Abstract

The main issue raised in this study is how the meanings of words in Imam Syafi'i's poem Ilaika contribute to forming a profound aesthetic and religious message. This study aims to analyze the lexical and grammatical meanings contained in Imam Syafi'i's poem Ilaika. The poem Ilaika is a classic Arabic literary work with high aesthetic and religious value. Through semantic analysis, it is hoped that the deeper meanings contained in each word and sentence structure in the poem can be revealed. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data analyzed is the text of the poem Ilaika. Data collection techniques were carried out through literature study and text analysis. Data analysis was carried out by identifying keywords, examining their lexical meanings, and analyzing the grammatical structure of the sentences. The theory used in this study is semantic theory, specifically lexical and grammatical semantics. Lexical semantics relates to the meaning of words individually, while grammatical semantics relates to the meaning formed from the relationship between words in a sentence. Based on the analysis presented, it can be found that each stanza in Imam Syafi'i's ilaika poem has two meanings, namely lexical meaning and grammatical meaning. There are three types of words that were found, namely nouns, verbs, and adjectives. The contribution of this research is to provide a more comprehensive understanding of Imam Syafi'i's poetry from a linguistic perspective.

Abstract

The teaching of Arabic grammar (nahwu) often poses challenges for students due to its abstract rules and memorization demands, which frequently result in low levels of comprehension and achievement. This study aims to address these challenges by examining the effectiveness of the Mumtaz Method in enhancing students’ understanding of nahwu. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) framework to systematically reflect upon and improve classroom practices based on iterative observations and evaluations. The participants were students of class C2 at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Idadiyah Campus III Putri DDI Mangkoso, Soppeng Riaja District, Barru Regency. The Mumtaz Method, which adapts familiar melodies such as religious and children’s songs into learning media, was applied to facilitate the memorization and internalization of Arabic grammatical structures. The study was carried out over two cycles, following the stages of pre-cycle (initial reflection), Cycle I, and Cycle II. The findings demonstrated a notable improvement in students’ comprehension of nahwu. The average score increased from 61.90 with a completion rate of 33% at the pre-cycle stage to 68.09 with 52% completion in Cycle I, and further to 77.38 with a 96% completion rate in Cycle II. These results confirm the effectiveness of the Mumtaz Method in improving Arabic syntax learning. The study contributes to applied linguistics and language pedagogy by offering an innovative, culturally relevant strategy to support grammar acquisition in young learners.

Abstract

rauma resulting from violence often cannot be expressed directly in literary texts but instead emerges symbolically, hidden beneath the narrative. Nevertheless, through literature, Palestinian writers strive to record histories that are often overlooked by official narratives. This study aims to uncover the representation of trauma in Adania Shibli’s novel Tafṣīl Ṡānawī through A.J. Greimas’s narrative semiotics. The novel serves as a literary representation that reveals Zionist violence and its accompanying trauma within the context of Israel’s occupation of Palestine. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method with textual documentation, this research analyzes the actantial structure, spatial and temporal isotopies, and the inner structure through the semiotic square. The findings indicate that trauma in the novel is not only explicitly narrated but also symbolically manifested through spatial and temporal tensions and the interplay of actants within the story. Violence, the erasure of traces of violence, resistance, and the silencing of the narrator are represented within interlocking semiotic relations. This study demonstrates that trauma in the text is structural and transgenerational, functioning as a symbolic field of resistance against power exercised through cultural violence. The findings further suggest that literary works can function as archives of collective memory, open critical spaces for interpreting historical wounds, and underscore the importance of semiotic perspectives in reconstructing trauma that is not explicitly depicted in modern Arabic literature.

Abstract

The Suroan tradition in Suka Jadi Village, Perbaungan Subdistrict, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra, represents a living manifestation of the living hadith that remains preserved within the community. This phenomenon is worth studying because, in addition to serving as a religious ritual, it embodies social and cultural values that bind community life. This study aims to describe and analyze the practice of the Suroan tradition as an embodiment of the Prophet’s hadith in daily life. A qualitative approach with a field research design was employed. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with religious leaders, ustadz, and local residents, while secondary data were sourced from authenticated hadith texts (takhrij) and scholarly literature, including journals, books, theses, dissertations, and conference proceedings. Data analysis involved reduction, descriptive presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity testing through comparison between field findings and authentic hadiths. The findings reveal that the Suroan tradition is not merely a cultural celebration but also contains profound spiritual and social dimensions. Practices such as communal prayers, fasting, religious sermons, charity, and mutual cooperation reflect gratitude to Allah, strengthen communal bonds (ukhuwah), and represent the collective application of Islamic teachings. This tradition also serves as a medium for transmitting religious and social values within the framework of local wisdom. The contribution of this study lies in revealing the role of local traditions as a medium for internalizing hadith teachings and fostering social harmony, thereby enriching living hadith studies in Indonesia.

Abstract

he film Dari Gelombang Istana Pasir by Matty Brown through a literary psychology approach using Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. The inner conflict is analyzed based on Maslow's five basic needs, namely physiological needs, security, love and belonging, self-esteem, and self-actualization. The method used is descriptive qualitative with listening and recording techniques, as well as content analysis of scenes and dialogues that show the inner dynamics of the characters. The results show that the inner conflict experienced by Jana arises from the pressure of extreme situations faced, such as limited basic needs, insecurity, alienation, loss of appreciation, to a strong desire to express human values through real action. This inner conflict shows how the character struggles between fulfilling personal needs and facing a limiting reality, thus enriching the understanding of character depth and psychological dynamics in film works. This research is expected to contribute to the study of literary psychology, especially in understanding the representation of characters' inner conflicts in the medium of film as a reflection of human life.

Abstract

The speaking ability (Maharah al-Kalam) of students at State Islamic Senior High School 3 Makassar remains relatively low, primarily due to limited innovation in teaching methods and the minimal active participation of learners in classroom activities. This study aims to examine the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) as an alternative instructional model to address these challenges and enhance students’ proficiency in Arabic speaking skills. Employing a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, the study involved 31 students of class X.6 as research participants. Data collection instruments included classroom observations, teacher and student interviews, and an oral performance test consisting of five questions administered both at the beginning and end of the cycles. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ Arabic speaking ability across the two research cycles. The average score increased from 62.35% in the pre-cycle to 74.90% in cycle I, and further improved to 93.12% in cycle II. These results demonstrate that PBL not only promotes active participation and collaborative learning but also significantly enhances oral proficiency in Arabic. The study contributes to the field of Arabic language pedagogy by providing empirical evidence of the effectiveness of PBL in improving Maharah al-Kalam within Islamic senior high school contexts.

Abstract

The background of this study is the various challenges in Arabic language learning at MTs Ma'ariful Ulum Banyuasin, such as low teaching effectiveness, limited facilities, and minimal use of digital technology in the teaching and learning process. These problems require a managerial and pedagogical approach that can improve the quality of learning in a sustainable manner. This study aims to describe the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) in Arabic language learning at the madrasah. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and the head of the madrasah, as well as documentation of teaching tools and learning journals. The results of the study show that TQM principles have been thoroughly internalized in three main aspects of learning, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. At the planning stage, teachers and madrasah principals conduct collaborative evaluations and analyze student needs to develop relevant teaching tools. In practice, teachers implement active, communicative, and contextual learning, and adapt methods and media to students' learning styles. Formative and summative evaluations are conducted using authentic instruments, portfolios, and learning journals as a basis for decision making. In addition, reflective practices through internal MGMPs, student learning satisfaction surveys, and appreciation for teacher innovation demonstrate the continuous strengthening of a culture of quality. Despite constraints such as limited facilities and digitization, the implementation of TQM has proven to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of Arabic language learning. These findings confirm that TQM can be effectively applied not only at the managerial level but also directly in the classroom.

Abstract

his study investigates the implementation of the Independent Curriculum (Manhaj al-Ta’allum al-Istiqlaali) in Arabic language teaching for Grade 10 students at Al-Washliyah Islamic Senior High School in Medan. The background of the problem lies in the need for a more flexible and student-centered approach to Arabic learning, given that traditional models often limit students’ active participation and contextual understanding. The main objective of this research is to analyze how the Independent Curriculum is applied in the classroom and to evaluate its impact on both teaching practices and student learning outcomes. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews with Arabic teachers, classroom observations, and documentation analysis. The findings reveal that the Independent Curriculum offers broad flexibility for teachers and students to design contextual, participatory, and interactive learning activities. Teachers take the role of facilitators who guide the learning process, while students are encouraged to actively select topics and tasks that match their interests and learning styles. This shift has contributed to significant improvements in students’ Arabic language proficiency, as well as the development of independent, critical, and reflective learning attitudes. Nevertheless, the study also identifies several challenges, including insufficient digital infrastructure, limited availability of learning resources, and the need for more comprehensive teacher training in curriculum implementation. Overall, this research contributes to the academic discourse on Arabic language pedagogy by demonstrating the potential of the Independent Curriculum to enhance both linguistic competence and learner autonomy. It also provides practical insights for educators, policymakers, and curriculum developers seeking to improve the effectiveness of Arabic language education in Indonesian Islamic schools

Abstract

This study investigates the difficulties faced by junior high school students in developing maharah kitabah (writing skills) within Arabic language learning, focusing on errors from the perspective of imla’ (Arabic orthography). The problem arises from students’ limited exposure to Arabic in their previous learning environments, which impacts their ability to write correctly and fluently. Common challenges identified include difficulties in mastering Arabic letters, vocabulary limitations, grammatical errors, and incorrect connections between letters. To address these issues, effective learning strategies and environmental support—particularly from parents—are crucial. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach consisting of four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The participants were students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Taswirul Afkar Surabaya. The findings indicate that the majority of students demonstrate fairly good writing proficiency; however, a small proportion still struggle with specific imla’ aspects, particularly in writing the hamzah and in adding or omitting letters unintentionally. The study contributes to understanding the relationship between imla’ mastery and Arabic writing performance, emphasizing the importance of integrating orthographic awareness in Arabic writing instruction. These insights can guide educators in designing more effective pedagogical approaches to improve maharah kitabah among learners of Arabic at the junior high school level.

Abstract

Forgiveness is a fundamental moral trait that plays a vital role in shaping harmonious human relationships, fostering peace, and preventing conflict. However, in the context of student life, social interactions are often challenged by misunderstandings and disputes, making forgiveness an essential value to explore. This study aims to examine the concept of forgiveness as reflected in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad, its practical application in the social interactions of students at UIN North Sumatra, and the influence of mutual forgiveness on the harmony of the campus social environment. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews, documentation, and in-depth analysis. The findings reveal that the practice of forgiveness significantly contributes to the quality of students’ relationships, providing emotional relief, minimizing disputes that may otherwise damage friendships, and fostering a more positive mindset. Moreover, the internalization of forgiveness values strengthens social cohesion and nurtures a peaceful and collaborative academic atmosphere. The study concludes that forgiveness, as derived from prophetic traditions, has been meaningfully integrated into student life at UIN North Sumatra, thereby enhancing interpersonal harmony and supporting the creation of a conducive educational environment. This research contributes to understanding how Islamic ethical values can be practically implemented in modern academic contexts.
