jellyfish hunting media, where the average postest score was superior compared to the average postest using the conventional learning model in the control class, thus it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning learning model (PBL) with the help of jellyfish hunting media has an effect on students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The problem addressed in this study was the low level of students’ problem-solving ability. This study aimed to improve students’ problem-solving ability in Economics through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Grade X-E of SMA Negeri 7 Tasikmalaya. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The population consisted of all Grade X-E students of SMA Negeri 7 Tasikmalaya in the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample comprised Class X-E7 as the experimental group and Class X-E11 as the control group, selected through purposive sampling. The results revealed an improvement in students’ problem-solving ability in both groups. The Independent Samples t-Test showed a significance value of 0.014 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference in problem-solving ability between the experimental and control groups. The N-Gain score of the experimental group was 0.71, categorized as high, while the control group obtained a score of 0.66, categorized as moderate. Furthermore, the effect size value of 0.47 indicated a moderate effect. Therefore, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model was found to be more effective than conventional learning in improving students’ problem-solving ability in Economics.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low level of financial literacy in encouraging the effective utilization of Family Hope Program (PKH) funds and strengthening the economic resilience of beneficiary families in Purbaratu District, Tasikmalaya City. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation with three primary informants of PKH beneficiary families and supporting informants, namely one PKH Facilitator and three government agencies. The results of the study indicate that the level of financial literacy of beneficiary families still varies, especially in aspects of financial planning, expenditure management, and savings habits. Utilization of PKH funds is generally focused on meeting education, health, and basic household needs. Financial literacy plays an important role in helping families manage assistance funds more effectively, thereby strengthening family economic resilience. However, there are still obstacles such as low income, minimal understanding of financial management, and consumptive behavior that affect the effectiveness of PKH fund utilization.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the Benteng Vredeburg as an educational tourism destination that supports history learning. Education plays a crucial role in shaping historical awareness and national identity, yet history learning is often considered less engaging because it is dominated by theoretical explanations. Museums offer an alternative learning environment by providing direct interaction with historical objects and contextual experiences. This research aims to analyze how the Vredeburg Fortress Museum functions as a learning resource and how its facilities contribute to contextual and experiential learning. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving museum managers, visitors, and participants in educational programs. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results show that the museum has transformed from a colonial military fortress into an educational museum with significant historical and pedagogical value. The museum provides various learning media, including dioramas, artifacts, and interactive digital technologies that enhance visitor engagement. These features support contextual learning by connecting theoretical knowledge with real experiences. Therefore, the museum effectively supports meaningful history learning and strengthens historical awareness among visitors.

Abstract

Reading literacy culture in elementary schools is one of the fundamental foundations for shaping students' critical thinking skills, language competence, and learning achievements. This study aims to describe and analyze the efforts to strengthen students' reading literacy culture in Bahasa Indonesia learning at SD Cibeunteur. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with classroom teachers and the school principal, non-participatory classroom observation, and documentation study of school literacy programs and learning plans. The findings reveal that SD Cibeunteur has implemented various strategic efforts, including the Fifteen Minutes Reading program conducted before learning activities, the development of a literacy corner in each classroom, the use of diverse and contextually relevant reading materials, as well as reading comprehension activities integrated into Bahasa Indonesia learning. Teachers play a central role as reading motivation models and facilitators in cultivating positive reading habits among students. However, challenges remain, including students' limited reading interest, insufficient availability of reading materials, and the lack of parental involvement in fostering a reading culture at home. These findings underscore the need for holistic and sustainable collaboration among teachers, parents, and school institutions to effectively strengthen reading literacy culture in elementary education.

Abstract

Transformative learning is an adult learning approach that emphasizes profound changes in how individuals understand themselves, their experiences, and their social environment. This process involves not only the acquisition of knowledge but also changes in perspectives, identity, and critical consciousness. Although transformative learning has been widely discussed in the literature, studies integrating the psychological mechanisms underlying the transformation process remain limited. This study aims to synthesize empirical and theoretical findings regarding the psychological mechanisms of transformative learning leading to critical consciousness among adults. A literature review method was employed by examining scientific publications retrieved from Google Scholar and ResearchGate between 2021 and 2025. The selection process focused on studies addressing transformative learning, disorienting dilemmas, cognitive dissonance, critical reflection, cognitive schema restructuring, identity transformation, and critical consciousness. The findings indicate that transformative learning occurs through an interconnected sequence of processes beginning with cognitive dissonance triggered by experiences that challenge existing assumptions. This is followed by critical reflection, which facilitates cognitive schema restructuring and perspective transformation, ultimately contributing to identity transformation and the development of critical consciousness. In addition to cognitive factors, emotional experiences were found to play an important role in encouraging reflection and the construction of new meanings. These findings suggest that transformative learning is a multidimensional process involving the interaction of cognitive, emotional, social, and identity-related dimensions. The study highlights the importance of designing adult learning experiences that encourage critical reflection, foster adaptive identity development, and strengthen critical consciousness in responding to personal and societal changes.
